I don't think it's that hard but I was still impressed how amazing she sounds. I am used to the cast album and still this one-take live version sounds so much better!
Hairspray only ran for It ran for 2,642 performances. Given that she didn't tour with the show, your assertion that she performed the role more than 4000 times is a fallacy. She gave just north of 1000 performances as Tracy
Can I just say if you are making fun of her singing the "oh oh oh" letting you now it's not suppose to sound like "O" it's suppose to sound like "eh" till the last one. So think about that.
I went to see my daughter in her school play HAIRSPRAY THIS YEAR.......IF HER SCHOOL DID ADVERTS THEN THEY'D PROBABLY BE THE BEST IN THE WORLD......ALL HALLOWS RC H.S .........BRILLIANT BY FAR...AS FOR THE CHOREOGRAPHY.....2ND TO NONE
First of all, excuse me about my english, I'm mexican so I'm not really good in this language. Well, I have many Hairspray versions, all of them are in the same key. I supose the tune and rythm was modified for the film, as is common in the films about musicals to print some difference to make it attractive to audience. Anyway, I enjoy Hairspray.
Is that Shannon Durig playing Tracy? I saw her performance on UA-cam with Blake Hammond, Aaron Tevit, Diana DeGarmo, Darlene Love and Tevin Campbell last month. She's a really good Tracy
I love all broadway musicals :) this one is so funny and cute :) i perform with Stagelight Family Production/ Whittier Community Center Theatre its lots of fun:) they always do musical theatre :)
this show would not be the same as its suppsoed to be if tracy didn't have big hair. its suppsoed to be that way. personally, i think the movie didnt stick to her tracys hair height too well
This is one of my dream shows to do lighting design for. I was screaming the entire time lol. Where is her bedroom? Why didn't she get out of bed earlier in the song to get ready for the day? Why does it sound like there is a chorus behind her when it's supposed to be her talking to herself then the ensemble joins once the room successfully turns into Baltimore? Why were the background set pieces so late? They should swivel on along with the oooooo's of the ensemble after "I've got my hairspray and radio, I'm ready to go-" *bam* lights get warmer but low-ish so there can be gentle lighting NOT SPOTLIGHT on Tracey while the set behind her turns into Baltimore. That looked SO bad- I heard rumors I'll be working on Hairspray next year and I just hope that it goes much better than this. This isn't "classic" broadway, you don't need to wait to put set on or transition lighting, the "feet tell you GO!" I understand that this is the general setup for many Hairspray shows, it it's so so flawed to me...
yeah, but movie is still better. the casting (i love Jonathan Dokuchitz tho), the dances etc. Some might reason out that it's hard to sing while dancing or dance after singing or vice versa. But damn, they should see legally blonde the musical.
People in the comments should keep in mind live theater plays much more loosely with the age of actors- some suspension of disbelief by audiences is expected
M.E. Adams I agree, I personally don't think her voice was made for specific parts of songs. Like she could have done the "oh, oh, oh" lower pitched but hey, that's just my opinion
Singing in musical theatre is not only about having a good voice, it's about playing a character. If by "sucked" you mean the way she sings whiny, than in sorry you don't understand. She does not suck
It is very difficult to sing this song. Its easy to lose control of your vocals and strain your voice. This song is very tiring. She did a great job!
I know right! I'm still trying to learn this version but I can't sing the chorus without drifting off-key. This girl sung it very well!
AneyLeos2007 yea cause she singing for 2 hours every day every week!! So well spoken!
AneyLeos2007 in know right! Like there is not many high notes or long notes, but you need to have a lot if control
AneyLeos2007 i’m doing this song for my audition
welp is singing this song for a school performance thx for the confidence boost 😪
This is one of my favorite opening for a musical. It just gives you a feel of the main character and setting with this song.
oh my god you guys from legally blonde the musical…
The rats in the street all dance round my feet. They seem to say, "Tracy, it's up to you!" Love this song!
It's extremely difficult to sing live.
Nikki Blonsky's version is done in studio.
+Veo 16 Tell me about it! And a newcomer will have to sing live for NBC this December when they present Hairspray.
Veo 16 I've sang the song and I was told I did good 😐
Manuel Orozco SHE WAS AMAZING!!!💙💙💙
I don't think it's that hard but I was still impressed how amazing she sounds. I am used to the cast album and still this one-take live version sounds so much better!
Veo 16 no it wasn’t I was Nikki’s sound assistant she sang that song live
I really like her interpretation of Tracy! :)
+MistaAustin Me too! All Tracys have their own interpretation
The one and only original 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Shannon Durig was the best Tracy on Broadway. And she performed it over 4000 times!
Ann McCroskey this I'd Shannon Durig?

@@chrisjacobs7417 You are correct. It wasn't 4000. Just asked her, myself. It was 1200.
Ok but that whistle tone at “the RATS” is just so good
Her hair is like her voice... EVERYTHING!!!!!
This is probably the best cast of Hairspray ever.
Can I just say if you are making fun of her singing the "oh oh oh" letting you now it's not suppose to sound like "O" it's suppose to sound like "eh" till the last one. So think about that.
Jack Klein yeah, they're supposed to be accented staccatos. The movie version made them like a little longer
the movie and the professional stage version are great in their own seperate ways.
Hand's down, my favorite Tracy!

