@Xavier Koda I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I want to say a big thank you! I decided to try and re cover an old 2 seater couch which had been given to me, I watched and watched several of your videos and finally completed the re cover! I am so proud of myself and it looks fab (to me) so thank you for sharing all your knowledge xx
Hi Dorothy! Thank you so much for sharing, makes it all seem worth it!! Congrats on your recover - a 2 seater for a beginner is no mean feat, you definitely should be proud of yourself! 😊
Thank you so very much. I've sewn since I was a pre-teen, even winning a Singer sewing contest & making my wedding gown. It's been many years so I came here for tips on making cushions. I didn't realize that I really came here for a little confidence boost that you provided me & probably others. I appreciated you admitting that some areas can be difficult but we all have to start somewhere. Those are words to live by and I hope they resonate with your viewers. It was very kind of you to take the time to share your knowledge and I wanted to thank you. BTW. Great job on the chair.
Hi there! These are really lovely words to read, thank you so much!! I’m so glad it gives people a little confidence boost 🤗 to be honest, if I can learn…I’m sure anyone can!
I love your videos! ❤❤I am getting back into upholstery after a 20 year break from it. These UA-cam things did not exist "back in the day", and I cannot believe how awesome it is to use these to up my game! During my long sabbatical I took up quilting. I have been stealing some of my quilting techniques and using them in my upholstery projects. One thing you might consider - when "joining" your piping raw edges, cut the folded end at a 45 degree angle. It will reduce the bulk of fabric at the join, and give you much less of an obvious bump. If you have thick, stubborn fabric (I did a couch with dog-proof fabric, and ugh - super difficult), use a glue stick to "baste" that angled fold in place while you stitch. OR...another option is to baste the piping at the join with a stapler. Yeah! A standard, light weight desk stapler. Who woulda thunk it?? The staple never hurts anything because it's buried in the seam. I got that from another UA-camr, and thought it was insane. Staples in your CUSHION? Sounds like staples in your bum. But it works. You probably don't need these types of tricks, since you have an awesome machine and you do this full time, but those of us who do this as a hobby or are just getting started might need some help keeping that fabric and piping lined up just perfect 🙂
Hi Kim! It’s great to hear new tips from others - I’m still learning new things all the time so I will always welcome someone sharing their techniques 🤗 thank you for taking the time to leave your comment and happy to hear you’re getting back into upholstery! Glad you enjoy the videos 😊👍🏻
Your video has been so helpful. I've also taught myself to sew, using countless UA-cam videos. I'm now making a fitted foam cushion cover, with piping and a zip. I was initially so overwhelmed and unsure whether I'd be able to pull it off, but your video gave me confidence and I'm now attaching the border and zip to the facings. Thanks so much for wanting to give back and well done on teaching yourself! I pray that your business is thriving in 2023!! 🙏🏻
Thank You. As a sewer myself I wanted to watch for any tips you may have. Snipping the pipping at the corner was a good reminder. I kept thinking, “Poor fellow. There are fabulous scissors available that make it so much easier and better for your hand and arms. “ Just Sayin. Thanks Again. I enjoyed it.
Awesome tutorial, thank you! I'm about to upholster some foam cushions for a seat we've built to fit snugly into a bay window and I'vbe got no idea what I'm doing, but your video has been so helpful!
Hi Helene! Thank you so much for watching - I’m so glad the video helped you to make your friend’s cushions. This is why I enjoy making videos, to helps others learn too 😊 thanks again Helene!
My biggest and most of the time problem is matching the corners. OMG! Yours look so good. My mom was an upholsterer and she could make a quarter bounce off the cushion. I don’t even come close and when she was doing it, I wasn’t interested…lol typical
Thanks pardner..very helpful info..to replace all missing cushions on sailboat I just bought. No cusions..at all..now get a machine simular too yours..!
I'm building my own couch, and just realized I'm not going to get much help from any pros once the frame is built.. trying to learn how to do it on my own. Thank you for your vids, super helpful and hang in there!
Thank you for watching my videos and for your comment 😊🙏🏻 Good luck with your couch! If you need any help along the way, I’d be glad to give you some advice. Let me know how you get on!
Hi Neil, To trim down the piping I took out the thread from my cheap Singer overlocker and ran it through there just using the blade as ir struggled overlocking the piping from outdoor fabric. That was a good compromise for me.
