On Lk St Clair, pre-post spawn is the best time for smallies as they'll get too deep even for running a sinking line. Know the prey and use those types of flies. Find structure, rocks, ledges , isolated weed beds, etc... electronics help, a lot.

I love both wild fly and blue line flies. I’m brand new to fishing and fly fishing at that. I liked the skill and the challenge of fly fishing. Now I’m hooked, but here in Columbus Ohio, smallmouth really is what I’m going for. We only have 2 stocked rivers for trout, and I’m not buying a musky rod as a newbie. So these guys have helped me so much. Once I get some extra money, and stock comes back at blue like flies, I’m buying me a bunch of flies. You guys deserve my support with the content you guys make! I’m also getting a wild fly hat.

I’m living in southwest Ohio. The upper parts of the great Miami river and little Miami river are both great for smallmouth. The lower section of the Mad river is also a great place to target smallies. Cheers!

Great video on smallmouth fishing. I live outside of Huntsville, AL and never realized there was smallmouth fishing like that around and was trying to figure out where you were fishing. I have been fly fishing for trout for the last 10 or so years and would like to try catching smallmouth and after watching your video it makes me want to do it even more. Thanks again.

This video was awesome - very informative, well structured, and beautifully shot! Can you please do a video about how to position yourself for certain holes, seams, Eddies? In other words, how best should you make your approach? From upstream to downriver? From the side? Downriver upstream? What about if you wade? Should you walk up or down? Should you swing into it from upsteeam, and keep the streamer suspended in current? Strip the streamer up current, then let it drop and give slack so it can float down stream?

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

12:55 - six to eight weight, ideally a seven. Need it for big bulky flies. Can do very well with smaller flies, and enjoy the fight much more, with a good five weight... but a 20” smallie is a force to be reckoned with.
