Samurai employed spies/saboteurs as early as 9th century Japan. Samurai sticking with their code too much is false and is just a common stereotype, Sengoku Jidai showed how very flexible samurai are (employing firearms, using terror tactics, unconventional warfare and samurai functioning as ninja).

The irony with the Ghost of Tsushima is its storyline is actually more representative of the Korean popular resistance to the Japanese invasion of Korea during the Imjin War. So the samurai were actually in the role of the Mongols as the brutal bad guys. The real Mongol take over of the small island of Tsushima only took a few days before they moved on to attacking the Japanese home islands.
Japan has already tried to hide its imperial history especially those against Korea. It plays the victim role and those types of stories rather become more popular. You won't usually find a game where Japan is in bad light nowadays because of the popular narrative.
I am Japanese. I learned in compulsory education what Japan did to Korea. During the Japanese invasion around 1590, Japanese warriors cut off the noses and ears of Korean peasants and brought them back to Japan for rewards as false proof that they had defeated enemy soldiers. Ear and nose graves still exist in southern Japan. They also abducted Korean artisans to Japan. The history of the Japanese empire before and after World War II is also studied in compulsory education (I omit it because it is lengthy). All Japanese know about them, except those who fell asleep during class or are foolish enough to forget what they have learned.
Sucks that they couldn't include the chinese or koreans into the enemy line. One of the biggest betrays the Japanese felt was seeing the people who they would have call trade partners and allies for centuries fight them. A Japanese intern said they it would have been a bad idea to raise controversy on a new ip. At least they included chinese and korean style weapons and armors.

Pretty cool that this game is set during the Mongolian invasion of Japan. I don't know much about this time period and would like to learn more about it.
The story of 2 back-to-back invasion of the Mongols to Tsushima is rather more tragic than what Ghost of Tsushima depicts. It's good to know that their thousands strong ships were sunk by a Typhoon while trying to invade mainland Japan lol.
Two typhoons are what stop both Mongolian invasions not the events that happened in this game and Katana's were not made yet until after the Mongols attacked. The swords they used prior (forgot the name?) were trash towards Mongolian armor so they invented the Katana to combat it. In the game you already have a Katana before its birth.
The samurai didn’t have a code of honor. At the end of the day the objective is to kill your enemy. The only time honor would come into play is during a duel.
Exactly. The whole bushido concept was an attempt to introduce some general way of behaving because most samurais were testing the sharpness of their blades on their own peasants.
I absolutely the slaughter on the Commander. Jin casually poisons an archer, a dual-wielder and (what looks like) a heavy swordsman to distract the general, jumps off a balcony (in plain fucking sight of the mongols but IG the three guys choking on their own blood was too creepy for them to ignore) and beheads the warlord in one clean strike before literally yeeting his disembodied head at the cowards who are running for the fucking hills. And Shimura still has the balls to call it dishonorable just cuz he wasn't looking the general in the eyes when they literally said five minutes earlier that they'd take the Khan's head.
This part was so amazing because my armor and weapons were pretty well leveled-up by this time, and it was so cool to go into battle with my full armor and mask on 😂 this game was beautifully authentic
This game feels like a true Assassin's creed game. Ubisoft are just repeating the same mistake over and over again after Obyssey. They are giving combat and battles more important than what it means to be an assassin. Jin qualities to be a great assassin. He abandoned his code and took to stealth and cunning to defeat his opponent and most importantly he walks this path alone. Jin's actions perfectly describes "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." Honor would not defeat your opponent and it wouldn't save your people. To win you need to do everything possible even if it means poisoning your enemies's food. Ubisoft has been adding things like navel battles, settlement building, more weapons and better combat but all those things were not what made Assassin's creed 2 so a perfect game. I really liked this idea too. I was also thinking that since the actual outcome of Tsushima invasion is complete annihilation of the island, it would be fitting to say that the true ending is being defeated because of sticking to the tradition despite the overwhelming odds. On the other hand the best ending would be this one, being Ghost, the hypothetical poetic win for the islanders. Another idea also is this. If you were able to worship 100% of the shrines, you will activate the Divine Wind that will prevent the mainland invasion; if not, the Mongolian forces will be successful invading the mainland as well.
Not every game needs to have branches of story lmao. This isn't even an rpg. The devs wanted to tell their own story of a character they created and they did. That's all there is to it. Not really, horses were just a travel commodity to them to get to point a to point b. Some even ate their horses after they died. Kothun even mentions he his men feasted on his favourite horse after she became I’ll and died.
Totally amazing. But, this is the reason why i only play Mount and Blade and total war. “Great Battle”? And is just No more than 20 guys at the time. Is almost insulting.
The historical background depicted in this game is inaccurate. For example, the Japanese soldiers' armor and costumes and Japanese building in this game are from the late 16th century, not the late 13th century (at the time of the Mongol invasion). Westerners like the word "samurai", but in Japan at that time, it was more popular to call it "bushi", "buke", "bujin", "bumon" instead of "samurai". In addition, "bushi (samurai)", which has a master-slave relationship with the "Kamakura-dono(Kamakura Shogunate)", was called "Gokenin".
In the Japanese dub, they use the term “bushi” a lot more. You’re right that it’s inaccurate, but they intentionally made it anachronistic for stylistic purposes.