Hi Paul! That was a great idea! It’s a great way to get the perfect half inch on your piping 😊👍🏻 hopefully you can thread it back up easily as I have a nightmare doing it 🤣
I come from woodworking so new to the game when it comes to sewing, love to see how you are working, seems so easy for you, best sign to tell if someones good at what they do! Absolutly love to see nice machinery aswell, brilliant work sir! All the best to you, love from Sweden!
As always GREAT MASTER !!!! CHAPEAU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice armchair with nice fabric What impresses me about You Maestro is that I pack the fabric before nailing (I hope to make myself understood) (I don't know English) Instead you (Not just an upholsterer like me) but GREAT ARTIST does not baste the fabric but nails directly immediately !!!!! What else: CHAPEAU GREAT MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best Wishes.
Just did a box seat pad today. I was looking to see if there was an easier way to corner, I see there isn't! Great video I subscribed. Practice makes it easier I guess...TYFS Kate in New York 🙃
Thank you so much for your efforts with this.....i have done many diy upholstery jobs with nothing but a staple gun and a box knife ( on ski boats) but i always wondered how it is really done. Looks like the industrial class machine and the overlocker might force me to keep using my basic methods.
Thanks so much for watching and for your kind comment 😊👍🏻 this ones a walking foot industrial machine - makes the job a lot easier but you’ve done well to get by with a staple gun and box knife... that takes more skill!
That was awesome. Thank you. And thanks for the tidbit about being a beginner. I am. I'll be making my first square cushion, my first piping cord, my first zipper..Ay!!!! Fingers crossed. Thanks for the tutorial.
Just found you and glad I did. You are very talented. Thank you for your videos, and even though this video is 2 years old, I hope that your business is doing well.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Yes business is very busy and grateful to get to hear from people all over the world enjoying our videos. Thankyou Pepprina 👍 😊 📎⛏️✂️📐🧵
You're very welcome - thank you for watching. You can apply this technique to any kind of box cushion - hopefully it helps you in your project 😀👍 Good luck!
@FaceliftInteriors thanks for the lesson. Nice machines! Sounds like your shears need tightening up. "Fiskars" makes a great pair of hand size snips! Super sharp, easy on the hands, light weight and it's my understanding lifetime warranty. I bought mine at Walmart...no idea if you have wally world across the pond but you could probably order them.
Thanks for the info! That’s super helpful. We have a supermarket that is owned by Walmart I believe but it’s got absolutely nothing on the Walmarts you guys have over there!! I went to Florida a couple of years ago and could have spent a full day in there 🤣
@@faceliftinteriors I hear ya...I haven't been in the USA ones but I understand they are huge. I'm in Nova Scotia. My mom was born in Coventry though so I have had the opportunity to visit England several times...miss it. I really enjoyed the Marks and Spencer when I was there. What part are you from? Thanks for the sprinkles of humour btw
I would really like working with you in your shop for a month or so. You really taught some really useful techniques. Thank you so much for doing this video.
I like your style of quick, not long-winded! People can pause and re-watch, which I do on most tutorials anyway. I was wondering-- did you use single welt foot for the zip or a zipper foot? And where do you start sewing the welt on the facing, on the front or around the side? Thanks!
Hi Audrie, sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it 😊🙏🏻 I used a single welt foot for the zip and I start sewing the welt on the facing at the back where the join is going to be as it looks much better if the join is around the back of the cushion so it’s hidden - I hope that helps 👍🏻
Thank you. I just built an incredible new sofa/pull-out bed/storage piece in our sunroom. I started making the cushions, & everything went wrong-- cutting some foam, & suddenly couldnt cut a straight line, & all of my measuring felt off, & Im like, "I NEED TO LEARN FEOM SOME EXPERTS. So, thank you.
