So many reviewers don’t understand what a draw awd plus hybrid is. I want a trunk due to security. I don’t want people seeing what I have in the back. I’m a middle age woman. Want a nice car. No longer need all the space of a highlander and want a nice, smooth quiet ride that is safe in the snow and gets good gas mileage and has the newest tech.
The newest Tech might be an overstatement. For the price, it should have a HUD, Ambient lighting, More power adjustments (seat and wheel), etc. If you want the newest tech you don't get Toyota or Lexus. I love the limited trim and especially the climate concierge. I think it should be better for MSRP. Luckily many dealers are selling it at MSRP or lower and not 8k above like a Prius or Grand Highlander.
I just wish that this craze for ever larger wheels would turn the corner (pun intended) and people would start appreciating the lower cost of tires and other advantages. 21" wheels are totally impractical where I live, where the roads are terrible, just full of potholes, etc.
I completely agree! Higher cost, harsh ride, much higher risk of damaging a wheel. They are great for a sporty car, but not practical for a family truckster. I wonder if the people that are wanting the bigger wheels are just leasing and never pay for replacement tires.
I'm sick of them too. Spending the entire ownership worrying about damaging the wheels or having them ripped off, followed by $1500 for replacement tires sucks.

So far based on the reviews I love the Ltd trim of the Crown, what appeals to me is the seat height (easy in and out) and the overall build but for a $50K car that is supposed to be Toyota's flagship I wish they had a tendered to 3 simple items. 1. lack of HUD, 2. lack of a blind spot camera which is available even on a CRV, 3. It is the middle of 2023 and unfortunately I have yet to see a single Crown on the road.

Ambient Lighting would be nice (Our 2016 La Crosse has beautiful lighting) 12-14 way seats would be nice- not 8. Power tilt/tele wheel would be nice for entry & exit- our 2014 Lexus has it so I feel it should of trickled down after 10 years. Standard 360 view on the Limited would be nice- having to push the car to 50k to get it is crazy... also I don't want the 21 wheel in order to get it. I don't mind the CVT but I wish there was more insulation to the cabin- The Honda Accord does a better job. The 2025 Model year fixes a lot of these issues but only for the Platinum... not the common bought Limited. I like the illuminated door sills.

That’s why I bought a new 2023 VW Arteon SEL Premium R-Line 4Motion and could not be happier!. Same size as this Crown but interior space, rear seat legroom and cargo room (27.2 cubic feet with rear seats up) are all palatial. Not to mention it looks so much better. A head turner!
im in the market for a new (or relatively new) car. in all my shopping i see that they're pretty much the same. what difference does it make ? any car is pretty much the same as any other car. differences mentioned in all these reviews are so minor. - quiet, not so quiet, buttons too far on the right, screen too small, quoted mileage is overstated, etc. If you don't just go for the cheapest car, what criteria is important ?
Do you subscribe to CR? If not I recommend it because it can really help! The ratings really helped to narrow things down. The podcast doesn't really get into it.
There are HUGE differences between cars, even in the same segment. Obviously a big one is reliability, fuel economy, available safety (for example automatic emergency braking) and comfort which is very personal depending on height, driving position, etc. Ride/handling is another big one as well, a long commute or road trip can be pretty miserable with a rough riding car and/or noisy one (wind, engine noise).

This oddball version of the new Toyota Crown is to cars what the platform running shoe is to footwear. Besides the contradictory messages conveyed by its exterior 'styling', another frustrating feature of the Crown is the fact the comfortably raised seating position is immediately compromised by a reduction in headroom compared to the Camry. Yes, Toyota raised this sedan then squashed the passenger compartment. We can only HOPE Toyota brings over one of the more balanced and functional Crown models that made their debut last summer because this one is destined to be known as the Clown. 🤨
I really enjoy these Talkin Cars panel discussions/reviews of cars by Consumer Reports. As far as the Toyota Crown is concerned, I see two factors: one, it has similar appeal as the Subaru Outback Sedan SUS, and the trend towards four-door coupes. I would really like to see a review of the high-performance hybrid version. I agree with the panel that Toyota should be a hatchback.
