Man, when I watch these old videos from the early days it makes me realise how much Carl has improved his lessons over the years. Even back then they’re still better than most of the ones today. 😉
Regarding the solo, the teaching is so clean and on point, I have understood everything without even going for my first attempt. God-level teaching! 🤟🏽
Just had the tune in my head but needed directions, Which you gave perfectly.Carl ur a good teacher, I've followed you for years on utube and you've taught me plenty. Thank you. W.
awwww my fingers are so smalllllllllll!!!!!!!!!! 1:07 clean guitar intro 9:43 distorted guitar intro 12:00 intro solo how do you get that tone i am having a hard time on my amp
Try practising stretch scales and stretch chords and consider on buying a small scale guitar (i.e. a Les Paul or a SG which have 24,5 inches neck lenght) with a speedy neck (C shape 20mm thicknes and small nut width). Regarding the note you should note that Slash usually uses a medium-high distortion level (even though he cranks that poor Marshall to its maximum) and he pushes a lot mids through the EQ, while cutting treble and high. The the chourus fx is very subtle (low rate and tight width). Said that it also depends on the type of magnets your guitar has and your amp type (valve or transistor or digital).
thanks so much....you have all these awesome videos where you teach a full song rather than leave your subscribers hangin halfway with a partial lesson or a lesson of the main riff like a lot of you tube teachers do...i know its kus a lot of em want to to pay for lessons of the full sonh with them and stuff but you dont do that...thanks so much for that...if i get to one day be as great guitar player as you are i will do the same as you have set a great example
You are a great player, a great teacher and a great person!! Thank you so much for what you do: you allow us to get a dream playing our favourite riff and solos!! Tantissime grazie!!
No that's incorrect. Slash said in interviews that he wrote the intro. It's got his signature sound all over it, and he plays the part live so there's little doubt there.
Great lesson. All these years of listening to the intro of that studio version, have revealed something to me. I'm 100% sure the second time Slash plays that sequence (when the snare drum kicks in), he plays the F chord (standard tuning) slightly different. Maybe he's not arpeggiating, but playing the full chords, I'm not entirely sure. But if you listen very closely, you will notice a difference to the sound. Maybe Slash messed it up a little bit, who knows, all sorts of mishaps could happen when you play in the studio.
I know that it's an old video but I Was looking into it on standard tuning. And thank you for being so to the point and for the tips. Cheers from Greece.
You are a great teacher for me. Absorb your teaching style quite well. Thanks you sir. learned always with you always with me and this from you. Songs I never thought Id figure out.
Thank you Carl once again you have shared your wonderful knowledge ,but unlike others you have made it so easy to understand. I always come back to you when i want to learn something and that particular tune i remember trying to learn years ago from Danny Gill on lick library ,No disrespect to Danny cos he's great ,but they should have employed you for that teaching. Respect to you as always and much love from England .
Still a beginner and haven't played for upwards of a week. While I managed to get all the strings to sound, I forgot I need to play a little bit every day to build guitar calluses on my fingertips so I had to stop. Wish I could've kept going but poor maintenance says no.
your lessons are awesome perfect camerawork, good sound, not the long talks!! One point of critic: you should explain your pedals etc.. (like in sweet child o mine,...)
I hate to inform you, but Hendrix did use a Gibsons from time to time. He Flying Vs, SG Custom, has used Les Pauls, along with Telecasters. But most of the time, a strat. But I understand your point.
I just listened to the original recording and Slash uses the other G chord that you play at 9:26 all through the intro. It sounds better and is easier to play. The D note on the B string should be in all 3 chords... G, C, and F. Your solo licks are great.
I would start by doing just the chord shapes, strum them, SLOWLY. Don't worry about the picking, just get your hand used to doing he chords, then slowly start the picking pattern one chord at a time, SLOWLY. Make sure to alternate pick
Hi, I really like this lesson. Im stuck at 10:35... can you tell which strings you're strumming for the the C power chord? You say 5th fret on two middle strings, but that leaves 2nd string open which as far as I know makes that a C minor? Sorry, Im a newb
my problem is my fingers are thicker than most players I have to kinda go the long way around I can't leave all my fingers in position thru the chord changes this is one of those things I'm sure they never pick the same exact patterns Everytime u can randomly pick thru things it sounds great anyway some of the advice I ever got was don't over analyze this stuff have fun
this is awsome man:D but i'm a beginer learning by myself n i got a lot of trouble picking strings up. any of u got an idea on how to practice alternete picking?
Now when you're pushing the strings up the neck of the guitar, how do you avoid shoving the other strings under your nails??? Every time I try doing that, the other strings keep going under my nails and it frikin hurts!!!

