It's a paraphrase of the Confiteor, which we recite as a form of penance. The hooded figures recite the "Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" part which I think is totally appropriate.
Ah, thank you. It's been a while. After watching again with clear sound I think my opinion still stands. They are both still fantastic versions of the same song.
You don't speak French obviously. They had to use a lot of different words and expressions keeping the meaning of the original English version. And the French version flows so much better than the English one.
Evil guy singing (forget his name; don't feel like looking it up) Hellfire sounds better in English but the Hunchback's part of the song sounds great. It's not bad. I just prefer the emphasis in English vs the emphasis in French. I'm also watching on lowered volume in a college library though so maybe if I watch it normally my opinion will change.
If a better VA was used for Frollo, with a more robust vocal background this could have outdone the English dub. I get the feeling that wasn't his strong suit.
I agree with you. In French it sounds as though it's supposed to be in English they've just changed the language, the words don't fit the tune as well in French. :(
I cried when Quasimodo sang. His voice is so beautiful in French.
The songer is Francis Lalane. Yes Sir.
Always is pretty cool to hear the French version of a timeless French tale
I clicked on this by accident but had to listen to the whole thing cos his voice is so beautiful
It's cool to listen to this in the language they really speak where this takes place.
Greatest Disney villain ever
I like it when the priests chant.

Wonderful emotions in this language! It sounds amazing! ♥

I remember watching this in class and the said this movie is Jayla’s Movie
Heaven's Light sounds amazing in French. I never liked Hellfire much in French though.

The evil guy is judge Claude Frollo

Frollo is his name. :D
I like Frollo's voice better in French....
Frollo's french cousin! 8D
FROLLO IS the French cousin
i can'tXDDDDDDD
Compare that to Be Our Guest in French, which sounds perfect. Maybe they didn't have the same translators?
I dunno, Hellfire sounds pretty awesome in Greek. Which is weird
I agree with you.

They don't use translators! If you translate a song keeping the exact same words and expressions, it will make no sense.
Proud to be french 🇫🇷