Helpful info! Wrt "kurt"'s comments, I know that person and learned the manufacturer, Subare, customer support itterated to him the standard industry response "we don't accept customer data nor act on intermittant issues under warraty. Any electronic issue must be continuous and repeatable before we will take action to fix it." One small crumb of comfort: ever so often they release general eleftronic updates which may and have corrected issues.
matt, your post is right on. So NEVER tell service the problem is intermittent, and never diagnose the problem (they DEEPLY resent it when the user knows more than they do). At first. Of course they will reset the error code, and say they can't replicate. Demand a copy of the diagnostic scan. Then show the maintenance manager your OBD2 scan, your forum and UA-cam data. Give the mm one more chance to do the right thing. Then escalate: 1-800, burn them in multiple online reviews, post on user forums the name of the dealership, etc.
Who would get this over a 2023 Honda Accord EX-L or Touring trim? Some of the reviewers think the new 2023 Honda Accord Touring is similar to this Crown in terms of quietness at cruising speed but at a much lower price. The only thing the Accord is missing is a spare tire that I think can be bought after market.
I too like the Avalon, but it was a huge car. Then Toyota dropped the Avalon, and made an even larger car? What? Why? No thanks. Too too big. I guess we will end up with the RAV4 Hybrid instead, or the 2025 Camry hybrid is nice too. No CROWN for me, I'm not Donald tRUMP!
It's intriguing, but so was the Honda Crosstour. At the end of the day, it's completely pointless. It doesn't have the functionality of a hatchback, despite giving up visibility and room for just that purpose. The ride is just so-so....the noise levels are elevated from the 4 cylinder.........the hybrid system shudders.....it handles like a beached whale. Garbage
I dont compare the crown to an Avalon, Camry, Rav4 but I do compare the platinum to the Lexus Rx 500h. Check the specs and do a review around something that is more accurate.
The Subaru user needs a better mechanic. Plain and simple. My family has three Subarus overall now, two in Florida, one in Connecticut. One had an electrical problem in Florida. They troubleshooted it as it was inconsistent, and learned a microchip board had a short circuit when a set of specific commands were sent to it. They figured it out and the problem was solved.
With this ridiculous car shortage anything will sell and Toyota knows that and by the way I hope you enjoy the markups their dealer enjoys to give you.. I'll pass
I’ll never pay for an adjusted market value markup even if i never have another new car. Legalized robbery. F them! I found the Crown Limited at one of the two Toyota dealerships near me for 15 hundred under msrp while the other had a bunch of useless ad on’s for 8 thousand more. (Mostly road hazard warranties and paint protection and junk like that.) Kia are some of the worst for markups that i’ve seen. I’m sure there are plenty of others.
The Crown seems to be a car similar to the old Toyota Cressida back in the late 1980s and 1990s, until it was discontinued and then the lower tier Camry took over (it was built in parallel to the Cressida) and the Cressida became the GS at Lexus. Now it seems they are going to the old format of the Cressida being the luxury Toyota with the Crown. Back to the future.
The more I'm researching Toyota, the more we are leaning towards the 2023 Honda Accord Touring after our current 2020 Accord Touring lease is up late Spring.
Exactly what I was thinking, a new Accord Touring costs USD 10k less than the top of the line Crown. The Crown would need cost a lot less for me to pick it over an accord.
Ingress and egress on a Camry is the problem as it sits too low. The V6 is nice but you take a hit on the fill up. The crown seems cool from the outside but the more I learn about this car the more negatives stick out for the price point
For anyone who's particularly interested in the history of the "Toyota Crown" name (first used in 1955), Throttle House has a fun look back at all the cars on which Toyota has used the Crown name over the years. Spoiler alert, it's not been used with only one car. Many very substantially different cars have "worn" the Crown (name). ua-cam.com/video/h2bijAb-IvU/v-deo.html
I question Toyotas decision on the Crown...the C-HR didnt work and this may fall into that category. The trunk looks small, no hatch, turbo4, it just seems out of touch.