Dear Carl,
thank you very much for these great guitar lessons. They really helped me to improve a lot.
Greetings from Germany

After 11 years still as useful as ever 👌🏼
Only 7K views ?? It is by far the best video to learn how to play this song. Most other videos are made by freaking amateurs.
Thank alot!
Sir, it’s been 9 years. I just want to say hello again
Happy 10.5 years to this gem! 🥳🥳
awwww my fingers are so smalllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!
1:07 clean guitar intro

12:00 intro solo
how do you get that tone i am having a hard time on my amp
for the intro tone use chorus effect and the correct amt of gain and reverb

For a long long time Carl has always been my 1st place to turn when learning a song
This is the most cool lesson I've seen in months. Thanks a lot! You can tell from the arpeggio pattern that Izzy was a fucking genius!

An Eric Johnson signature model. :)
Nice video
This is the first tutorial that's actually correct in picking the correct notes in the correct order 👌🔥

I am learning this song just to make a video about riffs with chorus effect, and this video is amazing.
Thank you Carl once again you have shared your wonderful knowledge ,but unlike others you have made it so easy to understand.

The solo is easier to play than the intro
Thanks for this love your lessons
First chord of the intro is impossible 😂

Man this song is one of the first where I actually have to use my pinky😂the stretch at the beginning is killing me
your lessons are awesome
perfect camerawork, good sound, not the long talks!!
One point of critic: you should explain your pedals etc..
(like in sweet child o mine,...)
Standard -> EADGBE, altough the original studio version tuning is Eb
thanks so much!

Hey, great lesson. Thank you so much, you're amazing! And by the way, what pedal are you using for the distortion? It sounds killer! Thanks again!!!

best lesson on youtube you should do more GNR!
God I hated learning the clean part but I love how it sounds
classic Les Paul song but you play it awesome on Strat
That little country lick is absolutely killing me mine doesn't sound anything like yours, God its pissing me off massively

nice lessons. I am using it to learn this song. Question, what amp are you using. Tone is amazing
I can play this song, and i love it. Good lesson
Nice lesson, really talented. Keep it up dude
Hi, thanks again! What about Santana - Europa or Gary Moore - The Loner? Two great songs where I can't find any good lessons for..
I would start by doing just the chord shapes, strum them, SLOWLY. Don't worry about the picking, just get your hand used to doing he chords, then slowly start the picking pattern one chord at a time, SLOWLY. Make sure to alternate pick
Can you do "Welcome to the Jungle"?

SDSHugh fret 3 on A string and fret 5 on D and G string
Hey man you have very nice skill and this is very useful to star

If you would please do a lesson on rocket queen 🤘🏼

Hey guys, is this Slash' part as me and a mate are learning it and i have the tab for izzy?
Cheers :D
Yes this is Slash's part.
Thanks.
yes it is! but I want to ask a question!
Where can i find songs that has this theme. Like slower rhythms with the tangy sounds of this electric guitar
Sebastian G Tuesday’s gone lynard skynard
Sir, you are amazing... fu#$% A nice playing!!!!!
Today I learned I never fingered a G chord with my ring finger...my hand hasn't felt this retarded since day 1...ouch
tommywho924 😂👍
How the hell didn’t you use the ring finger
Who else but beginners use middle finger for G?
You need that index for picking 1st
What amp are you using for this lesson? Sounds pretty good.
Thank you, great video.
UA-cam is listening to meeee I was about to fucking learn how to play this on guitar and I was talking to myself about it and boom it fucking came up
awesome! thanks for the upload !

Thanks for making all these tutorial videos. I always wonder how I could have learned to play the guitar before youtube.
Awesome! thanks so much. This is a great lesson brother! :D
this is awsome man:D but i'm a beginer learning by myself n i got a lot of trouble picking strings up. any of u got an idea on how to practice alternete picking?
Got this, thanks alot.
best chanel
Chuck chuck things are awesome!
nice....you make it easy
That chord riff is more difficult than it sounds. Takes a good amount of dexterity.
I didn't find it too difficult, try learning the electric version of Layla by Eric Clapton, that helped me learn this a lot faster.
Excellent. Thanks
thanks a lot dude you kickass!
I usually do a lot more chorus for the Intro
Thanks man
how do you get that tone i am having a hard time on my amp
I thing it’s a chorus pedal
I have this guitar it is very good
Now when you're pushing the strings up the neck of the guitar, how do you avoid shoving the other strings under your nails??? Every time I try doing that, the other strings keep going under my nails and it frikin hurts!!!
Maybe ur strings are a pretty high gauge which would make them pretty stiff and dig into ur nails. Or maybe ur nails r too long
Thanks for this
wow great lesson! :)
wait, is he playing in standard for the lesson only?
