  • Great Progress converting my Mustang GT to AWD. In this video I go over the steps to create the 2nd and final version of the adapter that mounts to transfer case to the back of the TR6060 /T56 Magnum. The goal is to make a R32 GTR style transmission with a built in variable torque split transfer case. The BW 4440 transfer case has a variable torque split clutch.

    At first I was thinking that the cross bolted fixture was unnecessary, but with that there the main fasteners are left to do what they're designed to do, which is clamp the mount to the plate. The fixture keeps any fore and aft movement under control. I'm not sure how much of that there will be but I'm sure it's not going to be small considering the amount of torque a turbo Coyote can put out, especially with a manual and the dynamic loading involved during shifts. Very cool. As I dive back through these build videos I'm increasingly impressed with your engineering skill and attention to detail on the build. Nice work.

    Just found your build recently and watching all the videos leading up to the finish. I love this, I’ve always wanted to build an AWD Mustang and now more than ever :)

    Spectacular bit of craftsmanship!! Your “slow and steady wins the race” comment perfectly describes your build! Great stuff!!! Can’t wait to see that thing rip!

    I agree that Ford should really consider making an AWD Mustang with a prodigious amount of power and market it as an American GT-R. Unfortunately, they would have to be willing to invest more into the electronics of the transmission, limited slip differentials, ABS system, ESS, and suspension than they currently do. That's kind of what makes the GT-R so legendary. Every generation of the GT-R has been an absolute tech showcase. To compound the difficulty, as you're probably finding out, the Coyote motor is very wide and takes up a lot of space, so working around it is a bit of a nuisance.
    Very cool project, I hope everything ends up working out well and you can get an ECU that can handle controlling the electronic transfer case using input from the ESS system to vary the power delivery between the front and rear wheels.

    Nice to watch! Having done similar to my BMW E30 with a DCT transmission + 4wd i recognize some of the issues you have to solve :)

      Do you have any videos or a build thread? It sounds like an awesome project. I VERY seriously considered making an AWD E46 M3.

    I love this video and this entire idea, I have alot of questions for you as I'm going to try and start a page up soon. I wanted to know just how intensive would it be to try and adapt this 6060 to a regular bw4411/4410
    I am a lucky owner of an 02 explorer 5spd manual but even the manual ex is pretty garbage for a small truck, I've been gathering supplies to do a 4v modular swap from an aviator but am trying so hard to keep my transfer case in tact for ease of install

      I would talk to Rockland Standard Gear.

      This sounds like a really cool project. I had a stick 4.0 Ranger many years and loved. I wanted to do a V8, but never had the time.

      Thank you for the quick reply man! I'm stoked to see this project more and more and hopefully someone can get me some sort of solution to mating this thing up
      , Once I get more free time I'm gonna start posting what I have so far and hopefully, those vids will eventually be on par with your work

    Did you get this to a point of production? I would be highly interested in purchasing one. This is a great alternative to other options.

      I have received quite a few requests for parts. Basically, I am not going to consider making parts for others until my car is on the road and proven out.
      Your idea for a project is awesome. I did a lot of research and soul searching before starting the Mustang. I knew I wanted to make a boosted manual V8 AWD car, but I considered a few options before coming back full circle to a Mustang. I seriously considered a Challenger for the simple fact that one could use the factory AWD front suspension. The front differential may be an issue since there are no gear ratios available that I know of that would work with a manual transmission.
      Keep watching and we will see what happens once I get it on the wheels.

      Challenger 9" rear swap
      3.07 rear gears

      Front differential (3.07)

    • @npvg
      @npvg  Рік тому

      Yes, you can get a matching front rear 3.07 diff, what I am saying is that a 3.07 diff with the TR6060 gear ratios is not a good combo.
      The front diff is the same as several Mercedes models and it looks like the GLK has a 3.67 option, you could get the front and rear from one of those. Maybe there are others in the MB world, I did not research to deep.

    What controller are you using for the transfer case?

    • @npvg
      @npvg  Рік тому +1

      The T-case uses a simple PWM control, there are several that will work, but I am looking at something like this or similar.
