@Mr Spitsworth huh, I remember the room being very electric and sweaty. it was an early afternoon radio set so I expected it to be low energy and it was anything but.

It's funny how people say the Hives are not original while you can easily identify their sound when you hear a song passing by on the radio. You know what's not original? Our mainstream popular music which copies itself over and over.
No one is entirely original. That is impossible and doesn´t make sense. But they built something strong that you can recognize from all the pieces they take from others. The Stones started doing covers before putting out their own stuff. I think it was better that way. Nowadays some magazines and critics call "genius" to any album that sounds a little weird and that's it. But that makes the bands too loose and awful. I don't think many of the so-called masterpieces of today will be seen with the same eyes in the future. This time will be remembered as the one with the highest number of self-proclaimed geniuses per capita in history.
I remember the first time they came to Argentina (sadly, they've only came twice) Pelle sida "we are the Maradona's of rock bands". Best line ever delivered by any foreing band here
The Hives - Full Performance (Live on KEXP) 20.1.24 surprised the channel hasn't dug someone out of a hole, real or imagined, to have some anonymous dudes play as the residents intended.... the fucking residents was a band which inhaled the whole of peru....
The Hives - Full Performance (Live on KEXP) 19.1.24 could be the 20th by now, though. cryptic crop shindigs. they merely slaked the balls as in optics, eye balls...
These guys amaze me, every live i see and every song i hear makes me love them eaven mmore, is such a pitty that they are so underrated, they are amazing live and pelle is a hella of a showman live and their music is simply perfect.
Well they were recording at the studio of a musicstore called Tym Guitars, during the off days while supporting AC/DC in Australia. That's all I know ;) Cheers Rob

Gabriel Tavares I usually take my nine year old son to concerts. Only if he wants and always with hearing protectors. Great time together. Last one, Walter Salas-Humara in Bilbao.
Jees, a series of Swedish hardcore grafters. Given a gig an and they'll deliver. Every single time. I've seen them live more than once. At Brixton they were awesome. Are they original? Not a huge amount, but it ain't what's it's all about, is it. Love 'em.
Something is wrong with his microphone... at first I thought it is still turned off, but maybe it is too quiet because the others sound much louder... weird o.O
Still one of my favorite bands and they wail just as much as they ever had. The whole Hives/Vines thing back in the day was laughable. Hives>Vines forever
This is a perfect example of how every musician should act, BE ACE AND HAVE A BLOODY GOOD TIME
yeah but not being original at all
Go to a Hives gig and come back and tell us you didnt have a FUCKEN GREAT TIME. Then we will listen to you.
Reminds me of how Eagles of Death Metal perform and in a good way.
I was recently able to catch The Hives in San Diego, was fantastic.
Can't believe I was there. Even though it was only a 30 minute radio session, I think it might be the best live performance I've ever seen.
@Mr Spitsworth huh, I remember the room being very electric and sweaty. it was an early afternoon radio set so I expected it to be low energy and it was anything but.

such a underrated band

Emil Magnusson by them who are not in the know.

Well. You took the words out of my mouth.
Their antics kind of remind me of The Damned, but aside from that, they're pretty original and as you say, identifiable sound of their own.
In any case originality is over-rated. Who cares?
I mean this is kinda a copy of Stooges, MC5 and The Damned but ok

To deliver a show like this, obviously early in the day, worldclass! I would have thought this was at a club after midnight.
That was a great performance! I hope they are still touring. I need to experience that.
Update, I saw them 2 nights ago, 5/18/19.
Well worth the wait. Pelle can work a crowd like no one else I have seen. 110% output from the whole band!
They are back touring Europe and US this winter :)

Why am I always too late with appreciating and discovering bands?
You and me both!
2019, and I am still bouncing
I love this comment a whole bunch. 😄
Can you imagine their dry cleaning bills while on tour?
Great show, great act.
Their dry cleaning bills are $0. I know, I was in the front row multiple times on their most recent tour lol.

I Saw the hives in 2014 at personal fest, the energy in the show was amazing and special. Cheers from argentina🇦🇷
That's the greatest half hour set I've seen in decades, what a hot shit band!
There is no better front. There is no band that brings more fun. Joyous!
That bit where the mic is chucked back onstage without a missed beat from the band is total rock n roll.
Time for a new Album :)
+Louis Dega Have you heard anything about it yet? I've been looking everywhere for news and can't find a thing.
+Ryan Quigley Unfortunately no, but nevertheless i will see them at the Hurricane Festival this year....maybe they will play new songs :)

They rip off everything from the late 50's through to the 80's, mash it up and spit it out with a large dose of attitude. A truly great live band!

Something is wrong with his microphone... at first I thought it is still turned off, but maybe it is too quiet because the others sound much louder... weird o.O
Jana Hansmann what do you mean with that?
She means the Vocals are swimming in the mix and drowning. The vocal sound on Hate to say (my fave) was very poor.
Yeah.. it's the first time I see KEXP failing at this. Such a shame it was with The Hives. Pelle had the mic at his chin sometimes though..
I thought it sounded just fine. Like the instrumentals are slightly louder, but the vocals still cut through.
My thumbs come up to you portland!