Don’t see how or why EVs would pose greater diagnostic and/or service problems than ICE cars: EVs include many fewer moving parts, to say nothing of less in the way of fluids and consumables.
in theory you are correct! The problem is dealerships are luddites and they don't want anything that's going to cut into their profits. So they resist any and all adoption of new technology, investment in training or hiring new personnel and buying equipment to service this.
BINGO!!!! It’s almost a play on names, this should’ve been the return of the Venza.I bought one just for the fun of it,well lease I should say. Will right it off on our business so I’ll see how it goes for the next 48months…Due to receive it end of March.
The phrase 'old people's car' is getting old. In the past, some older people bought Toyotas to feel young. Now Toyotas are for the older crowd and older people are getting shamed when buying a big comfortable car. The media tells you that you must have a sporty, high tech car if you want to hang on to your youth.
Hey talking car folks, we older people aren't really looking for excitement driving such as in a BMW. We want quiet we want confident we want reliable we want safe.
I think ALL auto manufacturers need to get rid of this stupid fetish for giant fish-mouth grilles. They look unbelievably ugly, and I’m just so sick of them.
The smaller 19 inch wheels are still too large. Have the designers of these cars ever driven on normal roads? Give me 17s for winter, 18s for the rest of the year and a spare instead of a useless can of fix-a-flat.
I thought the answer to the reader/viewer submitted question was obvious; Stop going to a mechanic or dealership who is not certified or does not have factory certified techs to work on your car. Simple as that. With that said, these three lost me. They sure do talk a lot, but they are not really saying anything. Blocking this channel.
The Crown seems to me to be a car for people who aren’t morbidly obese so they don’t need an SUV and would like something sleek with more responsive handling. The only reason this (car) “sector is dying” is because people are so damn beeeg!
i made the mistake of buying one of these!!!!! Uncomfortable, slow, brakes weak, if you are 6ft. tall or taller it is not for you, too small! If you are thin you can not reach the door armrest, the door armrest is also off set from the other armrest! If you put the seat all the way back you run out of door armrest it is too short!!!! What a mess!!! Oh and after spending ten minutes setting my seat up when I turn the car off it makes the seat go all the way back and makes it hard to get out of!!! TOTAL SH/T CAR F OFF TOYOTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The VW Arteon, Audi A5, Audi A7, Buick Regal Sportback have 21.8 - 31.5 cu ft of space. I really think a large sedan sportback bridges the gap between a sedan, CUV, and wagon. My wife likes the Crown but I like the Arteon!

Do you think that Toyota will add a car wash mode to the Crown Limited - maybe thru firmware upgrade
Yes, please give the Subaru Outback a run for its money! Bring the Crown Estate wagon!!
The JDM Crown Sedan has much nicer styling.
The sedan-style trunk is really stupid. It makes the vehicle less useful and it's still a high-riding SUV so you don't get sedan fuel economy.
The Crown wins my Pontiac Aztec award as the most butt ugly car of 2023. What was Toyota thinking?
Seems strange to introduce a new, large sedan when they are dying off. Why didn't Toyota just improve the Avalon?
Thank you Consumer Reports!
I am sick of suv ! All car prices are going up. Ev are not affordable & the avalon is died so get over it & move on. Long live SEDANS😂😅
The two tone paint looks like a silly, poorly executed afterthought.
Yeah the car was not designed for this paint treatment.
I kinda like the Duracell battery one, lol.
I think Toyota completely missed it with the outside design.
Keep in mind during the launch, the crown will have multiple body styles coming soon. Not sure about to the states.
