- Had fun dialling this tone and jamming the riffs. The Master Effects PMEQ is a monster. They all have their own strengths and this one shines right here!

Bleeding Me, Fixxer and Outlaw Torn are some of Hetfield’s best writing efforts, hands down.
Agree, these 3 songs almost sound like a trilogy of sorts. Some of the best vocal performances from JH too
Is it just me or do some of these songs sound kind of Stevie ray vaughn-ish. I love all of these songs
No leaf clover too
A cool thing with this era is that Kirk is on rhythm in the right speaker and he plays the riffs with a different feel to James on the left, and sometimes even completely different parts, like in some sections of Until it Sleeps they're playing these different riffs that seem like they combine into one.
Excellent point
I could've sworn he started recording on St. Anger. But again yeah you're right, until it sleeps has two different rhythms. I prefer kirks rhythm than James' on that song. Its simple but heavy .
Also 3rd 4th and 5th guitars, Harmonization. Its buried in the mix but you can still hear them.
And it sounds so good on these mid tempo songs on Load/Reload. As much as I love the monster production of TBA, this has always been my favorite production and approach. They did the same thing on Turn the Page with the same awesome result
If you pay attention during "The House That Jack Built," you hear Kirk's actually playing a C# tuned guitar - probably C# standard, cuz I don't think they really experimented with drop tuning until the Presidio/St.Anger recording, but I could be wrong.
As much as I love thrash and that 80s era of Metallica, these 2 albums are just so damn good.
They are criminally underrated. Both have been in my main listening rotation since they came out. Good stuff.
metalheads hate on them purely because they aren't thrash, they are still amazing albums, they're just outside of those fans' main genre or whatever.
Agreed. If they weren't Metallica albums they would have been received (and remembered) far differently I think. I love thrash, but I dig these bad ass rock albums too.
It took me a while to accept this reality: it's not Metal, but that doesn't mean it's not good music..
@@IrLosin In my mind they were similar to the first 4 Danzig albums. Heavy blues influenced but still have a metal sound too.
Such an underrated era by Metallica
For a reason
If this album came out under a different name it would have been better received. But fans didn't want to see their favorite thrash band become a generic rock band.
I cannot disagree more.
@@Fartinhalerr I’ve always said this 👌🏼
"Capturing Metallica's Load" 😂 All kidding aside happy to see that you took the time to make this video
I'm a child of AJFA and never really paid attention to these 2 albums, but as I get older I started listening to it and there are greats song on both of them. It' way better than the new albums... Great work LambChoppers, nice to see you back !
I think the thing people overlook the most is the post EQ that happens when an albums mixed or mastered that really shape the tone. The tones they used to record could’ve been more mid range or maybe shaped different. Regardless we always chase those final tones even tho they were probably different in ways before they were mixed and mastered.
I agree, with (good) amp/cab sims (fractal Mesa and Roland 120) through high end frfr speaker (Atomic) Its shocking how good it sounds, I can get CD quality tones live at room temp or cranked.
The sound on Load / Reload is just pure balls!! Great video man!!
I have said it before and ill say it again. There are some fu#@ing GEMS on those two albums. They hold a special place in my life. Some of those songs blast me right back to those wonderful teenage years discovering Metallica. Timeless imo.
Excellent work as always, the tones and playing are spot on!
Got to say, I’m really enjoying these new videos, so handy thanks!
You are killing it with the video edition, I see much better now all the settings, cheers mate!
I've been waiting for a good load tone video for a long time! thx lambchopper
I love the guitar tones from this era. So much texture and still pure balls.
I always liked the guitar tones for load/reload. Glad to see a video on it! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Yes!!! I've waited on this one!! Thank you!!!
My god man your latest videos have been top tier level pro man! Great job! You sound amazing!!
Wow, in the money as usual man. Glad you did this, I love the Load era tones. Thanks
So glad you are back at it man. Love your videos. Also much love for Ollie and his friend
Awesome video!!! So glad to see you back!!!
Its superb mate, you are definitely the master of tones. I was watching the every moment of the video breathlessly. Thanks for inspiring us with your great talent. 🙏🤘🎸
I've been waiting for this one for a long time! Load is my favorite album. Stand up job! Thanks mate!
so great to have you back making awesome content!