Thank you for bringing this to us. I have never made seat cushions but will certainly use yours. Mind you make it look easy. I don't have an over locker, so how would I go about this. I also need to make the actual cushions, also hoping to upholster too. I will look at your videos. Thanks once again 😊😊
Hi Anita! Thank you so much for watching. The overlocking isn’t essential for the piping - the fabric I was using was a linen so does tend to fray so I find it best to overlock but isn’t essential. Have a look through my videos for any that could help you along your way - if I can help you further, let me know and I will try my best 😊👍🏻
Thank you for this, I can make plan cushions but this will be a bit of a challenge....mind I like challenges. Haven’t started yet (due sciatica 🥴) but won't be long. Will leave a message to let you know when I'm done. A friend as asked me to upholster her corner unit (couch) so will be having a look to see how its done. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge 😊😊😊
Hi, thanks for a well presented and explained video. All I need now are some supplies to get me going. I need to practice. What cotton do you use and where do you buy it from? Thank you
Hi Neil, what thread do you use and do you. use a size 4 zip. I love watching your video I have learnt a lot . Thank you for sharing 🙏do you always wrap your cushions with wadding / Dacron?
Great helpful video. I have done a couple of projects over the years by following a magazine which I have lost. Starting to cover outdoor cushions without cording. Do you cut the zipper facing wider and cut it in half? I lost focus at the beginning? Thank you so much!
Hi Susan! I take the finish size of the boarder and half it then I add an inch and a quarter (half inch for sewing and then 3/4 inch for folding for the zip). And obviously you have two of them for the zip. Hope this makes sense 😊
@@faceliftinteriors thank you for your reply. Yes it makes total sense. Just finished 3 cushions using outdoor fabric and your video. They turned out pretty well. My machine was not totally happy with the project but I got through it. Cheers!
Thanks for this video. I have a large sofa and chair that need new covers. I am a dressmaker so hoping I will manage ok. My sofa cover seems very complicated.
Thanks for watching Sophie! I’m sure you’ll do just fine with your sewing experience 😊 let me know if you need any help along the way and I’ll try my best to assist 👍🏻
Very laid out tutorial please what fabric type was this? I’m looking to upholstery my IKEA sofa and I’m thinking of using velvet material any recommendations?
Hi James! This fabric was a linen look type fabric by Linwood, it’s called ‘Pronto’. Velvets can come up really nice 👍🏻 Warwick Fabrics do a lovely velvet range called ‘Plush’, which are reasonably priced. Make sure the pile in the velvet is facing the same way when upholstering the different sections otherwise it can look very different if the piles are facing opposite ways 😊👍🏻 Good luck with your sofa, let me know how you get on!
Hola, soy de Ecuador. Me encantó muy bien detallado el video y eso q no en tendí nada de lo q dijo😅. Pero si entendí lo q hizo.. Xfavor puede ponerle subtitulo en español.. Gracias, Dios te bendiga.
I searched for instructions on Box Cushion DIY and yours was the first to pop up. I’ve made covers before but this time I’m trying to cover a foam mattress remnant so my kids dog can have yet another comfy place to lay down, he’s a 120 pound Yellow Lab mix named Rex. I really liked your video style, and your sewing skills are amazing-and you didn’t pin or iron anything. Wow, very impressive. I’m wondering if the bottom of the dog bed cover is upholstery type vinyl does it need to be folded over twice when attaching it to the zip or will one fold (or even just using the raw vinyl edge) suffice? I’m using up some of my fabric remnants bits which is making a large cushion cover a lot more work- so typical of me to make life harder than it needs to be. Thanks!
Hi there! I’m so sorry I missed your comment, I didn’t receive a notification that it came through. One fold for vinyl on a zip should be fine 👍🏻 I hope it turned out great!! Thank you for watching 😊
Hello! I just loved watching your video and I have sewed new pillows and done dining room chair upholstery; getting a new cushion and putting the fabric on perfectly. I want to see what I am capable of and put myself out there to help anyone in need of upholstery. I was wondering if you could give me a price how much you would charge to make box cushions for a customer? Also I don't see a link for what piping you use.
Hi there! Thank you for watching, it means a lot 😊 send me a message on Instagram if you can and I’ll talk you through how I price. The piping I use comes directly from an upholstery supplies so I don’t have a link but it’s 5mm smooth. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Great video, very informative. ..I especially liked the “real ness” of it, thing everyone can do at home, and all the little tips for home sewers. Thank you.
Thanks for the video. I have heard from some industrial sewers that a cylinder arm machine allows you to do three dimensional objects with a little more ease. However, most of the upholsterers that I see on UA-cam use a flatbed machine. So that leads up to my question: is there any advantage to using a cylinder machine for upholstry work? Thanks again for the video and best of luck with your business. KB.
