Hey Jon, how are you pal? Hope all is going well into the new year. Great video about teaching the first step into learning how to dj. I'm a dj myself, been djing 29 years and back then there were no dj schools and had to learn from other dj friends and I would watch them dj at the clubs. And then I would go home and practice in my bedroom. But recently I had a mild stroke back in May of 2018, I had to put my djing career on hold to recover from my stroke and nowadays I'm still recovering but recovered enough that I can start djing again but slowly. Nowadays, I just feel like I don't have that djing feeling anymore. I guess it's from the stroke and still healing. wow, never realize how the stroke recovery process can be quite lengthy. Anyway, I still love music and I am trying to get back into game and I won't give up because this is all I know. I can't see myself doing something else.
Beatmatching with this Denon DJ equipment is sooooooo simple. In my day there were only turntables and a mixer without treble mids and lowers. That's it. That was still really connected with work ... and today ...... In terms of beatmatching the things are almost on their own ..... Do not get me wrong, I like today's technology too, above all things you are more versatile and can use its creativity even more. This is great ^^ Best example: the controller of Roland DJ 808 ... a powerful tool! This unit combines DJing with drum machine and voice vocoder with on-the-fly function. An insane device because beatmatching really does not matter anymore because all of this is controlled by Serato software but the DJ 808 is still a stand alone controller ... and the best that is from the price / performance ratio of what it does to performance is the bright madness .. .and is thus unrivaled at the moment. Back to basics: People should if they want to be good dj's first on quartz controlled turntables the a b c starting with beatmatching learning.

Sorry for all the questions bro ! See this! Right the left wave should show EQ for the track on the left deck and the right for right deck yeah? Did do this, now it just has an overall EQ, so the EQ in both bars is the same. Did you know how to fix this ?
I went to a cosy small club where the DJ used vinyl records. I like that sound of vinyl. And yes, it’s definitely hard to DJ with vinyl the guy who performed made some little mistakes once and a while but hey, it’s vinyl!
Do NOT put songs to the same bpm when you're trying to learn beat matching. No affront, but beatmatching within the same bpm is only half of real beat matching. What if the software gets the bpm wrong (possible on some breakbeat songs for example) and you don't know what to do? Would love to see some tutorials on those turntables Jon :)
I agree but As I said that’s something for later. Most people starting get frustrated very fast trying to find the tempo. I think first doing it this way is easier and more rewarding and keeps people from quitting after the first lesson

DJadan4u not following you here...how else are you going to lock in a tight mix? I mean, it’s 2019 and there’s a reason why they’ve introduced a display that shows the BPM for matching with the pitch function. I’d even go as far as showing midi locking so you can use an external controller like a Maschine Jam. I know you got to learn about the jog wheel to adjust the beat, but you still have to start with matching the tempo, unless you want to do some really funky mixing. Too many purists are trying to over complicate this technique, but I like Jon’s simple approach; gives the starting DJ the option to learn about more complicated things such as cue point matching and proper use of effects. One other thing I’d add is cutting the lows from the second beat, then bring it in after it’s been mixed.
when you are preparing your tracks and setting hotcues just check the beatgrid and bpm and adjust if needed

I think teaching to "ride the pitch" is a good second lesson for beatmatching, as it helps explain "what to do when you cannot get a reliable BPM readout". When I was learning about beatmatching, this is what was available at the time: ua-cam.com/video/iDrnPP3AxRs/v-deo.html
Depends, think it would be ok to keep the matched bpm as not to confuse the audience. Unless you want to up the beat to buildup your set to a higher energy.

