I'm 68 yrs old and as always agree with everything you 2 say. You can get amazing moisturizers for very reasonable costs. A recent example for me was buying the Skinceuticals moisturizer ($140) and then buying the Aveeno for eczema ($18). The Aveeno was 10 times better for my skin. The results after 2 weeks was remarkable. I too splurge on facial tinted spf 50+. I wear it instead of foundation (and elegantly formulated foundation can get $$$!) I like Avene Retinol the best and I've tried many. It's fairly pricey but honestly it lasts a very long time. The rest is just for fun really - essences, serums, antioxidants. My skin has always been good so I'm pretty low maintenance. I think it's helpful to know where you should splurge and not. Thank you for another great video!
Thank you for discussing H.S, I had my first boil at 16, after that I didn't suffer often...until my mid 20's, it got bad fast and I felt disgusting and carried a lot of shame thinking I was doing something wrong and not cleaning properly etc. I was finally diagnosed when I was around 27 years old because it was so painful, covered all those embarrassing areas and I needed help. Anyone I did open up to back then, didn't react in a nice/kind way. I also got a lot of "advice" on cleanliness. I'm in the U.K and I don't think there is much awareness even now. I'm now 45 😮 I am on long term antibiotics that I didn't think helped much until I came off them. I soon started taking them again. I guess I'm mostly used to it now and luckily have a fabulous relationship with love and understanding from my husband. It's so hard to talk about, especially when you are younger. It's sadly a very embarrassing disease which is why so many people suffer in silence. So once again thank you for opening up that discussion. I think you are both awesome and you give such great advice. Many thanks.
Like you My daughter has suffered since she was in her teens. I’m not sure which was worse for her , the pain or the shame. No one understood what it was.sometimes her “cysts” were as big as a fist. As she got older, she would go to the ER and have them cut open allowing them to drain which would relieve the pain. It was very hard for her to hold down a job due to the odor of the draining fluid and pain. She took jobs that isolated her from others. Then there was the depression…. We went to so many doctors, wound specialists , dermatologist, surgeon. My daughter has somehow battled thru all of this for 30 years with support from her family. She has found others like her on TikTok so knows she is not alone. Her present dermatologist told her he has never seen a case as severe as hers. My heart goes out to you and everyone one else with HS.❤
Plz plz plz can you both make a video on autoimmune disorders like SLE and use of hydra facials, derma fillers , laser etc . I'll be ever grateful to you if you could provide some information about it. ❤️
It would be really cool if you could do a video on K-Beauty! I feel like there are *so many* claims about different ingredients that aren’t typically in western skincare so it’s hard to know what is effective or just hype. Also: ferments! Anecdotal, but my skin gets SO glowy with ferment products and it’d be cool to see a video on that too. Like SK-II and the more affordable dupes like Missha.
Glycerin was always good in moisturizer but due to the tackiness at higher concentration and the hype of HA it got pushed away even though it has been in cosmetics for decades. On molecular level it actually can penetrate skin A LOT easier while most forms of HA is just too big to go much deeper. I personally have a skin that needs to be hydrated often and just few months ago I found the perfect solution that even eases my sensitive/dry skin. All I do is wash my face with distilled water (we have hard water and it's one of the bigger reason why my face felt dry), then I mix small amount of glycerin with distilled water in those small "portable humidifiers", spray the mist on my face for a good minute, doo the serums, do the humidifier mist again and finally I "seal" it with HA based moisturizer. I feel like HA creates a "barrier" that doesn't let any moisture escape but this combo makes my face feel like a baby skin each time I wash it down...oh and drinking of plenty of water helps too. :)
I found a great cheap sunscreen for me. The Nivea Sun Protect Super Water Gel, it's a chemical sunscreen totally invisible so no cast, but it also doesn't burn my eyes which is my problem with 99% of chemical sunscreens. It also has a really feel to it. My absolute favorite is the Dr Murad Invisiblur sunscreen. It's like a matte gel primer. It makes your skin look so good, but it's $70 for 1oz 😑
It is hard for someone has a autoimmune disease. I have one. It is hard. And yes, it is difficult when we have to take so many medications just to function.