The missing spare tire is a deal breaker for me. 🤷♂️
If the 340hp Crown is pleasant but not exciting, wait until you drive the new hybrid Accord
The performance in the crown is so pathetic
It can’t even outperform a Camry v6
@@naveenthemachine you nailed it! Esp all the buzzy noisy 4 banger and loss of that buttery smooth V6 😩
1:55 eCVT 🙂
What have I learned? ZERO
I'll pass
Same here - I’m not buying Toyota’s funky styling & bloated prices. There tons of other vehicles to choose from.
Why not consider the Camry? The top end XSE v6 is a good option imo
Is it Lexus quiet?
Apparently you haven’t even driven this car, and here you are trashing it. This is why I cancelled my CR subscription. 0:01
$50K I'm getting a NX350H. Or a Venza.
This is more roomy than the NX. We are looking to buy the NX hybrid as well.
10K less can buy you a Camry w the v6 engine and achieve the same 0-60 as the hybrid max crown
Crown is just ok 🤠 can be better to much plactic can be better.
AMC was ahead of it's time, too bad they didn't make it lol.
Crown = old Venza
With the little tiny trunk opening instead of a nice practical hatchback.
BINGO!!!! It’s almost a play on names, this should’ve been the return of the Venza.I bought one just for the fun of it,well lease I should say. Will right it off on our business so I’ll see how it goes for the next 48months…Due to receive it end of March.
Has the Model Y Roofline. 😂
The exterior of the car doesn't necessarily scream crown to me I don't entirely like it
I have almost 200 thousand miles on my Avalon
This is not the way to save sedans.
SUVs suck! More deadly to road users, more resource intensive, more expensive, and worse to drive...
Just a little confused by this vehicle.
So is Toyota.
me too
The buyers who can afford new don’t want to bend down into the car, like the higher visibility. Yeah, Toyota sells to retirees.
Looks like a lift back - me: 😮👏
Toyota: it is not actually a lift back. Me: 😒
tbh, i much prefer the Avalon and planned on buying one in 2024... pretty disappointed. The crown is a dud for me.
Well you're a big girl, i would feel closed in to!!
Looks just like anything else on the road. Blech.
Whose Crown is this? Vic's? Crown . . . Vic.
I cannot see the appeal of this sedan. I’d rather have a Camry over this ungainly looking model.
Turbo engine…more expensive to maintain and repair, less of a lifespan.
I’ll take an Avalon any day over this ugly thing! There’s nothing Royal about this funky car - What was Toyota thinking?🤮
Has anyone seen a Tesla? Many say it’s a hybrid response to the unreliable Tesla. Car reviewers would know that.
A Camry XSE v6 is so much better than this joke
Hey talking car folks, we older people aren't really looking for excitement driving such as in a BMW. We want quiet we want confident we want reliable we want safe.
You described an EV. Quiet, fewer components to maintain, etc.
I think the Avalon looks better then the crown 👑 the crown looks plain Avalon better car.
Everyone saying same thing the crown no worth 50.000 thousand door panels are plain.
I think ALL auto manufacturers need to get rid of this stupid fetish for giant fish-mouth grilles. They look unbelievably ugly, and I’m just so sick of them.
To expensive and a Sedan, 2 reasons to NOT buy one!
Cars on this kind of platform have failed. The BMW X series was like this.
She has no notes, thats why she's following your guy's lead on this...
The smaller 19 inch wheels are still too large. Have the designers of these cars ever driven on normal roads? Give me 17s for winter, 18s for the rest of the year and a spare instead of a useless can of fix-a-flat.
At least you get a spare.
Totally alienating to middle aged and older buyers that have the money to afford one. So will be a big failure.
We all hate Mike Quincy.
I’m not obese, but i really like the Crown. Both for looks and the ride.
i made the mistake of buying one of these!!!!! DID NOT GET A SECOND KEY AFTER 2 MONTHS!!!! terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
