- On this episode of MZ.KustomZ , Mark and Talon remove the gas engine from a Suzuki Samurai to make way for a Diesel Vw engine. (EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH DIESEL). We also tear apart a VW to get the engine out, with a skid steer! But don't worry! Mark was Gentle!

Why are all the other videos deleted? Did Google not like something? This is my next build and I’ve been bouncing all over YT and forums for info. Haha the knowledge grab. Curious, why did y’all go with that engine when the ALH in the next gen is convened as the best TDi VW made?
Compound turbos? Good luck! The samurai transmission wont hold up to the stock TDI for very long as is! The clutch is also going to be a slippy bastard even with a kevlar disk and a better pressure plate if you try to squeeze much more power out of the TDI. I can tell you from experience with these swaps that the best thing you can do is get a toyota transmission, toyota axles, and a toyota transfer case to put in that sammi if you want to run that much power. I'm building my third samurai right now with an AHU TDI, same motor you're running, and even though i'm keeping it at stock TDI power levels, i'm going with a sidekick transmission just because the sharp power pulses hammer the samurai transmission apart. the sidekick kit comes with a larger flywheel and clutch, and the sidekick transmission is stronger as well. One thing you can do is get back in touch with Jeff (you ordered the acme kit, i can see the radiator on the seat) and ask him about the hybrid flywheel. Its a tracker flywheel that's been modified to work with the samurai bell housing. Its got the tracker clutch, and a lot more mass to help with those power pulses.

Another thing to look in to if you decide to go with a tracker transmission is a doubler box called the Kicker 3. it takes a sidekick/tracker trans and t-case, removes the front output of the t-case, and then mates a samurai t-case behind it. The samurai transfer case will mount in the factory location on the stock mounts. so no need for a new transmission crossmember or drive shafts. it also gets around the issue of the samurai transfer case ripping out the rubber mounts. It gets the bigger clutch, beefier trans, strengthens the transfer case, and deep crawl ratios. there is a dude who sells a laser cut kit for 200 bucks out of canada. get on facebook and search "Samurai/Sidekick Dual T-case Kit" and his page will come up. the one thing it does do is move the engine forward about 5/8". I have not tried this setup yet with the acme radiator, so it might be a bit tight. it will fit if you go with a 1966 mustang v8 radiator. that will tuck down between the steering box and the frame rail and sit more vertical allowing the motor to move forward. the better option would to be to get a steering box from an IFS toyota pickup and mount it outside the frame rail, and then use a landrover 300tdi radiator. the only draw back to that is the additional fabrication as you have to relocate the front body mount, but its doable. you might be able to use a steering box from a nissan d21 hardbody, some of them had the sector shaft near the very front of the steering box which might give enough clearance to not need to fully chop the body mount. I'm not sure about that yet as i have not tried it and I cant find anyone else who has. Both steering boxes would allow for power steering though. If you have any questions, hit me up.
I swapped an AHU into my samurai years ago. I ran a sidekick/tracker 2wd transmission coupled to the samurai tcase for a while. The stock samurai transmission simply won't hold up to the torque as somebody else stated. I know of a guy that split his transmission open with just the 1.9 AAZ even. Still going to be a cool build! Even though I no longer have a TDI in it, and am going back to a gasser, I still enjoy watching other builds go down. Good content, can't wait to see the next video of it!
Why did you take the diesel out?
Because I sold it last year, the guy I sold it to kept all the drivetrain and gave me back the body and frame. It was cool, but it’s expensive, and I just don’t have the money to swap another one in. Perhaps down the road if the circumstances allow, I’ll do it again.

Looks fun! Im looking at a tdi swapped samurai currently that has wiring and body work issues "mainly rust on the body mounts" this will be a good follow for me if i decide to pull the trigger on it.