Agreed! I have 3 autoimmune diseases and deal with a lot of extra weight that is so hard to lose. Even when I can manage to lose some pounds I still look puffy from medications.
Autoimmune diseases are appearing more & more often. They are serious conditions and can be life threatening without proper daily medications to manage them. Steroids really do a number on the body and can change the shape of your face. I'd be interested to know how steroids affect the skin and what to be careful of.
Totally disagree about sunscreens. I prefer tinted sunscreen. Given that, I tried expensive brands EltaMD, DRMTLGY or Paula’s Choice and hated them all. They slide right off my face very quickly and ELtaMD flakes off. However $15 Australian Gold tinted mineral sunscreen is amazing. It goes on greasy, which feels weird, but dries down to a beautiful matte finish that lasts all day. It replaced my foundation completely because it is even blurring. No need for powder and keeps my very oily skin from shining all day.
A great way to get cost effective sunscreen is to focus on buying larger volumes. For instance my favorite sunscreen is the Omi Verdio UV Moisture Gel Spf 50++++. It comes in a larger pump bottle of 220g (about 7.5 oz) and so is much, much cheaper per oz. than almost anything else, so I don't feel the need to be precious with it when it comes to applications. Highly recommend!
Interesting conversation. Thank you for discussing issues with oral steroids. Disagree on the "splurge" on sunscreen. I did that once with a mineral sunscreen that "everyone" loved, but now I spend so much less using Korean sunscreens (most are less than 20, many less than 15, and a few are less than 10). Glad you mentioned Stylevana, I think this is a great resource to try other sunscreens for a reasonable price.
I agree with your banter about intentions over commenting. I always wonder where i should draw the line in giving my advice on medication or whether I should call out misinformation that is often spread on social media.
Some sunscreen brands qualify for fsa, so if you have a card or are trying to spend a certain amount before the year ends it be a good time to stock up without it taking a chunk out of your regular budget
When I was a young teen, long ago, my best friend's mom used rosewater and glycerin moisturizer. It smelled so good and felt so good that my friend and I were using it to the point where her mom bought us each a tube or a bottle or whatever it was in, I can't remember now.
I was told to use 100% natural Aloe Vera on my skin during my radiation treatments, it worked wonderfully! I used that during the day and used Aquaphor at night.

I couldn't disagree more about the splurge on sunscreen! I've not found an expensive sunscreen at any price that beats a lot of the Korean sunscreens that are under $15.00. I used Elta MD for years and it's terrible when compared to huge numbers of Korean sunscreens. I used to think it was the gold standard. I've used multiple high-end sunscreens over the past 30 years on my fair skin and feel I 'm now an expert on the high-end spectrum. The first time I tried Korean sunscreen I couldn't believe how much money I'd been wasting.
@@estela9378 the Korean ones I’ve liked and repurchased are Isntree Hyaluronic Watery Sun Gel and Beauty of Josean Relief Sun: Rice+Probiotics. They are both SPF50+ and PA++++. Japanese ones I like (even though you didn’t ask, lol) are Hada Labo in the blue jar and Canmake Mermaid. All available inexpensively from YesStyle if you are willing to wait. None of these are waterproof.
If you are allergic to the Farmacy HA, I would look to see if royal bee jelly is in the ingredient deck. That stuff makes me break out in very itchy bumps every time. I wish it wasn't used in skincare. I do love Farmacy's products.
What do you guys think of the skincare from the french pharmacy? Like for example A313 (retinol) it is very affordable and the reviews are good. I'm curious what you guys think..
