    My brother just had his first show as a rapper yesterday and I was the emergency dj. We just put together a playlist for him to rap over but I really enjoyed it and want to continue to help him out in the future. I'm not very musically inclined but I will do my best.

    Thank you so much for the tutorial, it's very useful, today is my 2nd day on DJ School but I didn't get it, my instructor didn't tell me about this why I should doing this or that or just me who didn't get it, after watching this video now I know what I'm doing. Usually I use midi player to create some music but sometimes I need to feel the energy that's why I'm learning DJ-ing it's very interesting.

    Hi Jon! Liked and Subscribed!
    I’m originally a piano player and now I’m 45 years old and discovering the electronic scene! Bought a midi keyboard, ableton live, starting to produce some dance/techno tracks... next step, play my track in front of people so I need to learn basics of DJing. I’ll start with little people, private parties, some friends parties... then we will see!!!! 😂😂
    Thanks for sharing your experience here! Beats gods be with you man! 👍🏻

    the art of djing is with vinyl. you have to keep the records at the same speed as well as mixing. watching a vinyl dj work when i was younger was just awesome in the clubs . nowadays they just push buttons and the djs are hidden somewhere high up with nothing to watch. learn to dj on vinyl first.

    •  5 років тому +1

      So true!!! Knowing the BPM’s is not beat matching that’s called lining the beats up any dummy can do that! Vinyl will always be king for real dj’s not ones who play silly effects to mask there terrible mix’s!!! Ppl need to do there dj apprenticeship on vinyl before being classed a REAL dj!!!

    I havent dj'd in 8 years, so the last time I dj'd we still used technics 1200's and the very first cdj's had just hit the scene. I had a gig last weekend and was lost when I stepped up to these things, so here I am a seasoned veteran trying to learn this over complicated new style of djing :)

    • @Rzn8B58
      @Rzn8B58 5 років тому

      @Columbo I ended up learning in a hour lol. The only thing that was strange to me was that 1 side can mimic the other side so, you can play side 1 on side 2 and vice versa. Not sure why this is a feature, but it's there. Im gonna pick up the phase dvs and rock the 1200's again.

    It's kind of a dream of mine to be a touring DJ. Everyone I know in my circle is a square corporate 9-5 professional working person. Because my personality doesn't fit well within those rigid structures, I need an artistic, freeing hobby/passion. I don't know where to start, but I have about $15k from previous jobs and a bunch of time. I want to invest in some basic equip and software.

    • @hyprlit3b0arder

      15k?! Get yourself started for 5k save the 10k for travel/self promotion.
      In hind sight, when I had that type of opportunity, I would have gotten/kept my equipment, saved a chunk of $ and practice, practice, practice, until I was able to book gigs then, save the 10k for the point in time that I’m ready to travel/play music.
      Now that I know, I am doing that now :p.

    Very nice video thank you, please can you into more detail on how to actually transition two tracks, using the EQ'S. Maybe even a video on just this would be absolutely amazing. Please keep the videos coming as they help many people new to the hobby, (like me ) it's a art that needs as much help by more the experienced.

    I agree with Jon saying that sync does everything for you. Using sync literally takes away the part of being a DJ, a musician.

    Since when has Djing meant taking music and changing it to please a crowd? Maybe that's how young dj's see it. In it's most simple form you can just play the original tracks, you don't have to change them. Room full of people and you just play them music to get them jumping or put a smile on their face. That's the meaning of DJing. From early radio to the first people to play records in a local village hall...to weddings and birthdays. One record after another, no fkn with them. I may sound old. But new DJ's should learn the complete basic history before they touch any equipment.
    Having said that, this is a great beginners turorial.

      I don't mean to be as much of a dick as I am going to sound like....but you sound boring. Playing a record back to back and not altering or mixing is just playing music. DJing is mixing those songs together, adding effects, changing things.

    • @kimrunic5874
      @kimrunic5874 6 років тому +3

      Mixing/blending yes of course. Eq em in and out. Adding effects? Never sounds much good in my opinion - it's all about selection and flow. Sounds simple but you so rarely hear someone do it really well.

      This is all for more EDM purposes then it is for a DJ that wants to just play a track and then a other one. If that was the case he wouldn’t have that set up he would be using a simple 2 channel mixer

    Hi Jon, that was really helpful. Thanks. I'm as new to DJing as anyone can be, I have no experience in the art, but my love for it and curiosity has no bounds. For the moment i have no hardware (Mixer/CDJ) with me (no funds yet) except my laptop and a MIXX software. Could you maybe advice me on how I should go about gaining more insights and practicing on it?

    Can You please make a video about phrase mixing? Because i believe this is the most common and most needed type of mixing in the club. The problem i have is i don't understand how to know when to start a new track to match phrases together, because every song has different length of phrases and you can't apply the same strategy everytime. I mean most of the time the rule of a thumb is to start a new song on the old ones 8 bar beginning (one the one), but sometimes the drop or the outro can be way longer or way shorter and you won't match the phrases correctly. So as far as i understand the only real way to be able to match phrases perfectly is eather to have cue points set to show you where to start a new song on the old song's wave form or to know them perfectly in your head? I hope the question makes sense. Thank You

    • @Jonsine
      @Jonsine  5 років тому +1

      Yes you can only know them, look at the waveform if you player let’s you do that or cue points. Worst case loop the song that ends to extend it.
