  • Put the big girl together and shes now ready for some MPG and power testing, Now i was hoping to see better MPG and power numbers but seems like im now at a point of making her slower without getting a tuner that will actually get more benefits from all these mods that give her more fuel flow and better exhaust flow etc. Let me know what you guys think?

    Thanks so much for the MPG update. I think the truck probably needs a tuner now to utilize all of the fuel and air modifications that you have done. The clearly organized data sheet is a nice touch to help everyone see the results of each modification.

    Try disconnecting the batterys for 5 minutes and then reconnect them and take it out and stand on the skiny pedal to relearn the fuel curve in the computer.

    I'm looking forward to seeing how the tuner does. This is about what I get for mpg and my truck is completely stock. I think the banjo's, new exhaust and crossover hoses would only improve mpg under load, say like when you're pulling something, because it would allow it to have more torque to pull that load. I think the way to go is to have a tuner that knows what the truck needs better than the stock ECM. The reason for that is the ECM is generic world wide where the tuner is specifically tuned by you for your area and driving conditions. Best I remember Bill Hewitt did a video series on improving the 7.3L diesels and came up with the same conclusions, that a tuner combined with the right mods will work. I think the max mpg he was able to get was 21-22 mpg. That I believe is about 2-3 mpg over stock, but where he made his real gains was in torque adding about 200-300 more ftlbs. Combined with that and the mpg increase that made this work truck far more efficient for the business man who has to rely on this truck daily. For better mpg I would consider a tuner and an external overdrive. The engine has more than enough power to use one and would GUESS give you an increase in mpg just not sure how much. Try one of these Gear Venders overdrive they handle well over 2,500 hp on drag racers: ua-cam.com/video/mEhgAIVEWX4/v-deo.html Here's a guy who put one on his Dodge Ram ua-cam.com/video/epRFq-KlRPA/v-deo.html It's a thought.
    Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

    Wow your truck is way quieter then mine. We’ve done all the same engine mods but I get a lot more sound out of my turbo, especially after I boost to 20psi and release the throttle. I do have the SnB air filter. Highly recommend it! I’ll DM you a sound clip of my truck.

      we have a 01 Crew cab 4x4, what a difference when I installed the Hydra tuner, we run the 65hp setting daily, score around 16mpg and its so much easier to drive, also have 85 and 100hp tunes set as well as 3 towing tunes. You can also install other tuners tunes but I haven't looked into that pretty happy with these. You won't regret installing the Hydra.

      @@tomsmith5947 thanks for the info! Where did you get your tunes from? Is 16mpg mixed driving or is that highway only? I might order a tuner sooner than later now.

    • @tomsmith5947
      @tomsmith5947 4 роки тому

      @@Geoff240ti the tunes come from the company, I think it was an app you put on your computer you load them to, then connect your tuner to your computer and transfer them over, it holds up to 15 total tunes, there's some good videos on UA-cam on install and programming, I didn't have any issues. As far as mileage 16 is all around, have seen 18 on hwy not bad for an old school heavy 7.3. We do a lot of car flipping so tow a lot, the tuner made it a lot better experience, I would recommend a tranny cooler if you haven't installed one yet.

So I say go get a hydra from 1023 and honestly I would call in the order so that they know all the modifications that you did. Kudos братан!

    Back pressure has literally never benefited a turbo powered diesel! But good vid regardless!!

    • @FixItNick
      @FixItNick  4 роки тому

      For example, a 4” straight pipe might flow our easier and 5” pipe would flow out not as smoothly but has more room for future mods and power that would need to exhaust faster. 4” is better on a mostly stock engine

    •  4 роки тому

      @@FixItNick that statement would be true for any diesel that doesn't have a turbo. Like the old Ford IDI's. But anything with a turbo requires as little back pressure as possible. It doesn't matter if your truck is bone stock, the less back pressure on your turbo the better. Reason being, even the slightest bit of back pressure causes backwards spool, also refered to as turbo flutter. This will cause you to not only lose potential power but more importantly it'll prematurely destroy the inner workings of the turbo itself.
