Wow, I love how those engines just pop back to life! Did that on one that had sat in a field for 10 years en Norwich.. amazing.. now I'm farting around with a motorbike. Can't get the bloody thing to start, clearly it's not a landrover!!
I had my 2.5TD 19J Engined Landy 90 parked on the drive, I thought blimey it's been 10 years since I last ran that! I primed the fuel system, let the glow plugs warm her up a bit, turned the key and she started on the 4th turn of the engine, amazing! Sure she breathes like Darth Vader through the crank case, but she always has.
Is that a 2.25 or 2.5 petrol, amazing to think that’s what was fitted in 83/84 before the 2.5 na diesel was ironed out. Thanks for the mention, the later type seal is now a metal ring with rubber round the screw holes rather than cork. I stopped mine from leaking by applying blue hylo to the screws. I had a garage fit a new tank a while back telling me it was leaking from the top I bet there was nothing wrong and just the screw holes weren’t blind. I would fit a genuine tank but now over 900.00!
Nice little video Mike. I liked the old hand over the carb job, it sure pulls the fuel threw, I am not as brave as you, I always lean well back from the carb just in case theres a flaming back-fire. Keep um coming Mike, I need some thing to look at after painting all day. When will it end. Best of luck and stay safe. Yorkshire Rob.
That sealing ring looks just like the sender sealing ring on my mk1 mgb cork ring bolted down - they moved from bolts the next year to a turn ring that compresses evenly (Not sure what its called). I've had it seep once but just nipped the bolts up and no problems in 20 years! Thats a side mounted sender so if it was a serious issue I would get it happening all the time Mind you - is the original tank not a Britpart part!!!!
2.5L petrol according to Wikipedia: "As before, the engine was smooth and refined, and provided the Land Rover with adequate road performance." Right sporty at 83bhp!
The fuel is leaking up the bolt threads as ray walsh wrote and thread sealant will work as might Dowty washers under bolt head. A permanent fix would be to braze a set of studs into the threaded holes.
@@BritannicaRestorations got it from Bolt On Bits on Ebay...was £108 for the tank and full fitting kit inc gaskets....hoses including filler neck and clips was £62...that included UK delivery...I can find links if you want
@@BritannicaRestorations - hehehe! I know, I'm a sarky bugger. That's me all caught up with every video you've banged out. Brain fried with watching a few a day. I fee now, that I could get a 110 and strip it down on the kitchen worktop and have it back together again in 10 mins - all thanks to you. Anyhoo - I sorta had a ''proposition'' I wanted to put to you - involving SAG just down the road from you.... whaddya think?
Arriving without gaskets and screws makes it virtually worthless to your average Joe athome in his driveway tinkering on the car. What were they thinking.
Another Land Rover made better. Thanks Mike, nice one!
Very nice original 90!

As long as you crank them to get the oil round first - I see a lot of guys throw easy start in them so they fire right up - not good!
@@BritannicaRestorations totally agree! Pull the wire off the carb's solenoid (if it's got one?) to avoid watering down the cylinders with petrol.

2.25 petrol - tanks is an easy fix
that engine sounds rather sweet , worth giving it a decent service i recon
Yes it has never been started in years by the look of the tank!

I made that tool so that the ring can be tightened down evenly - never leak now
The jobs never end on landys 🤣😂🤣👍👍👍

300 tdi was 110bhp new and quite a few of those ponies have left the paddock now!

Magnificent..😁pip pips and carryon
Oh yes!
...thankfully my recent tank came with a full fitting kit, including all gaskets, screws, nuts and bolts and hoses with hose clips :)
Where did you get yours from Paul and how much?

That's ok just working out UK retail
@@BritannicaRestorations that was the best price I could find anywhere
Lovely !! Are the 2.5 petrols more common in North America they are sadly nearly extinct in the uk
Lots of Series 2a/3 with petrol, but not many Defender types
I'd have sprayed some carb cleaner down it.
Aye....we'll make a mechanic out of you yet.....
Trying!

Sweet as a nut that mike 👍🏻
Needs a bit of a tune up those sliding points are a pain - would be nice with electronic ignition
Britannica Restorations Ltd yep, I miss tinkering with old petrol engines
There is a very exaggerated difference in noise level compared to a 300!!!!!
Very comfortable drive - steering is super light!

This was a trade supply but I was wondering why supply only one seat of seals?
Oh god! No sweatshirt in summer? Global warming again! ☀️
Going to be 35c today - I may have to undo my top button

SHOCKING! Rover porn! 🤣
I don't care how hot and humid it is - don't do videos with you wearing your mankini !

New revenue stream for you, Mike - wear the mankini and have a version for Patreons with you edited out or clothing superimposed...