Great !!! I agree on sunscreen!!! Clarins, Shiseido, LaRoche Posay is most of my skincare budget, and yes to Vichy Mineral 89👍. HA actually robs skin of water, glycerin does not
I have extremely reactive skin and cannot find a sunscreen (at any price point) that doesn’t cause be to react or get textured skin. Would love an up to date sunscreen video for the different skin types and at different price points
I wish you had established definitions to “splurge” or “save” - what’s the dollar range??!! Am I splurging on Vichy Vitamin C (which I LOVE) or my CeraVe tinted sunscreen (which is less than some and more than others!!) Whatever they are, I’m happy with them and they do my skin good! So it’s worth it!! 🙌🏻😊
I'm actually really surprised that Dermatologists prefer HMW Hyaluronic Acid; I thought it was generally supported by studies that the most benefit with the least irritation potential was 80,000-1,000,000 daltons, which is usually labeled as LMW (Low Molecular Weight) Hyaluronic Acid. While HMW HA is more active *within* the body, it's not small enough to penetrate skin & get there. Higher molecular weights swell into a gel that just sits on the skin & block TEWL, more like an occlusive rather than a humectant I don't think Vichy is a HMW formula, at least I don't see any claims on their website about their HA's molecular weight, though it is a very elegant gel. The wonderful experience of this gel has more to do with the gums (Carbomer, Biosaccharide Gum-1) & anti-tack agents (Methyl Gluceth-20) than it does with the Hyaluronic Acid
Hi!! Ive been watching all your videos and loving it. Since you are talking about splurging / save , i hope you can do a review on Obagi. I am so interested in trying them. Please tell me what you think it.
Neutrogena's new purescreen mineral tint is the BOMB!!! I find it wears better than the expensive brands I have tried. The best tinted sunscreen ever, the worst packaging ever...but I'll deal with it.🥰
I'm not sure if you two have made a video or spoken about this already, but I'm interested in knowing how steroid creams such as hydrocortisone affect the skin. Years back, I used to get cystic acne really bad. If I caught one before it grew and became noticeable, I would use the hydrocortisone cream and it worked! I know it's an anti-itch cream, but somehow it helps keep the swelling down and prevents cysts from growing bigger- at least in my experience.

Yeah most of them are $30+ for like 1.7oz. The only one that’s “affordable” is the SPF 30 face moisturizer for 3.3 oz. Its 20 bucks, but not waterproof sadly
35 years back I was using glycerin + rose water and fresh lemon juice every day. My face used to shine like anything. But now I am rich and lazy and can afford to buy well-researched readymade products. They do work well but can't forget the glycerin mix effect yet. I am 60 years now. But people say I am not more than 40. I feel proud of myself.
Recently i'm allergic to Limonen-Hydropesoxid , Tolubalsam, Hydroabietyl Acohol Abitol, PropolisCera and perubalsam, all can be found in the cosmetic products and i'm so confused about what products should i use now. Can you please make a video about what kind of products can we use when we have this kind of allergy. Thanks alot
When you spoke about hyaluronic acid - you stated to look for a high level. Do you mean a high molecular level or a high formula percentage? From my formulation research, a low molecular weight is better for skin absorption (such as 800K-1M daltons). And a max of 1% HA in products overall is best for efficiency and value. Can you clarify?
unrelated question, I have been prescribed Efudex by my Dermatologist in the past. Tried several times to use it, each time within a few hours my skin erupts in a painful rash. Is there another way to treat pre cancerous lesions ? thank you

I've used multiple high-end sunscreens over the past 30 years on my fair skin and feel I 'm now an expert on the high-end spectrum. The first time I tried Korean sunscreen I couldn't believe how much money I'd been wasting.
Agree. Love my Korean sunscreens!
What is the name of the Korean sunscreen you use?
@@estela9378 the Korean ones I’ve liked and repurchased are Isntree Hyaluronic Watery Sun Gel and Beauty of Josean Relief Sun: Rice+Probiotics. They are both SPF50+ and PA++++.
Japanese ones I like (even though you didn’t ask, lol) are Hada Labo in the blue jar and Canmake Mermaid.
All available inexpensively from YesStyle if you are willing to wait.
None of these are waterproof.
@@heidikamrath1951 you took the words out of my mouth. I love all of these. But I think Stylevana has better prices.
@@maureengreen617 from other chats, I’ve heard the same (Stylevana better prices) but YesStyle faster delivery/better customer service.
I was wondering if you guys have any videos about Saint Jane products. And Drunk Elephant.
