God I miss being a Bradley mechanic. The best part of my job was road testing Bradley's and driving my M88a1 on recovery missions. Driving a tracked vehicle just makes you awesome. Even though the M88s only did 20-25 mph, you felt like you were doing 50 simply because of where you sit as the driver and the amount of mass surrounding you.

P.S. Westin look up the M578 Light Recovery Vehicle. You might be able to find one in Army surplus. Would make insane UA-cam video content.

I can’t believe that I’ve never noticed this before, but whoever originally setup that Ranger on the Tank undercarriage, did it backwards. Whether it’s an excavator or Dozer, Tank. They’re all meant to have the sprockets at the back of the vehicle and solid idler wheels on the front. You’ll wear off the grouser pads far faster when the undercarriage is not moving in “reverse”.
It's done right. The undercarriage is that of an M4 High-Speed Tractor, and artillery tractor used by the US Army from 1943 to 1960. It featured the same roadwheels, sprockets, and tracks as the M5 Stuart, but used HVSS suspension instead of the M5's VVSS.
Nope, many WWII era tracked vehicles had the sprocket in the front because the manual transmissions need to be near the driver. This looks to be the running gear off an m3 Stuart, which has its sprocket in the front.
They may have done that because I know on bigger excavators if you drive forward for to long it will kill the earrings in the top roller
Cat learned very early that rear drive lasts longer but rhe military figured the tank would need full overhauls or be knocked out long before that would be a issue so they went with the easy rear engine design
I have a feeling it would be a blast to work with or for Westen!

The tracks seem to be from a M3 or M5 Stuart, although it's most likely an artillery tractor based on their chassis like Westen said

I triple checked, and it seems to be more in line with M4 high speed tractor check the suspension bars and road wheels
