Hi everyone! What grade (out of 10) would you give this video?
1 I guess?
I understand that the current trend is to start clips with a teaser of a big moment from the clip to keep people interested, and I get that those work for most types of videos. But a movie scenes channel? People binge watch like 30 of these at a time. This is literally the one type of video that format doesn't work on.
If it becomes a habit I cannot imagine i would continue to watch this channel.
Zero, you totally changed the sequence of events, unsubscribed.

Tom Hanks took a damn 8mm to the chest and was still able to raise his sidearm and kept firing. What a boss
And Superman can really fly... It's a movie!

i like how for a second he thought that bullet actually blew up the tank was probably like "that worked tf?"
😮😅😊
Some of the tanks of the time period had an external gas container, it MIGHT have worked and he just thought it was the plane.
That was a piece of the story, symbolism.
A P51 blew the tank. Also known as tankbusters.
Years and years ago, back after this movie came out, I was playing battlefield 1942 on the pc. It was a desert level, and i was out in the open. A german tank came slowly rolling over a sand dune, and i was out of ammo. No grenades, no mines, nothing. I knew i was dead, so i just went prone and started firing at it with my little pistol while it slowly started to take aim and blow me to hell. Then it suddenly blew up much like this scene.
I was like, wtf and also like this scene, suddenly a plane by flew overhead, he dive bombed the thing saving me without knowing.
I wish game capture was a thing back then because i will always remember that moment. Sadly, it will only be a memory with no way to prove it happened. But it was still the most epic moment I ever had in that game.
The last 2 minutes of this movie at the Cemetry are heart wrenching. So many brave men...
And so many cemeteries, too.
Especially that blonde girl
I always found it interesting that, besides Ryan, Upham(the least skilled in combat) and Private Reiben(who almost deserted) were the ones who survived from the company.

It goes to show that heroics will get you killed. The guys who do only what's required of them are the ones who survive.

@@jayllow01 In the scene where they finally find Ryan, he and two others are hidden and take down a German halftrack. After all the enemies are dead, their commander yells "101st, coming out!" They were ahead of Miller's crew because they parachuted in.

Corporal Umpham was the highest ranking American on that bridge after Captain died. For about ten minutes.
And he got that rank being a desk jockey.
@@artlover1477 Yeah and he kinda went to Ranger school in a fast track manner by being on that team.
@@maulrat588 not even close, he got a taste of first combat experience, while you can see how calmly the Rangers handle the situation, after being in the war for a while. I gotta say, despite understanding the character of Upham, being more intellectual and academic than martial myself, I still despise his decision to let the POWs run away. He learned nothing. He just overcame his personal fear for his life to settle one personal beef with his own decision to let go a man who could potentially harm his comrades. Sure, if he did not shoot the captain, someone else would, but at that situation, Upham saw what he himself caused with his soft heart. And right after putting things in order, he fvcks up again.

Open and very honest admission here- for many years, I avoided re watching this iconic film.
The final scenes where the inept, scared typographer allows his fear to prevent him from supplying his mates with ammo? Ugh..too much for me to watch.

I managed to catch a cinema screening of this on the 75th anniversary of D-Day. To see it how it was originally intended was something special, and you realise why it received the Oscars it did. I was only 15 when this came out, so far too young to really grasp what I was watching.
such an amazing a horribly terrifying realistic movie......one of Hanks best
I am not sure films about war can really ultimately be realistic. I think they can feel realistic and abstract and convey some essences. But If they were (or could be) realistic I suspect people would mainly be confused and traumatised by watching them.
realistic... lmao
@@vasya_dangersex as far as war movie goes, this is up there if not the most realistic. Yes there are details wrong but it was going for the feeling you nerd
@examplenameyoutube Yes it’s realistic that that sometimes happens. Killing a prisoner face to face is not a simple thing to everyone all the time. But in this movie it’s a certain narrative device as well
realistic?handgun, ok, you mean the rocket from fighter, that's impossible to penetrate tiger armor, 21th century missile?
It's an excellent film that truly portrays the horrors of war in a very realistic way. I think it's like a monument to a war movie.
This is not the only such film, Spielberg himself drew inspiration from the Russian film “I am a Russian Soldier” for realism, where he repeated some scenes literally frame by frame.
In reality….I couldn’t fathom being in war…God Bless the ones that did…❤ and I say that wholeheartedly ❤
Thank you Tom Hanks for your acting.
4:03 - Finally he did something right.
Not before that same German shot another soldier and the captain down. By this point, I just don't care what Upham did already
I watched this movie like 10 times and it was never annoying love it
03:48 that could have played out very differently had the left german decided to shoot
the germans had probably understood that they'd lost at that point, and were willing to be taken as a prisoner of war
the Gzerman on the side could easily wipe out the dork, then next second the bald Gzerman laughs...
@@alphasma That's right, the German on the left was confused by the lost battle and did not know how best to act, where he saw his comrade-in-arms, who began to surrender, also laid down his weapon.
At the end of the war near Berlin, after the surrender, there was a real story when, in the fog, a group of Germans on the road collided with two Soviet soldiers in a car, where they first grabbed their weapons, but then surrendered. Then two Soviet soldiers came to the unit and more than fifty Germans followed them.
Perhaps he was caught at the exact moment when he was either out of bullets in his rifle or needed to cycle the bolt. Even the latter would be risky to do in front of an agitated enemy soldier.
The video clip should added a couple of more minutes to show the dying Captian telling Private Ryan to 'earn it'.
Makes my blood boil seeing the rookie right behind all those krauts able to kill them but instead allowing them to gun down the people who would die to save his life.
Ikr!!😡
Ryan could not find a cure for cancer, but he became an astronout and flew to Mars.
Upham pissed the hell out of me, I don’t care his situation or what he’s supposed to represent, no one should ever leave a man behind like the way he did!
Agreed all the way!
@Oldie But Goodie we've also seen that these situations usually lead to some form of stress, or post traumatic stress disorder in either temporary form or long term. War is hell and why we continue to keep killing each other instead of seeking peace and letting politicians decide war or peace is just stupid. the military industrial complex is real and it legit is running a lot of these mini wars and scrimmages and it's all for profit.

