  • This video is a step by step tutorial for making a boxed cushion cover. The covers can be easily removed for washing. I will show you how to measure to make a snug fitting cover with only one piece of fabric.
This isn’t a “no-sew” or a Velcro project. This is the real deal with a zipper!
Don’t be intimidated! Even if you’ve never sewn a zipper before you can do it! It’s really not that difficult. Follow every step and you’ll soon have an updated cushion. I made 6 for our vintage truck camper and we love them!
Here’s the math in case you didn’t catch it in the video.
Length plus depth plus 1 inch for seam allowance.
Width plus width plus depth plus depth plus 1 inch for seam allowance.
That will give you your final size to cut. Hope that makes sense!
Be careful if you have a directional fabric. Always prewash your fabric. Measure twice cut once. And if possible make a sample or trial to practice the first time! #seatcovers #sewing #diy

I was so nervous cutting the fabric as I bought it overseas so it was not replaceable. I had four cushions to make and followed this video step by step for each of them. They turned out perfectly! Other videos speeding through the process only make it daunting, stressful and confusing. Thank you so much for your clear, calm and precise instructions. I am thrilled!

it's easier to sew the zipper on before sewing the corners .... it makes it easier then you turn the cover inside out and sew the corners you'll have your cover boxed in ..

I have watched soooo many videos on how to make a box cushion and this is the only one that is clear and straightforward. I appreciate your time in explaining exactly how to make this cushion. I am not an expert sewer, but I have sewed for over 50 years, just simple projects. I am saving this tutorial and thankfully make the box cushions I have been needing. Thank you so much for making this video.

I got it first time.. In fact, just to make sure I followed... I paused and played several times.. Just a massively big thank you for helping me get my yoga cushions done for my client.. Hopefully she will be syked to see the effort I put it😎💐😇👏💚 thank you again.. Be blessed.. Keep doing the good works 💐🎊👍🙏👌💞

I've been sewing since I was 8 yrs. old. I am now 72. Oddly enough, I've never had occasion during all that time to make cushions with a box corner. I wanted to make new dining room chair cushions, but was lost when it came to making the box. I have to commend you on your easy instructions!! I made them all in about 30 minutes and they look wonderful. BTW, yours was the 4th UA-cam video I watched and the ONLY one that made sense to me and made me feel like I could do it. Thank you so much!

I spent quite a long time searching for video help, everything seemed so complicated and then suddenly......... ta dah!!!! So easy to follow and the results were AMAZING. I now know how to do it properly, thank you so much for making it so clear and for realising that not all home seamstresses are natural born wizards!!!

After I murdered the first cushion (it took me 2 hours to figure out how to put on a zipper foot 🤣) it was a disaster of epic proportions. I mis measured. Once that was cut off and I regrouped, 2 cushion came out beautifully! This was the best and simplest tutorial for a novice, not even novice, sewer like myself. Thank you!!!

I bought a futon couch for extra sleep space for guests. It's long and the legs are so short you feel like you're getting up off the floor every time you stand up. I decided to give it height by adding a 4" cushion. Got the foam, got the fabric, watched this video and now I have a cute futon cushion that "raises" my futon seat to a more normal height. Thanks for an easy to follow tutorial.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I watched this video numerous times. Then I watched it, paused it, completed a step, watched a little more, rewound, watched again, paused until I was finished with the first cushion. I'm making covers for dog beds custom sized to fit into crates for travel. I paid $25/yard for Sunbrella fabric on clearance so it would be durable and comfortable. I did not want to mess this up. Sewing is not my favorite thing. This video was perfect. I love how you encourage us through the video. You're so calm and easygoing about the process. This was the most clear explanation of how to measure and cut out the corners for the box corner. First time upholsterer here, so was really anxious about wrecking expensive fabric. I made mine without zips, as I was using heavyweight fire retardant sofa style fabric, and they won't be taken off to wash, so hand sewed the last side where the zipper would be. I've watched a lot of videos on making bench cushions so I can make one for my grandson. This is BY FAR the easiest one I've seen. I started one with a different method and wound up ripping the entire thing apart... even the zipper! This also looks like it can be done in a short amount of time. I will definitely use this method and TRY TRY AGAIN!! Thanks so much!

@@StehHiesher My grandson liked the first one so much he asked me to make another one. A hint for adding straps to corners. I made matching tie straps and will place them in the boxed corners as I sew them (I think, lol). On the last one I kinda faked the straps... to hard to explain, but they turned out okay! Thanks again for such an easy to follow video!

Your method is great. Because you cut the rectangles after you sew both sides, I could change it a little, so the stripes on the cushion matched. I also learned that it is not a problem if the measurements are a little bit smaller. The result was great, so thank you so much for this tutorial. I could not have done it without it! THANK YOU!

Hi, I'm a novice at sewing and have never done cushion covers before. Your tutorial was great, I followed your instructions and after 6 hrs and a lot of patience I managed to make a boat cushion cover. The next cushion took less than hour... 😆. But thank you...
I now have the confidence to try to update mycaravan cushions. 😊

love the one piece construction rather than cutting separate pieces for the sides, top and bottom edges. Can't wait to try it to recover the cushions in my RV.

In addition to loving the production value of this video (camera, editing, audio, music!) the presentation was so easy to follow. I am still a bit overwhelmed with all the details but like another viewer said, if I follow it step by step, maybe it will turn out just right. I also appreciate that "perfection" was not necessary. This was a joy to watch and now, wish me luck!

Great Tutorial.... for ease of putting the cover on the cushion, I put my cushion in a large plastic bag, the cover slides right on!! You can then take the bag off the cushion once the cover is on.

Your video was so fantastic, really FANTASTIC. I have found it difficult to find people like yourself who like to tackle jobs in their home, like sewing but don’t need or want to be professional with professional equipment and technical methods because having to learn the “ technical correct way” is too time consuming for our task, as it make be a one off! Your end result was perfect and your methods were just what I was looking for. Thank you so much, you were FANTASTIC 🌸
