Thank you so much ❤for your videos. It inspired me… I’m from Salt Lake City Utah but currently in LA for a few days getting my new prosthetic left ear needed from birth 65 years ago. I have a wonderful angioplasty artist constructing my new left ear. I’m excited to see the final result on Thursday. I will have my update on result. Thanks again for making others aware since there are so many people with this issue. I only wish I had this as a child growing up.❤
Great story. I can really relate to the staring. Unilateral grade 3 here. I didn't have surgery but always wondered if I would be better off or worse if I had some form of surgery. Sometimes I feel I should go for surgery just to see what changes. Though I do feel that my Microtia helped weed out the idiots in my social circles. Saying that though, I can count with my hand the number of people who were actually d*£#s about it and they were mostly strangers.
Thank you for subscribing! I debated getting rib grafts or prosthetics. When I consulted the doctors, they said that an ear prosthetic would have the higher opportunity to mimic the human ear. So far, the prosthetics have worked well! I think you're so spot on that microtia can help filter out the people you don't need in your life. Certainly, those who don't want to be there with us won't get to hear more awesome stories from us microtians!
Thanks for sharing your story. I almost got the prosthetic ears but my insurance wouldn't pay. I had to do something so I could wear my eye glasses with the new baha. the eyeglass strap would move when I would turn my head. I ended up going with the medpor ear reconstruction earlier this year.. Have you heard about medpor implants? they go right under the skin and tissues.
Thanks for following! Wearing glasses is an ongoing challenge for me. They don't really sit on top of my prosthetics instead they sit on top of the Baha which hurts from wearing. I never did go for the medpor reconstruction but instead opted for vista fix!
@@LetThereBeEars Ah makes sense. I have grade 1-2 but to be honest the associated aural atresia + resulting cholesteatoma has been more of an issue for me given the dead skin cells in the closed off middle ear space etc have nowhere to go and just expand over years. Hopefully now I had my middle ear space obliterated/filled, it won't return again! My word of advice to anyone with microtia + aural atresia is to watch out for symptoms of cholesteatoma as there's a greater risk of it developing.

@@LetThereBeEars With wearing the eyeglasses on the baha did that make it squeal? mine did especially when I turned my head
Thanks for video. By "peanut sized ears" do you mean grade 4 microtia?
You bet. That's right! I had grade 3 microtia. Grade 4 is the complete absence of an outer ear

Ever looked into getting "costume ears" to mount for fun? I'm thinking very pointy elf ears. 😀
I'll need to look at that! When I was younger, people mistaken my ears for elf ear props 🤦♂️