Oh god, don't get the 8000. I've had mine for the past 6 months and it has never once worked properly... first my library wouldn't load, then the hotcues, then it couldn't read my USBs. I was actually talking to Denon support today as a matter of fact. They can never seem to resolve problems with the mcx. Literally today, Denon DJ teased their new Prime all-in-one, which will be released soon. I am a huge fan of Denon and the SC5000s, but the MCX is a total screw-up on their behalf. Show how to beatmatch with some old cd`s in cdj`s. They wil not stay in beat for ever, since they are not perfect quantized. That will be a good lesson for those who want to learn this :)
I have an idea for a video that I'd like to see if you think its worth the time. In regards to club standards and CDJ units: When I opened this video I noticed that you are using Denon's. Could you do a video on differences between these and the Pioneer units? IE: what if someone who uses Denon's walks into a club with Pioneer CDJ's for a gig. Is there backwards compatibility with a USB thumb drive? If you export tracks with Rekordbox can you plug it into a Denon CDJ and have it read all your cue points etc? In other words is there a standard both Denon and Pioneer follow to ensure backwards compatibility? Just a thought.
What we did was(and is) to link songs using a drum break that would slow or speed up...I was making custom tapes for the band live shows rehearsals well over 35 years ago between 3 tape recorders mixing and looping song's, imagine that... musos can learn a lot from DJs and vice-versa...when will cooperation happen? By the way, I go different diskos every week I live in a Disko city, I am accustomed to the current fashions.

I think that beatmatching is essential for a dj, but as you said, many newcome djs just hit the sync button and thats it.... is very dissapointing and boring to hear a very "clean" dj set, dont get me wrong, obviously a perfect dj set without mixing errors os what a dj trying to do, but sometimes for the crowd is like "he's not mixing", "its a prerecorded set" ... The better you can do it, the better dj you will be 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just got a new set of CDJ 900 Nexus' as an upgrade from my old CDJ-2000's. I noticed the Master/Sync buttons and I gave it a try and was surprised as how well it works. There are many reasons why I would not use it however: I like to be in control and I'm used to matching beats so it kind of throws me off my game when it becomes automated. I can see many reasons that the sync button would come in handy as well though.
@@ZacharySound Of course, the sync button has many useful tips and uses, but when it becomes the only way for mixing theres is and issue.... if you feel safe using it, go ahead... the better you play, the better crowd can enjoy it 👍🏻
i have serious problem i want to dj a birthday party bot most of the persian songs are between 130&140 bps we have some mazandaranian songs wiche are 152 or 165 bps i have no idea to fill the gap and its on 12 feb somebody help me 😂
No....Basically what I do is 1.Load a song 2.Play it 3.2nd song...Presa sync or do it manually 4.Switch songs 5.Slowly bring bpm back to normal 6.Adjust everytime there's a new song on each deck...
I don't realise how to figure out the direction to push the platter in...forward or backward?....how do I know whether the song is lagging or leading with respect to the other or does the direction not matter?
Hahaha know what you mean mate.. Been trying to teach myself how to mix 90's sh*t for a couple years now.. Been mixing on an 18 year old pioneer CMX 3000 so can even see the BPM on the display and still find it tricky! Old skool is the way forward! I F**ckin' Love it! Peace! :)
Most dance music is just fadez 30 sec build up fucking ridiculous like hardstyle Thats why i love to mix techno And beatmatching isnt that hard if u know how to I learned it with software and later on turntables and the nice thing was you can start mixing and beatmatching at the same time just play with the pitch while mixing But if you want every mix as smooth as possible you should beatmatch before mixing
Enjoying this channel. There are many videos out there on beat matching but its never a bad idea to continue to emphasize the fundamentals of what a DJ does. I always like to find out how others learn to beat match and this reminded me of how learned it. The way that I taught myself beat matching was a very classic method (started on vinyl). I took two of the same records (Mike Vandenberg - Spooky ua-cam.com/video/WlLAsRija7Y/v-deo.html). I spent several hours paying and mixing them together. I would purposely change the pitch to push one out of sync to train wreck to force myself to learn to pitch control to put them back in sync. This track in particular I thought was a very good to practice with since it has a lot of drum taps in between beats that can throw you off if you aren't listening carefully enough. Mastering this gave me a lot of confidence and it also taught me how to save a track running out of sync very quickly with the pitch control. I did not touch the platter at all mind you when using this method.
You can start at any time man. If it’s something you want to try out, give it a shot! Look into a cheap controller such as a DDJ-400, and learn the basics!

CDJ can be used without laptop. Only hiphop DJ uses laptop

Make two song on the same BPM. Does that mean all the song that you're going to play will be on the same tempo?

I think that's the thing you learn when you learn to beat match. If you hear which is faster, you know how to adjust. Practice, practice, practice.

how will you beatmatch 128 and 112 or something between 100 to 120 with the 125 to 130 range,are you gonna just use sync 😂😂😂