Hi Keefe! Thanks for watching my video and thanks for your comment 😊👍🏻 I would say if you’re going to be doing a lot of top stitching and cross stitching then it’s worth having a cylinder arm machine. But if you’re just doing standard upholstery then a walking foot flatbed machine would more than suffice. Hope this helps 😊
Thanks for sharing your talents with the world. I would ask if you could please do a close-up of the work or use a darker material. Maybe my eyes aren't as good.
Hi Mimi! This is an older video of mine filmed with my old camera so the quality isn’t as good as I’d like. I have plans to re-film this one and will try to make sure it’s a better fabric colour to show up on camera with closer shots 😊👍🏻
Hi Phyllis - thank you for watching my videos, it’s really appreciated! You absolutely could do that, however it could make it a nightmare if you ever have to unpick it. But I would recommend overlooking them all separately.
Hi Leanne - that’s really kind of you to say, thank you so much!! We’re surviving just about 😊 thanks for watching and for commenting - it’s really appreciated!
Im willing to bet that many of us would sit here and watch/ listen to you all day, I know I could look at you... I meant, listen :) to you all day just slowwww down fast talker.
Hi Sony! It depends on what the customer wants but I’ll either use high density gold or pink foam for the seat cushions. Back cushions I use channel fibre cushions. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻
Great video. We get a sofa sleeper free, a big rip on center cushion, I love the look of sofa but couldn't afford what the professionals would charge to redo the cushions, 125.00 per cushion and we supply the fabric, yikes. Thank you for making us think we can DIY this project. Hope your business made it through Covid crazyness

Very nice and easy, I done this many times, but have purchased expensive fabric this time, wish me luch
Glad it works for you! Good luck, I’m sure it’ll go great! 👍🏻
Hi, thanks for a well presented and explained video. All I need now are some supplies to get me going. I need to practice. What cotton do you use and where do you buy it from? Thank you
Many thanks, I buy all mine from my local upholstery supplies. I use 36 or 40 cottons, if you are in the UK try livedale upholstery supplies. ⛏️✂️🧵📐
Thanks so much for the lesson!!!💕 little sewing and a little comedy!! Yayeee
Haha thanks Stephanie! Thank you for watching, glad you enjoyed 😆👍🏻
Neil, great job on your instructions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Many thanks, John Ellis, Aldie, Virginia USA

Ahh thank you so much! I’m glad someone enjoys my humour 🤣
Thank you... Love from Canada, Montréal... Merci beaucoup
Thank you for watching! Best wishes to Montreal 😊🙏🏻
Hi Neil, what thread do you use and do you. use a size 4 zip. I love watching your video I have learnt a lot . Thank you for sharing 🙏do you always wrap your cushions with wadding / Dacron?
Ahh thanks. Yes always wadding on cushions and then stocking net.
I think I use a size 3 zip to be honest.
🙏🙌👍🧵📐✂️⛏️🪡
Thank you! I can’t find my course notes but this is how I have been taught. Pfff. Saved my bacon here
Haha glad to help!!
Deserves more followers so thumbs up and comment! Watch a commercial or two.
Ahh you’re too kind James! Thank you so much!! 😁
Cheers!
Hi. Thanks for the video. Making your own piping can use up a lot of material, would you advise buying ready-made piping?
Would be amazing if the suppliers made the piping up for us but unfortunately I don't know anyone that does. Maybe a business 💡 ⛏️📐🧵✂️
FaceLiftInteriors thanks mate I appreciate the response.
Thanks for taking the time to make such a useful video
Thank you Jo, I’m glad you found it useful 😊 thank you for taking the time to watch it!
best upholstery videos on youtube! i've watched 10+ of yours today, subbed for sure - thanks tons!
Hi Jon! You’re too kind, thank you so much for watching and for subbing 😊👍🏻
Nice , you do beautiful work. Thank you for the videos. I’ve learned al lot..👍👍
That’s really kind thank you Juan 😊👍🏻 and thank you for watching - it’s really appreciated!
I see from Bangladesh🇧🇩 which country you are from. I learned a lot. Thank you very much

@@faceliftinteriors Brother, I am working on a sofa in London. Can you take me? Please help
am watching your box cushion video, which is great
I found box cushions one of the harder things to learn when it comes to upholstery sewing.
I am trying to revive the ugliest glider in the world and this has helped immensely!
