2001 F350 7.3 PowerStroke - MPG Test Stock vs Upgraded Fuel Pressure Spring 10-60mph, 30-70, 50-70

  • This test needed to be done to get raw pure scientific results. Some got MPG gains after upgrading the spring, so I get to test it, the MPGs 10-60 30-60 50-70 etc, let me tell you these tests suck!!!!! Not being able to drive the truck how I want to and have fun is no fun!!! All this for science!! Lol

Do you live in Ca? In other words, do you have to get emission tests? I am wondering if that air filter will pass.
I have an Excursion with the 7.3l, and that filter is the first thing I did. Every now and then the engine would lope oddly, I did not like it.
Installed the OEM motorcraft filter, loping never came back and I did not feel any power decrease, other than a little quieter....

If your tank is harpooned and its already maxed out your fuel level sensor in the tank, it wont' start to show movement until the level drops enough to move the sensor. In that case you have to calculate it like you did. The LieOmeter will lie to you in the short trips but on the long trips, if your tank isn't harpooned will be fairly accurate. Thanks for the video Nick I purchased the RiffRaff and should be installing it in a few days. Thanks for the tips on the getting the spring in without needing a new line seal! Thumbs up! Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Just recently found your videos and enjoy watching them , good info , and fun to watch. Now something to consider is the quality of the fuel . Im sure that most people who drive diesels have run across this from time to time and it does makes a huge difference.I switched jobs a few years ago and started getting fuel up in that area and was like WTF. I went from 400-425 miles per tank to 540-550 per tank with out doing anything , I got fuel in my home area again and went back to old mileage then filled back up in new area and right back to 540ish again obviously the only variable was the fuel so needless to say I continued to get fuel at that gas station the remainder of that summer till the winter blend came in and then it completely tanked out to shit winter mileage . So I’m a firm believer in good diesel vs the shit that they normally sell to us on the daily makes all the difference also . All my truck mods are is a edge tuner, muffler delete, and a k&n filter sitting in the factory lower filter box in a 02 super cab 0n 35’s w/ 373 gears 29 gal tank and 250k on the clock ,since then I’ve stayed stead at the 350-400 miles for the last couple years now w/300k on it

Great video. I just ordered an upgraded spring from riffraff diesel. I was really hoping for a little better mpg but I will take the running smoother and other benefits over that. I do get between 19-20mpg on the highway in my 2002 f250 2 wheel drive auto. I use cruise control set to 1900 rpms. I read on a forum somewhere to keep it there to stay out of boost pressure. It does keep it very low boost 3psi or less unless on a grade. I use the torque pro app to monitor boost through the map sensor along with rpms. The only thing I have done is removed the aih and cut it off and screwed it back in along with a 6637 filter. This is unloaded with 265/75r16 tires. I run 65psi in the rear and cant remember now what I run up front. It is within 3psi of the rear if I recall correctly. I don’t keep track of in town driving but I think it’s around 14-15mpg maybe. I also just replaced the eot sensor. I was having really rough idle until warm and that made a huge difference in the starting before it was up to running temp. Once warm it ran fine.

  • @mowersareatvs7931

I dont know if you realize this or not but you are slowing yourself down by revving the engine so high. The 7.3 was originally designed to make power at 3,000 rpm which for that year factor would be 275hp and about double the torque at 2,000 rpm. If you redo you speed test shifting right on 3,000 rpm you should actually see a slightly faster times. It's not going to be a massive difference but it is worth noting.

Something that will give you 3 mpg increase is switching engine oil, rear differential lube , Tcase and transmission oil to Amsoil synthetic oils, they are a Tier 5 oil, most of the other ones are tier 4 basically warmed over petroleum oils.
As a fleet mechanic every vehicle we switched to Amsoil synthetic saw no less than 3 mpg improvement or more.
Amsoil full synthetic oil is not oil with an additive package but designed creating sphere shaped molicules unlike petroleum oils that look like goathead shaped molicules that create internal friction where Amsoil molicules are round and glide over each other.
The film strength is more than 10 times greater than petroleum oils.
I sold the motorpool manager on switching the fleet, almost 200 pieces of equipment to Amsoil
By switching all the lube on a 95 FL60 to Amsoil synthetic, wet front hubs, engine 8.3L power steering fluid, transmission, Allison 3000 series 6 speed auto rear differential and greased the
      U joints.
The truck had 95,000 miles on it at the time. Was bought new and the fuel use data showed 6.3 mpg.
After 500 miles I started tracking fuel use, 12.6 it eventually leveled out and stayed at 14.2
After that he went to accounting and budget manager for approval to do the entire fleet, which was done over the next 2 years.
Every vehicle, car, suv, pickup truck to class 8 saw the same increase.
I've used the products and switch other customers to Amsoil synthetic with the same results over 40 years now.
It is money in the bank to use it.

IMHO you need to stay at 70mph for how ever long you want, this will give you highway mph. I personally think a stick shift truck you can't stay consistent enough to get a accurate mpg driving around. I personally love the 86 spring, my dually has a smoother idle, and better throttle response which I will take over any loss of mpg, if you want too make a donation my other 7.3L (F-250) needs a 86 spring also.
