I also was not a fan of the recent Boss Re-201 pedals. Anyone who knows about Dub Reggae, knows the importance of a space echo... The character of the saturation breaks up / feedback is crucially important. If you have the capability of setting the feedback to zero, and feed the galaxy back into itself; it's perfect. The Galaxy really hits the saturation on the head when it comes to the original space echo. My Strymon El Cap was lacking in that department, the saturation felt dull and lifeless. I love the Strymon for other things, like the way they implemented the tape bias and tape age is perfection. So I will keep both the galaxy and Strymon. At some point I want to chain the galaxy and El cap and see what happens. Thanks for making a quality video! Really nice to see you using a synth for your demo. Subscribed!
Sold my Boss Space Echo pedal (new one) the day UA released the Galaxy 74. Wished the input drive could also apply to the dry signal via the iOS app, similar to the Starlight.
For the price the ndd-7 is still awesome. I would personally go for a used el cap v1 or save up for the galaxy though. This is especially true if you plan on using a tape echo in multi head mode and not just one head. I feel the ndd7 is great in single head but does not hold up as well when more than one head are used. That said though the ndd7 is still better than a re2 or 202 unless you need stereo in.
Hey Yuki, I watch all your effects pedal video's so I think your un a great place to give advice. Do you think the Roland RE-202 is up there with the El Captian V2?
actually just read a thread by UAD that it's intentional, because they are acting as 2 individual echo's drifting in and out of time with each other.. clearly no-one is happy with this, so they should fix it or add a time delay between the 2 so it doesn't randomly go mono/stereo
Nope, I’m no longer covering stuff from them as they don’t really care about the end user. I have contacted them about it and they did nothing. Others complained as well.
If I read a different comment in this thread correctly, the random/weird switching from stereo to mono only occurs when you have a mono input? Hoping to confirm this would not happen if you had it in a stereo effects chain
One more question: what’s the deal with the Boss RE-202? Curious what you didn’t like about it. I didn’t have a chance to play it but I found that the build quality seemed very cheap with a really plastic feel to it.
9:12 You must have a defective unit. There's just no way a company with UA's knowledge base would design an ambiance pedal that randomly switches from stereo to mono. I keep hearing it do what you're talking about (random stereo), and that can't be on purpose. There must be a bug in the code, or else some kind of an electrical fault with yours. Until they fix that, it's pretty, but almost useless in stereo. Thanks for the heads up. I was interested in the channel strip pedal first... hopefully it doesn't have the same issue.
Like at 15:39 for example, that's such a small sound when it's shrank to mono like that. I actually DO have a use for that type of sound, but I don't need an expensive pedal to do it, and certainly not randomly occurring.
For example, if you listen from 23:08, about 5 seconds later the stereo kicks in, without any settings being changed on the pedal. And the Golden is disengaged during that time, so the random stereo isn't being caused by that pedal.
It's intentional according to the manual as well as every other unit I have heard demoed does it as well unless stereo spread is added after the fact. I do hope it can be solved in software update though.
I thought the Galaxy pedal ran two independent "machines" per input; meaning left input is processed independently from right input. I only notice what you're describing when running the Galaxy as mono input to stereo output, where the tape age knob exaggerates the stereo width randomly to simulate tape wow/flutter.
@@arturflor Well the Space Echo is a tape machine, but the Volante does drum, tape, and the third mode is called studio, so yea, reel to reel. Also has reverb. Not Sure which tape machine its supposed to be modeled after.
fantastic use of the pedals and the organic wavestate-instruments 🥰

23:10 Golden Galaxy for my ears.
Fo you still recommend the Nux NDD-7 for a budget Space Echo? How does it stand against this one?

I think that Korg Wavestate sounds awesome
Wait, there was a section of dry signal? I missed that entirely. All I could hear was a synth drenched in FX like echo and reverb.
Great pedal but what were they thinking with the random stereo thing?.. ridiculous..
It is just so strange. I hope they add an option to disable it and have stereo spread at all times.

Thanks! I think the el cap v2 is a much better sounding pedal.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon Thanks for the fast reply and your advice. Cheers
are the stereo issues fixed yet? doesn't make any sense why they would intentional make it like that

I don’t remember it happening with stereo input. I have mostly just been using it mono recently.
Thanks for the reply and another ace demo. Appreciate you!

I can try it sometime soon in stereo to see.
I just never liked the sound. It did not sound anything like a real re201 while the galaxy in mono sounds pretty spot on.

If UA reads this - obviously I know this review is a snapshot in time, so I'll keep following the developments...

Can you explain why you didn't like the RE-202? Completely disagree that current Boss pedals suck, quite a hyperbolic statement IMO.
Would also like to know, since I think the RE-202 sounds more authentic to the original RE-201.
Wish the delay time was longer, but then it wouldn’t be a true emulation I guess
I agree, 2 seconds like the re series would be awesome.
I will never part with my Volante, this sounds great though.
Thought the Volante simulated an EP-3, Echorec, and reel-to-reel tape machine, not the Space Echo despite the multi-head feature.

nice pedal, thoughts on the Chase Bliss MOOD MKII
Instant Ambience pedal?
It's by far the best pedal Chase Bliss has put out and it is one of the best ambient pedals to date.
