"An ELO member" has to be Jeff Lynne since he is the only songwriter in ELO and owns the rights to all of ELO's songs.

I am from Sweden and i was lucky to see them live at the Arvika festival in -98 one of the best performances i have ever seen and i have seen Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, Pj Harvey , Gary Numan,
Refused, Violent femmes, Janes Addiction etc…
You lucky git! I’m from the Scottish highlands and was 20 in 1998. I was pregnant with my first child and I remember the music of the late 90s being amazing. My friends and I used to drive through the night to go to Reading Festivals and we had T in the Park here in Scotland…amazing. I love PJ Harvey - she can wail!

Electric Light Orchestra - Don't Bring Me Down
The only thing similar to ELO is that main riff on the bass and guitars. Once they realized the similarity they contacted Jeff Lynne of ELO for permission so he is credited as one of the songwriters.

The issue is that people don't read. Which means that when they come here to complain they don't know that unlike so many other bands and artists today THE HIVES has class! They don't know that The Hives contacted and gave cred to the member of ELO who wrote the song ( he now stands as an official songwriter for this song) as soon as they noticed the similarity.

Who is watching this while having Hives?
Just because it originated with ELO, doesn't mean it can't be improved upon, or that almost everyone who sees this video has to mention it. I mean ELO is great and all (I have several albums of theirs), but I do think The Hives have improved on their song.
The main riff for the song is similar to British group Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) "Don't Bring Me Down". It was not intentionally copied, but once they realized that the songs sounded alike they contacted ELO's Jeff Lynne, who wrote "Don't Bring Me Down", to get permission to use the riff. As a result, Lynne is credited as one of the song's writers. Lynne was also credited as composer in the album's liner notes.
