  • The Niangua River is one of those beautiful rivers that flows through the middle of Missouri...from deep within the heart of the Ozarks north toward Iowa. Just west of Lebanon, Missouri the river takes in over 100 million gallons of cool spring water from Bennet Spring State Park. This 56 degree water warms the river and offers up a sanctuary for many fish; browns, rainbows and smallmouth. On this trip I was able to land a trophy fish of each specie listed...along with many others. In the midst of summer the river becomes warmer and the fish once again congregate looking for the cool temps offered up by the spring flowing into The Niangua. Hope you enjoy the action and in particular keep an eye out for a big brown that comes flying out after my baitfish pattern. I used to work at Bennet Springs St. Park for the Conservation Dept in the hatchery...Best job ever...They freakin paid me to catch thousands of fish a day...also I had a nice little cabin a few miles up stream right on the river...I could have paddled to work lol...Good Video and happy paddling

Jeff thanks for the videos, very informative and a pleasure to watch. Look forward to tying a few of your patterns to try around my local waters now that I'm back to Indiana. If you ever head out to eastern Idaho, NW Wyoming area let me know I will point you in the direction of some fine hidden gems as a token of appreciation.

Your spring break trip definitely had better results than ours Jeff. Those were some nice fish. Bet your counting down the days till retirement so you can do this more often!

That's just crazy good fishing action. I mean how many species did you catch in that rather short stretch of water? I thought I even saw a spotted bass or largemouth mixed in there. I swear that brown took you totally by surprise when you were clearing away the line from the previous fish. Awesome video Jeff thanks for sharing.

Great video and nice fish. Where do you normally put in when fishing the Niangua from a boat? Me and buddy are planning to get down there this spring with our kayaks. Do you use a shuttle service to get your boat back to your vehicle? Thanks.

Can you list your set up? Line & tippet, as well as the flies you use in this video and Bennet? I’m a fellow Missourian and fish Bennet frequently.
