How to get the "Load" & "Reload" GUITAR TONE - James Hetfield (Metallica) - Bias Amp & Bias FX

- Using Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX 2, I show how to accurately get the guitar sound from James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica) on both "Load" and "Reload" albums.
IMPORTANT 2023 UPDATE - Some users have reported they can't find my presets when searching Bias FX 2. This seems to be a glitch in their search system. To solve the issue, type in the search field "DMO -" (yes, just DMO followed by a space and hyphen) and choose "Sort by Popularity" in the drop-down beside the search field. You should see all of my presets.
Please note many users have taken my presets and created their own versions with similar names. To make sure you are downloading my original presets, my user name in Bias FX 2 is "Dan Oliv". Also, my original presets have a lot more downloads than the non-original versions.

Here's the gear I'm using:

. M-Audio monitors
. Reaper Digital Audio Workstation

My guitar medley features riffs from these songs: "King Nothing", "Carpe Diem Baby", "The House Jack Built", "2 X 4", "Slither", "Fixxxer", "Bleeding Me" and "Thorn Within".
USING MY PRESET…
If you use my preset for your projects (cover videos, “what if” creations, song tutorials, etc.), I will be happy to check it out. Leave a comment to let me know. If you could also have a link to this video in your video description, I’d appreciate the credit very much.
Say what you will about Load/Reload, but I absolutely love the tone on these albums. I personally actually like Load for what it is: a Rock album. Is it a hallmark of Thrash Metal like their first 4 records? No, because it isn't Thrash Metal. But it's a damn nice Rock album.
In my opinion, Load and Reload are traditional metal albums. Something like Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden is not a very heavy album, but it's still a metal album. I think the misconception is because they went from aggressive thrash to more traditional metal. Sure, there are a couple of songs that shouldn't be there, but songs like King Nothing, Thorn Within and Fuel are pure metal in my humble opinion. And yes, the guitar tone is incredible!
@@dmometalguitar I agree, Load/Reload are complete heavy metal to me. They evolved from the Black album sound and and song structure, and added influences from grunge (moreso on Load than Reload). But I guess what people consider "metal" can be a wide array of sounds. Compared to the 70s metal sound of Zeppelin, Purple, and Sabbath, I would consider Rainbow or even KISS at times to be heavy metal. Other people might just call that hard rock. It's a very fine line, and bands or albums skirting the border can be interpreted either way.
Was sessioning my local skate park tonight and Devils Dance started to rip through the speakers. And I remembered, "Fuck these albums had such a massive chewy tone". So good. Load And Reload was not the thrash the fans wanted, but the heavy songs I needed.
Wow. Great job. Very under appreciated albums in my opinion. So many great riffs and tones.
Load - blood n jizz
Reload - blood n piss
You did it! Thanks for doing the suggestion!
Damn!!! This is the most spot on I've ever heard. You should try to get one of Dead Kennedy's tones (even if they can be god awful hah)
Cant tell how much we appreciate this :)
Dude, I’ve downloaded all your tones from bias 2. Rock on dude!!!
awesome dude, i love it.
Perfect!
Your videos are the best man!! I love it! Any chance for an Iced Earth or Testament tone Video?
Wow!!! I just got Bias and its been awesome
Load ve Reload tonlarını çok profesyonel özetlemişsin 👏👏👏👏
Mate your work is incredible 👍
Thanks Chris. Happy to hear you like it!
@@dmometalguitar I like it too
Meh, I just searched for the definition of "perfect guitar tone" and was linked to this video XD
very accurate
Great job as usual ;) do you thing you could do Pantera - The great southern album? Thanks!
Thorn Within riff…I love it.
This is nice. I would have figured you would need an EMG-81 to even get close.
I've got the same limited edition tribal Gibson Explorer. The first owner put the Hetfield EMG set in it.
Это круто!)
Can you share the "Bleeding Me" tone for the clean intro?
Awesome, but does it works for garage inc? I'm really focused on find/create that tone, espcially for mercyful fate, whiskey, etc
Do you have an Idea to get this sound with an Line 6 Helix ?