Mongols didn’t defeat samurai so mongols were not unbeatable . Japan never invaded by anyone. Thanks to sea and nature. Samurai battle tech isn’t that much good. They don’t use shield to protect themselves. Poor defending tech but attacking tech is good.
Japan is fortunate that there were typhoons on the southern part of Japan where the Mongol fleet was, if it wasn't for those typhoons they probably would've made it to the island of Japan.

Is that golden dude for real? Two of his men die being OBVIOUSLY shot and he doesn't suspect shit, and he DOESN'T HEAR SAKAI LANDING WHEN WE CLEARLY DO
And HIS MEN DIDN'T SEE HIM EITHER? OR THEY DIDN'T WARN HIM? WTF BRO
I really wish you could replay this battle. I haven't played the game in long time but did they add the ability to replay chapters etc
Wish they could release the game for PC 😥
We could get amod where there is finally more than 20 combatants battling at a time in this mission which was kind of immersion breaking
It's finally here, after 4 years
They should've added a short animation that the hwatcha rocket is ignited with a linstock every time it fires, not like it's a modern MLRS
It reminds me how Assassin's Creed made the Puckle gun fire like a modern Mark 19.
So merciful don't they?
They yelling "STAND DOWN" before releasing arrow.
You know you can use Ghost Stance if you don't get hit so often, right? I feel like I must have used Ghost Stance at least 10 times during this sequence.
Ohh
I wish there were games like Last Samurai 😢
This is better though, cause it's not ruined by a white guy playing dress up as a Samurai.
alright but no need to add that white guy just add it according to shiroyama rebellion
@@Evin07 what is wrong with you people? Why is everything about race?
@@TheBigR02 As the great Robert Downey Jr said in his infamous role about a white guy playing as a black character "What do you mean, you people?"... But seriously, your question to me about race is hilariously ironic. Just google "Whitewashing in Hollywood" to get your answer.
@@Evin07 "you people" are the people who drag race into everything, I couldn't care less who acts out a role as long as they do it well.
You should master the ghost skill the yurikawa thing
Game of the year for sho for sho

I see you're using the moon stance.
I never know samurai in those days can speak English fluently
this would have been a great game. lacking only of more finishing moves or finishing effects to make it more exciting
Mongolians will never burn horses because they respect horses, as if they stamped the world with horse hooves. After the 8th century, Mongolians still respected their horses
Not really, horses were just a travel commodity to them to get to point a to point b. Some even ate their horses after they died.
Kothun even mentions he his men feasted on his favourite horse after she became I’ll and died.
So badass
pc?
I use play this as if there is nothing else worries me
Totally amazing. But, this is the reason why i only play Mount and Blade and total war. “Great Battle”? And is just No more than 20 guys at the time. Is almost insulting.
That war is big right
The historical background depicted in this game is inaccurate.
Which armor is Jin wearing?
0:9 luffy is there
lord shimura is robotic man
Not like that... Never like that...
Ngelihat aja udah seneng
I want to redownload the game
The player doesn't know what he's doin
So Good Samurai 👍👍👍
Does this game has combos like For Honor or is it spamming attack button?
it has combos but this guy was just clicking away you have different stances and he didn't do any tripple kills when behind them he just slashing them. you can take your time and massacre these mongols
@@raymfivetwelve2247 that's a cool game then. I hope they add pvp like For Honor.
No combos, you just spam buttons. But the guy above is right, there are different stances suited for each enemy type
how did you get the yellow horse
Anyone know the soundtrack in the background?
The theme that plays in combat? "way of the samurai".
