Thank you! Well, I can hear my husband and kids talking to me, so that's amazing! I could actually hear the garbage men talking outside this morning, and they were at the bottom of our road! 😂 I couldn't even hear the truck most weeks, let alone someone outside talking! I hear the cats taking little steps on the wood floors. I used to be able to hear these things, but haven't in a few years (except during the few weeks I had my trial last year), so it's nice!
@@MrsBrit1 Are they telling you how cool you are with the BAHA 6? I'm so excited for your new adventures. Next time, you'll start hearing a conversation from the garbage men about what you bought! I'm so happy for you and look forward to hearing, ha, no pun intended, more about your adventures.
Thank you for following! Infections happen and the severity depends on the person. Some have higher tolerance while some have less. And it also depends on the body as well. Sending your son all the best wishes! 🎉
I agree. It depends on how severe. I’m getting a prosthetic that won’t require an anchor. Simply slips on my small ear with some daily water soluble adhesive. Knowing what I know now I wish I had them as a child growing up. Even if an anchor was surgically implanted.
Hi, I’m having second thoughts of prosthetic ear. I play lots of sports especially rugby, do they come off easily or is it attached very strongly also what about heavy earrings 😊
Thanks for subscribing and stopping by! Weeks ear prosthetics while playing rugby or other high contact sport is not recommended. I have the magnets and previously gold bars. They do come off at impact or even sometimes when pulling my shirt over my head. I've worn earrings before and it's fine. But I recommend not wearing it while playing rugby. You'll spend more time picking it up and hoping your teammates don't step on them..
I had my bilateral prostheses done by Dr. Baron from Virginia. For a long time, I was disappointed with them because they were adhesively attached & caused me more anxiety than they're worth worrying that they'd fall off anytime. Where'd you get the magnetic attachments, my friend?
I got them through a plastic surgeon though a referral from an anaplastologist in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada! He doesn't work here anymore but the surgery is called Vista fix
Hi! Thanks for stopping by. I had a good friend who's fluent in Spanish translate this for me. I hope one day I have enough resources to make the videos available in different languages! 🎉
Thanks for making this video. I have prosthesis but need to use glue. I'm thinking to switching to magnetic ones. I already have helix part of ear, can abutment be fixed on the cartilage or do I need existing ears get removed and make flat surface? Second is how long did it took from abutment fixation & healing? Thanks 😊
Great question! The surgery is called vistafix. It took about 2-3 months before the anaplastogist could actually do work on it. The area is tender after the surgery and I had a big bandaid on for a week before I could shower. The doctors I anticipate will suggest remove the existing ears for a flat surface. But that depends on the position and size. If your ear is tiny and is positioned where the earlobe would be, it's possible they might not ask you to remove it ;)
@@LetThereBeEars thanks for answering my question 😊 my ear is cup shaped, had bilateral burns at young age. I'm left with all parts of ear except outer part. I've been using adhesive based prosthesis but it's so much of discomfort, so thinking of switching to magnetic ones and wonder if I could get abutments inserted on to cartilage directly.
Hi, I have 2 prothetics but I'm struggling using an special glue to stick them to my skin. The glue, which I think is the walker tape glue (they won't tell me what glue is), is not cheap and over time it loses its efficiency. I'm trying to contact somebody in Perú to make the prosthetics like yours.
Hi! Thanks for following my channel. You're absolutely correct the adhesive is not cheap. I recall 15 years ago I got them for $40-45 Canadian per bottle and they were small. I hope they are more common now so the prices go down. Good luck!
Hi I also have a prosthetic ear in which I have been wearing for 8 years now . I have found if you clean around the abutments daily after my shower with warm water with a little salt dissolved I don’t get many infections. I also wash my ear in a very mild baby shampoo at least twice a week and clean around the magnets like you I am in the process of getting a new prosthetic made. But eight years is not bad for the prosthesis life
Hi! You're absolutely right. You have chosen the right techniques :) I try to stay away from using any chemicals so I just stick with tap water. Good luck on your new prosthetic journey!
Thanks for sharing! Did you try (or consider) prosthetic ears that attach only with adhesive and not the magnets? Wondering if that would reduce the risk of infections.
You bet! And I did. I used to wear prosthetics using adhesive. I applied them every morning for almost 7 years. It was so much work! I would still get infections like acne and the likes. And when I do, the ear doesn't stick on well...
Let me know your prosthetic journey and if you dare to share, what does it smell like?!
Thank you for this video. It was very interesting. Happy new yEAR ;)
You're welcome! Haha. I love your pun 👂
No prosthetics here, but I got my baha 6 today, after many months of waiting! Woohoo!
Congratulations!! I'm so happy for you. How do you like it so far? 🎉