I’m happy that I came across your channel. Now with such a sound, learning the songs of your favorite band has become even more pleasant. Thank you for your work)
If you have a clean Metallica tone, please share) I'm sure they will be as cool as other Metallica presets)
Grabaste las 4 pistas por separado? O todas de una sola vez
U maked it in bias amp 2?
I’m bummed this isn’t showing up for me to download. Your black album, ride, justice, and puppets ones show up but not this one or KEA. I’m using the mobile version idk If that has anything to do with it?
Would I need the standard, pro or elite version of the software in order to get these (and your other on point) tones?🤘🏻
standard just to download and use the amp presets, amp license if you wanna make your own amps.
Could you please show a tutorial on how you use the amp match feature in Bias Amp? :)
If you watch my video "how to get the Far Beyond Driven (Pantera) guitar tone", I explain the basics there. There's a lot of fine tuning, and trial and error involved, but that video covers some of the basic concepts.
can u please make one for bias fx 1
what interface you use?
Nice Gibson guitar.
Do I need both Bias amp and Bias fx to use your preset?
Also interesting
Man, make Slipknot IOWA tone, please :)
Yes slipknot tone please!!
Yes, do It for all the maggots out there
Ello maggots
Hi, this one is not coming up in bias fx.. not on iOS anyway
I'm not using anything digital for guitar modeling, but I do have my first 'what if' project in slow development:
My Friend of Misery on Load
(:
can i Bleeding me Clean tone?
hey man, this one can't be found on the tonecloud.. can't find it, did you delete it? thx
Are you using Bias FX 2? The tone cloud of FX 1 won't show FX 2 tones.
@@dmometalguitar ah ok ok, it might be that, thanks
Can I ask why your using 4 tracks in Reaper. I see this with all your videos for Bias tones?
To create a rich, stereo sound. If you watch my "How to get the black album guitar tone" video, I explain the whole concept in detail in that video.
HARDWIRED to self destruct guitar tone please 🥺🥺
Bass 5
Mid 7
Treble 6
This works for me in terms of Amp settinga
Pretty good, but Load and Reload do seem to have slightly different tones, and - as far as I can tell - they both use one track planned left from James and one track planned right from Kirk, not four tracks. Still a totally killer tone you have here that would be great for both albums, whether single, double, or quadruple tracked.
Load and Reload were made at the same time, outside of effects the tone is the same. There is often a ‘thickener’ third guitar deployed during choruses and behind solos etc too. The next change up was Garage Inc - even less gain and more mids 🤘🏽
Thanks buddy, good tone but I can't use ANY of your new tones. ALl of them sayy I need Bias amp 2 i.imgur.com/IspksW1.png
Thosr two albums had perfect tone. But I must say in my opinion, Reload had the cooler riffs.
A general rule to all of the songs from the Load and ReLoad album: they’re in Eb tuning.
Not all.
@@Katana2097 Oh yeah? Well, if you say so, give me some examples (also ennounce the tuning in which the songs were recorded)
@@unromanoarecareanaveragero8275 Cure and Devils Dance are both in D standard. Bad Seed is C#. The rest are Eb.
@@Papa_Ktulu Oh, thanks. But wait, Cure is in D, not in Eb?
0:16 riff name, please.
Carpe Diem, Baby.
Thanks.
Alternate picking? No man. No.
Everybody's a critic
Im a big Metallica fan, but really hate those 2 albuns!
@Music Fan276
Hi.
I dont like 95% of what i heard of those albuns.
There are some good moments but the way they were played and recorded... For me that is not Metallica.
Metallica got big with loyal fans like me, so i think i have the right of having a valid oppinion.
Cheers 🍺
@@portuguesebeer5069 Absolutely. You can declare how much you dislike Metallica's 90's era till the day you die and nobody should try to stop you.
But people will get argumentative when you say 'That's not Metallica'. Bc they have always (with maybe the exception of St. Anger and a few odd singles) made their music their way, for themselves, the way they like it. Just because they went thru a bit of an evolution (or de evolution to some) personally which resulted in a different sound doesn't make it any less 'real Metallica'.
Personally, I love them. Pure, raw, and in your face heavy metal/hard rock albums
Well your opinion is shit
