As much as I believe buying recently used is the way to go, I bought a new 2023 Camry for less than the 2020 Camry that sat across the lot from my car (same trim). This is a ridiculous time.

Agree, I think right now it might be easier to get a better "deal" on a new car.

i think it just depends as im looking more at civics and used ones are about $3-5k over what my mom paid back in 2018 and the new ones are still seeing $5-10k at least here in california. However the accords have significantly fallen in price to the point where i've thought about spending some extra cash to go to the higher model

Mike throwing so much shade at my 2010 Ford Fusion. I still like it, and it has been inexpensive to buy and run. A mechanics inspection is even more valuable with so many hurricane/flood cars on the market.

I have a 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid that I bought new that now has 155,000 miles on it. It has been the most reliable and best car I have ever owned. It averages 38 mpg, and I live in the Colorado mountains and have a lead foot. I change the oil every 5,000 miles, and have had a few minor issues that did not cost much to fix. It has been more reliable and way more comfortable than the two Priuses I have owned in the past. It is one of five vehicles we currently own.

My neighbor bought a BMW X1. She took me with her and I could tell that the hood had been painted. I did not recommend the car. But after I left the dealer dropped the price of the car. So she bought it anyway. 6 months later, she had to dump it. Why? Because she didn't listen to getting it inspected and we found out later it was a flood vehicle. It stopped working

My lease with my 2020 Optima is up in August 2023. That's still a while away and wouldn't mind getting a lease on an SUV at that time, but the buyout price for the Optima at that time at $12 K makes it better sense to buyout the vehicle at that time since it sounds like the dealers are still screwing the consumer and not about to let down anytime soon.

RAM and Chrysler are having fire sales, 12k off is normal around here for those POS, especially teucks. Rest are sticking to the sticker price for the most part.

Thank you for your anti-salvage title car advice - they're all I buy and I don't need the competition. Seriously though, there are reputable people who know what they're doing and provide all of the "before" pictures and talk about the repairs they've made. My 2012 Mazda 6 was totaled because it got the trunk lid and rear bumper smashed in. I was going to buy a new one (this was 2017), but the dealer tried to add $1k right as I was coming to pick it up, so I went with the salvage guys I knew and paid 1/4 the price. People are massively dishonest throughout the car industry. Believing that the dealer is better than an independent is just fooling yourself.

I recommend buying Honda, Acura, Toyota and Lexus for their reliability and good resale value. I would even consider Subaru, Mazda and all American trucks.

My 11 Rav 4WD Limited V6 is worth more today than what I paid for it 5 years ago.
The same as my 11 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 is worth $7K more than what I paid for it in 19.

Great show! Piece of production advice - there's a lot of blown out bass here throughout the episode when the hosts bump the mics or table surface that is hard to listen to.

I think Mike had the most helpful answers. But I did not learn anything from this convo. I have been looking for 2 weeks and finally have a strategy worked out and not running all over just willy nilly. I think there should have been better prep for this as it is a huge problem right now. Steve, when shopping for a car, you’re not gonna wear it for a week, you want to wear it for many years. So purchasing a vehicle that does not suit your wants and needs is just not helpful info for buyers in this market. Yes you can compromise on which brand to go with, as many are ridiculously over priced right now. Telling people to go with a lower standard car instead of a suitable one is just not helpful. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have no problem paying market value for a used car but what I won't do is pay more than original sticker for somebody's 5 year old POS. Sorry I'll just have to ride or die in my own POS.

I just bought a 2014 nissan sentra fully loaded with a accessories, 87000 miles for $12000.00 I figure that's about $3 to 4000.00 more than it would have been pre pandemic. Does it make sense to pay it off fast or drag it out for a long time. You've already lost the 3 to 4000.00.
Got at 6.9% payment $169.00 for 72 months with gap insurance. What makes more sense. I had to buy previous car had total mechanical breakdown.

Malpractice exclamation don't tell someone to just go out and buy anything especially if it's got a poor reliability history. The last thing you want to do Is buy someone's headache especially if you can't find parts. In Miami they are selling 7 year old Camrys w 15th0k+ for no less than $14000. You also need to beware with all of the recent weather events Where there was flooding That you don't get stuck with a flood car. It's far more common than you think.

Are websites like truecar , Autotrader, CarGurus etc good and reliable sites for giving us a rough idea of the fair price of used cars? I am asking because they are still showing crazy high prices( unrealistic) of used cars. And how will I know price of a particular car I looked up has come down because they tell us about price drop

The 1991-1996 buick park avenue ultra in the thumbnail got my attention I love that generation of park avenue but like typical GM they had to ruin the car in 97 only good thing about it is the 3800 V6

I agree but I also understand what he’s saying. Some people just want a cross over or suv to want one. If you’re willing to be flexible and get a car instead, you can save a lot of money since the demand is not as high. But yes if you need a suv then get one.

I think it is actually great advice. For many consumers, a sedan or hatchback meets all their needs and gets you so much more bang for your buck.

It doesn’t matter what the car cost 10 or 20% off the price of the car doesn’t matter because the dealer will get the money back when you need to repair 👨‍🔧 the car 🚗 gas ⛽️ or electric ⚡️ seriously this is how it works

I would not buy a new or used car 🚗 today because like he says car prices are all over the place with that said car technology is changing so quickly that what ever you buy today will be obsolete and cheaper next year because car technology is changing I prefer to lease that way I am not stuck with an car elephant in my driveway after two years. Electric ⚡️ cars are much better than gas ⛽️ cars, but some electric ⚡️ cars are not as good as newer electric cars because the technology is moving that fast 💨 so this is why leasing is much safer.

It depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. I bought my car new 8 years ago and it would have been a mistake to buy a used one because it would be needing repairs by now and it wouldn't have had what was then the latest safety features and higher MPG.