Shannon is awesome. Period.
Love the way she says "The Rats"
People saying the movies better have no knowledge of musical theatre because this performance is amazing af'
The movie sucked.
Movies are over dubbed .. she’s singing live..people don’t understand
It's still up there as the best modern movie musical
I am auditioning for Hairspray at the Lights in Andover. I am really nervoud but I know EVERY LYRIC TO EVERY SONG. I WILL do this though.
Did you get the role????
1:46- The Rats
This makes me laugh every time

I think she looks a little old to be Tracy but phenomenal anyways
Jordan Nicole she is like 20
@@Social_magazine yeah but in the movie tracy is played by a 5 week old fetus
Is that Shannon Durig playing Tracy? I saw her performance on UA-cam with Blake Hammond, Aaron Tevit, Diana DeGarmo, Darlene Love and Tevin Campbell last month. She's a really good Tracy
i saw her twice and she was SO good!!
Am i the only one who hears "Baltimore" as "Voldemort"?
No, cause I hear it now
Now I do🤦🏽♂️😂😂
It’s he who shall not be named 🤦♀️ (joke)
ME TOO LOL
She's singing a love song Voldemort 😂😅

I ADORE SHANNON DURIG!!!!
I love all broadway musicals :) this one is so funny and cute :) i perform with Stagelight Family Production/ Whittier Community Center Theatre its lots of fun:) they always do musical theatre :)
bro I feel tired just watching her wtf she'so good T^T I hope I can be like her too
Do you have the entire show? This is my absolute favorite bootleg of Hairspray and I can't find it anywhere
this show would not be the same as its suppsoed to be if tracy didn't have big hair. its suppsoed to be that way. personally, i think the movie didnt stick to her tracys hair height too well

she is my fav tracy, marissa is a close second.
Keala SETTLE, Katrina Didrekson, Marissa Winokur are just a few of my fave Tracy Turnblad's I played opposite on Broadway and the Road !
The RATS- on the street.
Pronounce everything very clearly!! Awesone:)
@taylorific1098 I played in the pit for my school production of Hairspray, and it was in this key.
@taylorific1098 The film was modified to be in a higher key for Nicki Blonsky's vocal range.
ItsMrBucket yeah. This is in D major I believe and the movie is in E major.
The *rAaaAaaAts*
Who sings this version?
Does anyone have the full show, if so please post it or send it to me.
It’s on UA-cam as hairspray Broadway 2006
My lord, Shannon Durig is my 3rd favorite Tracy Turnblad :)
yeah, but movie is still better. the casting (i love Jonathan Dokuchitz tho), the dances etc. Some might reason out that it's hard to sing while dancing or dance after singing or vice versa. But damn, they should see legally blonde the musical.
Honestly I really did not like Marissa Winokur with when she Said ew ew ew instead of oh oh oh.This one did awsome
Can someone upload the full show or both acts again
It’s on UA-cam
amazing!
What year was this version of the show???
2006
She's better then Marissa Jaret Winokour.
I saw this performance at a high school today it was pretty good but not as good as the original
u shouldnt judge unless u HAVE seen it u cant tell just from videos like this
It needs to go up a key or 2...
Do you have the full show?
I really wanna see it because I love her performance :3 I can even trade
@@Broadwaydude-jf2jr it’s on UA-cam
Amazing!
I've seen it in a movie but not in a play.
they are played by older people, like most leads on broadway. like in their late 20s or so.
Love it .but shes emphasising oh oh oh too much :/ 00:55 what are you a robot?
Tracy is supposed to be a bit of a strange girl - I think it's adorkable!
It was directed that way ....
If you want to criticize it then let me see you do something like that cause that's a lot of hard work it's brodway
Sophia Greene Broadway stupid auto correct
Chris L they're supposed to be staccatos.
Favorite tracy❤
People in the comments should keep in mind live theater plays much more loosely with the age of actors- some suspension of disbelief by audiences is expected
THE RATS 🐀 🤣
She sounds like me
i feel like most broadway tracy's just look too old...
haha, yeah. me too. lol
i agree to that
aeh aeh aeh!
Sounds way too country in the beginning and the “oh-oh-oh” should not sound like a goo goo ga ga baby but other than that pretty good
Shannon Durig
she is a little bit skinny for Tracy
I love Baltimore. and I hate her but so cute^^
This is not Broadway
Yes, it is.
Her hair is TOO BIG. But I liked her performance.
movie is WAY better! i cant believe i wanted to see this! thank god i did not pay for it or go!
M.E. Adams I agree, I personally don't think her voice was made for specific parts of songs. Like she could have done the "oh, oh, oh" lower pitched but hey, that's just my opinion
Im sorry but this sucks. Lol be prepared for haters

Ew, she looks to old. I like other versions better, she sounds like to short to.. not rite.