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions 😂
Dr Barbara Sturm makes an expensive Niacinamide serum haha
What about SkinBetterScience Trio moisturizer ? Doesn’t it also matter the “vehicle” for the ingredients ?
I'm actually really surprised that Dermatologists prefer HMW Hyaluronic Acid; I thought it was generally supported by studies that the most benefit with the least irritation potential was 80,000-1,000,000 daltons, which is usually labeled as LMW (Low Molecular Weight) Hyaluronic Acid. While HMW HA is more active *within* the body, it's not small enough to penetrate skin & get there. Higher molecular weights swell into a gel that just sits on the skin & block TEWL, more like an occlusive rather than a humectant
I don't think Vichy is a HMW formula, at least I don't see any claims on their website about their HA's molecular weight, though it is a very elegant gel.
I like to put aloe vera gel in the fridge and use it when I come in, burnt or not.
Neutrogena's new purescreen mineral tint is the BOMB!!! I find it wears better than the expensive brands I have tried. The best tinted sunscreen ever, the worst packaging ever...but I'll deal with it.🥰
I agree. It's a quality product and the price is quite reasonable.
32:20 Dr Shah “Zac… what’s the guy’s name”
Second time Dr Shah! We need to find out what the beef is between Dr Shah and Zac Efron. Like what actually happened? Did he say something about your skin?
😜
Hahahahaha sorry sorry sorry
What are y’all’s thoughts on Korean skincare!
How is La Roche-Posay sunscreen affordable at 38.00!?
how much do you get for that amount? Elta MD is $42 for 1.7 oz
This is common to all of us in India, I guess. I've been advised this recipe from my aunts and I live in Bengal !!❤❤😀😀
I aspire to be rich and lazy
I remember using lemon juice as a toner
😢😢 I'm 22 and look like 32😢😢😢😢😢
@@merylparks1584 Rose water is a good toner. It’s benefits are amazing.
How to introduce retinol in my routine if I work in night shift??
I totally agree on the retinol I had some over the counter that didn’t do a thing and said 10%
How to get a personal appointment online for skin problems?
Yeah there’s an expensive niacinamide! Barbara Sturm Better B Niacinamide is $145!
if she would sell drinking water it as well would cost 80 dollars for 3 ounces 🤣
@@madammadonna - indeed!!!!!!
Thanks alot
Which retinol products from that study you mentioned didn’t have retinol in it?
When you spoke about hyaluronic acid - you stated to look for a high level. Do you mean a high molecular level or a high formula percentage?
From my formulation research, a low molecular weight is better for skin absorption (such as 800K-1M daltons). And a max of 1% HA in products overall is best for efficiency and value.
Can you clarify?
Anyone else notice that Dr. Maxwell’s audio isn’t sync’ed? Or is this my imagination?
Don't splurge on SUNSCREEN!!! YOU NEED TO REAPPLY EVERY TWO HOURS😬😬😬😬 You can get decent sunscreen around 20 dollars!
I guess I would say, 40 dollars for a facial sunscreen is a splurge and I am willing to pay that but for body sunscreen? Less than 10 bucks!
Never found a vit c product that works better than skinceuticals. Ive tried other replacements for it but absolutely nothing has wowed me like the og
Everyone says this
unrelated question, I have been prescribed Efudex by my Dermatologist in the past. Tried several times to use it, each time within a few hours my skin erupts in a painful rash. Is there another way to treat pre cancerous lesions ? thank you
What would you recommened for under eyes? I am struggling to find something for my dark under eyes circles.
What age should you start using retinoids?
I love how y’all are always incorporating price points and telling us where to save!!!! Also I use dollar tree sunscreen it’s really nice and thick, and works well with my other products but I will look into some of the one’s you all recommended. Can you please do a video on the Black Girl Sunscreen I would love to hear y’all’s feedback! Thank you for all the info, always. 🫶🏾
Docs, about how long does a 50ml sunscreen last you? (think LRP UVMune fluid, or Korean sunscreens). Thanks! Great channel!
I've always had allergic reaction to aloe vera 😢
Not me spending $140 on my skinceuticals moisturizer 😢😐