Fantastic video!🙌🙌👏👏 I loooove the Load albums!!! Great point on what you said about them evolving after doing the same thing for years!
Another great video mate....i agree with you.....a lot of these riffs are so fun to play despite not being as technical as their earlier stuff.....thanks again 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you for your work and all the science behind it.
yay we're getting closer to hetfield modern live tone capturing video
No leaf clover tone is a live tone actually lol
@@sarpgul3325 I mean 2022 tone
Another great video! I've never really been a huge fan of Metallica but I have a huge amount of respect for them and their accomplishments.
Great video Lamb! One of my favourite Tones. It's so Metallica, but very different to what came before and after. Heavy AF, but a good time and easy on the ears. You really nailed it too 🤘
Load is one of my favorite Metallica album great job on the video 🤘🏻
So glad you got back to doing these videos. I was legit sad when you were stepping away.
you absolutely nailed those tones man! first metallica records i ever owned. found them both in a thrift store in the used cd section
I really enjoyed your video and watching you play that "Ain't My B*tch" riff made me go give it another go. You helped me learn it, so thank you!
Man, you playing the riff from Outlaw Torn gave me chills.
YES!!! I've been waiting years for someone to recreate the Load tone. Probably my second favorite album tone of theirs behind Ride The Lightning. Love your content!
Legendary! :) Love your videos!
Glad to see you enjoying making videos
Now that is a nice video! Well done
Absolutely spot on! I’d love to see you capture some of Metallica’s clean tones at some point
Sounds great! Hears a tone idea lights camera revolution. It’s a great tone. Great to have you back lamb! 🤘
Sounds great, homie!
As always, an incredible video mate
Such a freaking good tone!! You continue to blow me away with how close you nail some of the best tones in history. Love your content!! ps I was one of the ones who thought the Load guitar tones were really good. Oh and congrats on the newest addition to the family, lol. Lil Mango is adorable.
never even considered you doing load and reload so this was really interesting. nailed it as usual. totally thought you were gonna leave us hanging but UFII came in at the end, and it was great seeing Ollie with a Hetfield pick lol
Thank you. Means a lot to me you put the work into doing this. It's my favorite era - load/re-load. I believe they used Rectifiers on those two albums, at least to me it sounds like it anyways. I got my Tremoverb and it nails the tone spot on with the V30's and an 57 mic'd. Don't need to use any EQ's or filters, it's just got that raw flubby loose sound that you mention a lot.
Great show man, really enjoyed it!
Epic vid dude, damn good seeing ya back rocking out.
Great job mate, Load & Reload are awesome albums.
Always a blast! 🤘
Still the best youtube channel ever. Keep making vids
Pretty much nailed it Lamb! If I can add something I find this tone a bit rawer and less polished than the one on TBA. Those songs were hard to figure out when I first bought the records, but I've learned to appreciate them with time.
This is so awesome!!!
Nailed it man, also love Ollie’s new friend!
Love the frequent uploads again mate, hopefully you are doing well!
That ending put such a big smile on my face! I also have a pineapple green cheek conure and she sits with me all the time while I play guitar and steals my picks!
Great tones, also, love the way Newsted sounds on these albums, really complements the guitars so well, awesome sounding records.
Bye and thanks, see you next week, really great explanation of tones from load and reload era
Hugs from Brazil
That tour live James' rig sounded so good.
Sounds so thick and full! Nice bro. I think they were going for. COC /Down sound, Het was hanging out with Pepper Keenan a lot too.
Great nostalgic video man. S&M was a big era for me. I was 14 and learning guitar round that time. The deep cuts across those albums are the best. Outlaw Torn. Bleeding Me. Carpe Diem baby. They were essentially tuning to E flat and doing sabbath riffs for days. Nothing wrong with that! Cool bonus riff at the end too. Cheers 🤘🤘💀💀
Great tones!
Well I guess I’m throwing on Load at work tomorrow while I work. Sounds killer as per usual, Brodie.
The Load albums grew on me and I really dig the sound of that album. I recently tuned to EB and that tuning makes riffs sound so heavy
That's my favorite tuning. And it really is so heavy. 😎
omg you nailed it !
