You know it’s kind of bizarre. Only 2 people in the Fallout apocalypse have been in space(still alive): Sophia Daguerre & the Lone Wanderer(mainly talking about people who’ve gotten into a suit and walked out there). Mothership zeta is awesome. Going out in space and fighting aliens is completely amazing(firing the spaceship laser was the cherry on top for me). Sophia has a cool story but the repetitive quests were dull. It would’ve been fun to actually go out in space and rescue her. I hope we get more space content in the next Fallout.

Space is definitely an under-explored area in Fallout canon. Not even the UFO/Alien stuff, I find the Cold War/ Human Spaceflight element *far* more interesting.

Rather ironically, the Virgo 2 lander looks as though it was inspired by the "LK" (lunar craft), a Russian counterpart to the American "LM" (lunar module) along with the N1-L3 rocket. The Soviet effort to land on the moon is quite interesting if you look into it.
For pre-war lore I thought it be great to to have a start like fallout 4 before the war but you're at the moon base, 2 weeks left before returning home. You find out the Chinese set up an outpost on the edge of the dark of the moon. As you prepare to assault the outpost all comms and power go out suddenly. the Zetans attack you and the Chinese. The American and Chinese survivors flee back to the US moon base and work together to repair comms. You lead a strike team against the zetans only to deduce they are trying to repair their ship to take out our orbital alert station and alert the zetan carrier to commence invasion, you sneak a nuke aboard and blow the scout zetan ship. The comms are finally restored in time for the retaliation from the Zetans who manage to fire off a nuke moments before you break into the control room. The American and Chinese survivors go to the main atrium and view earth being engulfed in nuclear fire all the while listening to the world go silent. The next day you receive a radio burst transmission that your family were granted access into a vault but could not safely travel to it and are held up in a radio satellite array. You and your survivors work together to repair the escape pods and make your way back to Earth and the game begins!
it’s so funny to describe the space race, part of the cold war and concurrent with sino-soviet border conflicts, as a friendly competition between those three powers
My only disappointment is how this video seems to completely ignore Kovac-Muldoon. A follow up to that is I wonder if the Kovac-Muldoon is the same orbital platform from Fallout 3.
I am pretty confident the "weapon" they are referring to in the valiant 1 documents is just the Archimedes 2 orbital strike weapon seen in Fallout new vegas
There's a decent chance that project. Angel piss was actually a reimagining of the very real project Star wars where they intended to have satellites with lasers that could blow missiles out of the air defending against nuclear threats and whatnot
I think that maybe the valiant 1 was working on a mass relay, like the one the institute used This is mainly because he couldn't distinguish between it being a weapon or a communication device And literally just because it's called a space beam and I like star trek It would definitely be within prewar America's preview to try something like that
The Russians killed 6 dogs in their space program, this is important to mention. The 2 that got to space died there painfully and the other involved explosions 1 a self destruct.
No Archimedes is focusing the sun using the weapon you get off of the boy from freeside, maybe the space beam was multiple beams being used or something totally different like a kem strike who knows Bethesda need to add more space content either to FO76 or the upcoming game.
Not "shot down" - the station in the Crater used up its maneuvering fuel avoiding the Zetan mothership, a fact certain elements of the US government were desperate to hide (per notes found at NIRA), while Daguerre's craft was recalled to Earth as described in the video.
The fact it took 12 minutes to orbit the Earth is definitely bonkers and calls into question the US claiming he was the first person to orbit. At minimum it would take 90 minutes so I am 100% sure China and the Soviets were right about the flight. Also calls into question everything else they say as well considering their lunar lander doesn't even have a ladder to ascend to the surface.
I'm interested in knowing your ideas if a settlement building mechanic would be built into Fallout 3 or new Vegas; What locations would you believe to be ideal.

You realise cameras can auto pan right? It's literally a motor set to engage at a certain point. Also, you're wrong, the camera on the moon *was* able to be controlled from the Earth to pan upwards but they realised that the latency (which was around 2-3 seconds not 8-10) would be too much so it was simply pre-programmed to tilt up based on the lift off sequence and the astronauts worked to a planned time of departure. With Apollo 15 the automation failed and yes, just recorded the lift off and nothing else and they actually messed up on Apollo 16 as the buggy with the camera on was too close so it didn't capture it. Apollo 17 they did actually use the remote command based on a pre-planned sequence of known time, Ed Fendell operated it and started the sequence at T minus 3 seconds knowing it would take a few seconds to fire and start lifting so it starts tracking up 2-3 seconds after the lift off and tracked it perfectly