You left out the best line of the whole damned movie! "They're P-51s, Sir. Tank busters." Captain Miller: "Angels on our shoulders..."
I agree, this clip is not edited very well. oh well.
Cpt Miller wasn't a very good leader. Picking Upham with no front line experience created a weakest link, fighting the german military with such a small squad when his only mission was to find Ryan. In war, an officer's duty is first to stay alive, then keep your squad alive, then all that honor, country, duty bs comes later.

Tom Hanks got that last stand perk 😁
Yes he did. Never thought of it like that. Nice work.
I like when they are waiting for the Germans and then you hear the tanks clanking now that is scary.
accurate as hell, and I love that a bomb dropping plane kills the tank because ww2 was the beginning of the winds of change from land power to air and sea power via plane and aircraft carriers, battleships are now obsolete due to how easy a torpedo, or harpoon or anti-ship missile can hit them now.
I read an interview from a WW2 veteran who was in combat. He said SPR was very realistic to a point; he remembered the fear of hearing a 50 caliber knowing in his gut there was nothing you could hide behind that it could not penetrate.
2:02 Where the hell are you going?

This is a monumental movie, one of the best ever shot, but this just occurred to me and I’m suddenly wondering why it never did before…
This movie was about capturing the burden that Private Ryan carried throughout his whole life. I can’t imagine having to go through life knowing so many men gave their own life to ensure that YOU returned home safely. I can’t believe I didn’t see it until now. I’d be haunted by that burden.
you have grown and become wiser to life
At the end of the movie elder Ryan came to a realization of such a thing…”Tell me I lived a good life”…Damn 🥹…his children may never know who that captain really was and the simple fact if it hadn’t been for brave, sacrificial men like that they would not exist…

One of the finest pictures ever made and easily top 10 war movies, up there with BOB (TV Series), Thin Red Line, Stalingrad, Come And See, Platoon etc.
The Thin Red Line changed my life on a spiritual level. Such a heavenly film. No wonder Jim Caviezel was cast as Jesus a few years later.
@@DestinyAwaits19 I agree, Thin Red Line is a transcendent film. But also it should get a lot more credit for its realistic depiction of small arms combat. The assault on the Japanese machine gun bunker, led by Cusack's character, is as gripping as any such scene put to film. also, Nick Nolte gives monster performance as Col Tall.
@@ked1224 Agreed. I've also come to realize it's not just heavenly but masterfully filmed in terms of combat.
And Enemy at the Gate
Hacksaw ridge has to be up there. That was based on true events and even had to be downplayed to make Desmond doss seem more believable. Imagine being so heroic that even a film was like we can't add that in no one would believe that.

"someone you dont know tells you to kill someone you dont know" tragedy of war
The producers of this movie got this scene correctly. Tom Hanks after being shot is leaning up against and early model BMW German motorcycle. It has telescopic forks but the rear suspension is of the old plunger shock absorbers. I recognised that bike quickly because I used to own one.
I also don't like when Upham let the POWs go, but the lesson to be learned is that he just knew that in war there are no winners, he knew that the POWs were there following orders, like he and everyone on his side was, everyone is in war to kill. but in that moment killing more people wouldn't bring anyone back to life, in this situation you have to realize when you're killing for orders from killing for personal satisfation, (soldier/murderer)
Miller said early in the movie "with every man I kill farther away from home I feel" So even if you kill as a soldier it eventually starts to make you feel like a murderer
3:30 that plane seemed supernaturally fast

3:20 Marion McClure ❤
What I enjoy about this last stand is Reiben, despite all his insubordination earlier to his Captain and Sergeant, he showed his class throughout the battle; volunteering to meet the Germans head on in the rabbit and volunteering to take out the 20mm alone which surprised his Captain, and being there laying down fire at the end and helping his Sergeant to load the bazooka. He never once shirked his responsibility when it came time to fight.

I disagree only in that I found Dunkirk just a tad better and also more historically accurate. Not to mention speilberg may have made a lot of blockbusters, this one feels like a vanity project he wanted to make. The sniper is easily my favorite character, and the depiction of one dude being a coward for the entire movie is excellent writing and very true to human nature. We can all puff our chest and say oh no I wouldn't run, but fight or flight is damn powerful and you'll be surprised which one you pick.
@@realityitis4 I liked Dunkirk. At the very least, the opening scene of SPR is the most historically accurate depiction of D Day, many WW2 veterans who were there have said this
@@realityitis4 I loved Dunkirk and I loved how Nolan used his classic time confusing characteristic to make us feel anxiety. Zimmer’s score played a vital part in this. I also liked the fact you could not see the enemy made it even scarier. What I didn’t like was the lack of realism when it comes to kills. Nolan characteristically avoids showing excessive violence in his films in order to get more family favoured rating since he wants his films to viewed by as many as possible. Although I don’t mind about his view and its implementation on most of his films, in this one I found it unjustified and the one that killed kind of the experience and immersion for me. I am not expecting blood Bath in the style of SPR, BOB or Hackshaw Ridge but when you have a Stukas bombing run for eg and the aftermath is a few guys lying around on the beach without a scratch like they’re sleeping it’s hard for me to take the situation seriously. Other than that a great film. Also loved 1917. But I personally wouldn’t even dare to put them on par with SPR let alone ahead of it.