King nothing that tone is so spot on that it’s just sounds exactly the same, good hearing.
I fucking love the production of the vid thanks for for the time and effort it took !!!!
Love the birds too
Thanks man 🤘🏻
I start guitar after listening Load. I waited so much this video :) excellent sound, this "Master Effects PMEQ" is insane ! unfortunatly no direct seller in Europe for this pedal for the moment
They ship world wide
@@LambChopper678 yes you are right ! but with customs US tax and shippig fees
Im loving ollies new buddy they seem chill
Man you got the best ears. I could never find any tones for any of the old records. Have you ever done a Mastodon guitar tone video before? Just discovered your channel and love it. Keep up the good work
I'm with you on that. It's not that Load and Reload are bad, everything before it is just so special! Lots of great songs on Load and Reload! Does Ollie's new friend have a name?
Yeah Mango
@@LambChopper678 Nice!
Tone wise, this is Metallica's peak! Love the vid.
Most hate Load & Reload. I love both of them. Great video, spot on tone! Thank you Lambchopper678!
The Tone King is back :)
Chopper, I have the same thoughts about the earlier albums VS the Load era . Having said that, The version of “Bleeding me”on the CD “Live in London- Antipodean Tour Edition” is the absolute sickest version of this song I’ve ever heard . And Newsted’ s bass is especially rumbly . Thanks for the upload !!!!
Anthony, damn.... its uncanny how close you get. Not the easiest to do. Especially that era. Really impressive...way to turn up brother...🤘
Your Memory Remains tone is damn good, hell yeah.
Ollie holding the fang at the end was perfect
Nice of you to do this. Most people wouldn't want to.
Nailed it!
Thanks for video, your good bro! I grew up on early Metallica and Megadeth, so its a no brainer so just ordered this pedal. Into axe fx mark C++ is gonna be a dream come true! Mesa amp tones just make sense for playing Metallica and i understand better why they they play what they play. Reading/understaning music, great rhythm/lead TONES and shitloads of practice!!!
I love the thick E flat guitar tones on those albums.
Tone nailed!
Love it!
Nice AF! 👍
I would pay GOOD MONEY to have a tone session for the Garage Inc Mercyful Medley tone… absolutely krushing
My god..Torn sounds SO good.
nailed it!
I’m on a trip to the US in Jan / Feb - going to order a PMEQ now
Ive been dying for more videos of the Pm eq
Awesome vid idea. Definitely bluesier influence but still some good songs in there, outlaw torn is an all time fave of mine. I was a bit too young for black album tour but I saw Metallica when touring these albums in Melbourne 1998.
I'm an old school Metallica fan and Load is one of my all time favorite albums by anyone, some don't seem to understand that you can do different stuff and still be good!
I've managed to get reasonably close to some of Load's tones with my Mark V (there are a lot of different tones on the album!), but I cannot get anywhere near James' core thick, somewhat muddy/dark tone best demonstrated in the intro to The House that Jack built.... it eludes me! I'm wondering if it's worth giving the Puppet Master a go?
Top vid, as always 👍👏
Maestro!!!!
Great tones. I bought that pedal after watching your previous Master of Puppets video. I hope you do an AJFA tone video with this pedal someday.
How cute the little birdy is. 😍
It would be cool to hear you do a guitar and bass cover of Outlaw Torn and/or Bleeding Me.
The secret of this glorious tone it s the stilelleto from mesa, such a great amp for that greassy marshally US vibe
I love my Mesa Mark V. Beautiful birds aswell
I often forget about these albums honestly. Much prefer the early stuff but there are some great songs on these albums. Gonna have to go listen to them again!.
Love Mango! Haha. So cute. Seems Ollie doesn't like that song too 😂 takes your pick so you can't play haha. Great stuff mate!
Those two albums don’t get the love they deserve. They were like a new, darker sort of southern hard rock
This is amazing man! I actually used my Boss GT100 and used the modern rectifier preamp and done some EQ'n similar to this and got a really close tone. You have a fantastic ear that's for sure. Would you ever attempt some of Metallicas more recent tones?
