Franz Ferdinand took inspiration for their name from a racehorse called "The Archduke Ferdinand." After seeing the horse race on TV they began to discuss Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, whose assassination triggered World War I. They decided it would be a good band name because of its sound and the implications of the Archduke's death. The song compares lovers to snipers aiming at each other. The lyrics begin, "So if you're lonely, you know I'm here waiting for you. I'm just a cross hair, I'm just a shot away from you." Alex Kapranos told NME it's about how you'd, "rather be shot than continue the tension." Copy & Paste from (songfacts)

the way this incarnation of Franz Ferdinand burst into the scene as a complete artistic package, audio-visual, was incredible. especially the first couple records, and the way they presented themselves in that era had so much intention and drive. I'm mentioning this because most bands these days, roughly 20 years later, don't even come close. this revival moment had a joyful ire about critiquing the looming digital sensory overload age (this is pre iphone), via constant allusions to analog visual aesthetics yet in a way that poked fun back on itself which is perhaps what made them loveable rather than just pretentious. early Franz Ferdinand was a rare mystical artistic accident that celebrated humor and playfulness somehow mixed with a gothic sensibility and darkness, delivered with a heart warming sincerity. they were facetious enough to call the venue they played at the Chateau, while wearing eyeliner and singing about being served on a platter.. miss this time now looking back, but in a way I'm happy that they evolved and kept their journey going, songs like this though remain in the time capsule that is youtube as relics of a weirdly hopeful but unhinged time that was the post 9-11 aughts..

We making it out of Sarajevo with this one 🗣️
This feels so nostalgic, almost. 1910's vibes
Good times
I mean they have some early Soviet aesthetics in their music videos
Just saw them yesterday in a festival. They are awesome live, didn't really know them before but they definitely left an incredible impression.
If you got the opportunity, grab a ticket to see them live it's worth it !
Honestly deep down from bottom of my heart i feel really sorry to those who never hear any output from this band. I feel really bless and grateful to stumble Andalusia where they played in my tv from public broadcaster(special thanks to who decide to play this) or else theres zero chance i cross path to this hidden gem.
10 years later and still good
age has nothing to do with music dear friend :)
@@DrCowinaboxno it doesn’t 😊
Man, I forgot this song existed for the longest time. It's been over a decade since I've heard this song. What a nice surge of nostalgia
This looks like someone just discovered an editing app for the first time and used all the features they could- it's great.
+Carson Montgomery oh cool
Probably adobe after effects
It looks more Renaissance...just because they are named Franz Ferdinand doesn't mean the song is related >_>
Carson Montgomery Please explain me how the name of the band and the song are intentionally related...And Renaissance lasted until the end of the 18th century,,
Also this video is over 10 years old. They probably didn't have as much to work with then as they have now.
absolute CINEMA.
0:47 - 0:55 If there's such a thing as a plot twist in music, this is it.
A bad twist
@@ericborman4856 absolute shit opinion
@@pompousFurball haha that's your opinion of course
Hhhmmm rickroll???? Lol
@@ericborman4856 well yeah, their opinion is the correct one. Yours is wrong. Sorry

The guitar is just fucking perfect in this song. I want this played at my assassi- I mean funeral.

daft punk synths would be awesome with the guitar if they remade it xD
+John Rambo lol yeah

Nice guitar,,
15 years later, still a banger
lyrics
So if you're lonely
You know I'm here waiting for you
I'm just a cross-hair
I'm just a shot away from you
And if you leave here
You leave me broken, shattered I lie
I'm just a cross-hair
I'm just a shot, then we can die
Ah-ah-ah
I know I won't be leaving here
With you
I say, "Don't you know?"
You say, "You don't know"
I say
"Take me out"
I say, "You don't show"
Don't move, time is slow
I say
"Take me out
I say, "You don't know"
You say, "You don't know"
I say
"Take me out"
If I move, this could die
If eyes move, this could die
I want you
To take me out
I know, I won't be leaving here (with you)
Oh, I know I won't be leaving here
I know, I won't be leaving here (with you)
I know, I won't be leaving here
With you
I say, "Don't you know?"
You say, "You don't know"
I say
"Take me out"
If I wane, this could die
If I wait, this could die
I want you
To take me out
If I move, this could die
Eyes move, this can die
Come on
Take me out
I know, I won't be leaving here (with you)
Oh, I know I won't be leaving here
I know, I won't be leaving here (with you)
I know, I won't be leaving here
With you

2004 one of the best years of my life, franz ferdinand, strokes, white stripes, gorilllaz, etc etc
Still waiting on a Vocaloid themed collaboration with Gorillaz!
Daft punk, too. And the age of the PS2/XBOX/Gamecube, as well as the heyday of Bionicle. :
Sounds great, but I wasn’t even born yet, still this song is so damn good
Sorry for you
@@Kepora1 especially daft punk for me :/ good days
This song has such 2000s vibe and i absolutely love it.
Really ahead of its time for 1914...
@@Michael_Valentine bwhahaha soo true mate.
Underrated band
I miss all of those rock bands that popped up in the early 2000's, bands like The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Arctic Monkeys.
I don't know how many of them still make music like this
Doge Yeah, their new sound is alright.
The Strokes fucking suck now, they don't even make rock music anymore.
Thomas Patrick Parker well. at least we will have their GOLD albums from the beggining forever (maybe)
Doge Yeah, they were amazing from 2001-2008. That's good atleast.
The Arctic Monkeys sound might've changed but their best era was definitely the Humbug era. Their sound was just so unique and mysterious. Definitely my favorite album from them.
mobmanic Jajajajajajaajajajajajajajaajjajajzajajajajaja, you are a good comedian.
My mom just passed away today and this was one of her favorite songs
Ur mom is goated fr
This was such a banger back in the day.
Yeah, some music never goes out of date!
still is.
still is(2)
Still is wym
One of the best songs ever made.
I don't think a music video could be any more early 2000's than this
It lacks that weird cgi tho
*even weirder
Right
Ong i love thiss
This came out the mid 2000s
I sang it yesterday with my choirs. I think this song will be forever in my heart for all the good vibes it brings to me
Bro just a week ago I played this in drums
110 years and still going hard🔥🔥🔥
The main riff is so good!
I feel a strange wave of nostalgia. The bass guitar and electric guitar really hit the right spot in every angle of my ears 🥁🎸🎤🎼
“All dreams have a meaning”
My dreams:
You saw Archduke die in dream?
Lol
why is Anti-Franz beating up Franz? just getting clobbered out there in Dreamville
If this is your dream it means your fucking awesome
Lmao I needed this laugh right now. Was feeling kinda down. Thanks man 🤣