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment Nicole! I’m glad you found it helpful 😊 good luck with your project!!
Thanks for sharing, i'm pretty much teaching myself too.. bit by bit..
Hope your business survives the corona virus.
Thank you for your comment 😊 if I can teach myself, anyone can - good luck to you! Thank you, I really hope so too...fingers crossed 🤞🏻
@@faceliftinteriors ok cool, i'm enjoying it which is the main thing. Will keep plugging on 😊
Nice tute! Good job. Nice crisp straight lines and great looking corners!
Thanks a lot Linda! 😁👍🏻
I loved this video. I need to replace some covers for my leather sofa . Will this method work for leather? I am not a pro and need lots of direction😂
Yes, absolutely but be careful as with leather once you have sewn it you cant get rid of the holes. Hope all works out well for you! 🙏😊📎✂️⛏️🧵📐
Thanks again for this video. Is the piping sewn onto the right side of the cushion facing?
Hi Sophie! Thanks for watching, it’s really appreciated. Yes it is sewn on to the right side of the facing 😊
Such an awesome channel, love your videos. Thank you for giving back and teaching us amateurs 😝
That’s such a kind thing to say, thank you Tanya! I’m glad you enjoy the videos 😊🙏🏻
That was just the ticket. Great clip thank you. 🎉🎉😊
Glad you found it helpful 😊
Great video, very informative. ..I especially liked the “real ness” of it, thing everyone can do at home, and all the little tips for home sewers. Thank you.
Hi Debra, thank you so much for your kind words - I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😊
Best opening sequence
Reminds me of the time I was tied up in a burlap sack
O to the M to the Goodness! YOU ARE HILARIOUS! :D thank you for this!
That's a very lovely comment to read. Thankyou for taking the time and thanks for the support. 😊🙏
Came for the cushion reupholster, stayed for the Borat impersonation.
Love these videos!
🤣🤣 thanks mate 👍🏻
Great instruction, thanks! I might have missed it but what weight/size thread are you using?
Hi, do you know how long it should take to make a box pipped cushion in industry ? Love your videos btw!
Hiya, many thanks. These would take me approximately 30minutes each. 👍☺️📐📌🪡🧵✂️
Goodness, your channel’s like a rabbit hole…
Would you recommend overlocking all the inside hems’ edges together when you’re done with the cover?
Hi Phyllis - thank you for watching my videos, it’s really appreciated! You absolutely could do that, however it could make it a nightmare if you ever have to unpick it. But I would recommend overlooking them all separately.
Really helpful video and top technical information. Thank you! I hope you have survived the lockdown, your work looks like a really high standard.
Hi Leanne - that’s really kind of you to say, thank you so much!! We’re surviving just about 😊 thanks for watching and for commenting - it’s really appreciated!
Thanks! For what it’s worth, an overlocker is called a serger in America. No idea why.
That’s good to know Vern, thank you!
Im willing to bet that many of us would sit here and watch/ listen to you all day, I know I could look at you... I meant, listen :) to you all day just slowwww down fast talker.
Hahaha!! That’s very kind 😂 you’re not the first person to say I talk too fast… I’ve made a mental note!! ✍🏻 thanks for watching!
this guy is fantastic, many thanks
You’re too kind Felicity! Thank you so much for watching 😊👍🏻
Nice one. Neve tried sewing might just give it a go. BTW what foam do you use for your chair seat and back cushions.
Hi Sony! It depends on what the customer wants but I’ll either use high density gold or pink foam for the seat cushions. Back cushions I use channel fibre cushions. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻
Great instructions, love the video!
Thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
Great video.
Thanks Darla, glad you found the video helpful. We’ve made it through so far, fingers crossed it continues 🤞🏻 thanks for watching!! 😊
Awesome man! Thanks for the tutorials
Thanks man! Really appreciated 😊🙏🏻

Haha thank you!! I wouldn’t quite say that but what a compliment 😊
Thank you for this tutorial👌🏽
Thank you for watching! 👍🏻
You have my sympathy as I also didn’t qualify as such a new business. Have folded my company now.
Hi Christine, I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s been such a tough time for everyone, especially new businesses. Best wishes to you Christine!
Do you have a video on making a skirt for sofa chair or ottoman. Thsnks
Hi Gwen! I don’t actually but that’s a great idea for a video, I’ll put it on my list 😊👍🏻
