I seriously don't understand how people expect musicians who started so early to keep the same sound/style. I could never imagine being a full grown 30 year old man trying to copy exactly what I did when I was 18/19.
Agree. I feel alot of bands shoot themselves in the foot not trying to expand how they have grown as musicians. Song writing shouldn't be black and white all the time, it gets boring. It's like when Steven Tyler asked Axl Rose if Guns is going to make another "Welcome to the Jungle?" Like how boring if Guns did that. Lmao
@@c.f.pedraza4057 yea can’t blame them sometimes, especially when fans are constantly pressuring them to regress back to their old style. Metallica kinda proved that doesn’t work with death magnetic, it’s a great album but you can feel them trying to rekindle the MoP style of song writing. Hardwired feels a lot more natural as far as overall song writing goes.
Hearing an almost 60-year old making a song about seeking and destroying would be asinine. With a 19-year old, it makes perfect sense. We all grow up, like it or not. I used to like Styx but now they sound like garbage to me.
Welcome to Slayer, real metal
@@scottfoster161 i dont wanna grow up, because if i did.....
I wouldnt be a metallica kid.
Load and reload, I fell in love with straight away when it first came out and still love it in 2022.
Us too. We like how there are different types of Metallica to listen to for different moods
Ain't my bitch is great
@@daveg4236 it's good but not the best song on Load
Me too
@@covid19alpha2variantturboc7 I agree. The best is King Nothing.
I'll forever defend Load and Reload. Are they as good as Master of Puppets? Obviously not. But the riffs are heavy, the solos on songs like Bleeding Me and King Nothing are great, and the overall production sounds huge.
That which sucks needs defending.
You pretty much just said that it sucks but won't fully accept it.
They are better than Master of Puppets.
Well, from my point of view they're just a different kind of good which doesn't necessarily mean they are worse or better than their work before.
You start off by saying it's not even as good as another album. That's not a great defense of them lol.
I think there are some great songs on Load and reload. Outlaw Torn on Load and Memory Remains on Reload are two of my favorite Metallica songs ever. I like every phase Metallica went through. I think when Metallica cut their hair, everyone directed all their focus and attention on Metallica’s new look instead of Metallica’s new music. I think some people didn’t even give Load and Reload a chance. Shame.
I have a playlist on my iphone which is all the best songs off load and reload, cutting out all the lame filler songs and its a pretty great metallica album. Yes its a fundamentally different style than their previous sound but what is a band that sticks around as long as they have that never changes? You end up with tool. A band around for decades, rarely puts out an album and when they do its clear they havent made any progress. Every album of theirs sounds the same. Metallica at least tried to change. Thats what i also like about rush. They changed a LOT.
I always felt like if we want a metal metallica album we can just go listen to their previous work. That's kind of how I think they approach that as well.
Outlaw torn is pretty awesome. I think for Re load though , there is not as much good material to choose from. Prince Charming is a nice deep cut .. Fuel and memory I think they knew could be radio friendly and live show friendly.. But its all the B side stuff from them that is their best stuff on almost all their records
@@dankolbenschlag2188 Fixxxer is underrated, as are Unforgiven II and Low Man’s Lyric
I think LOAD is better than ReLOAD. But both of them are very good. It is a shame That even Metallica themselves, neglect those albums.
Alternate video title: "Bob Rock talks about how long it takes to release two loads."
My two loads take 30 minutes to make

Used to HATE both albums but now I love them , time has been very kind to both albums.
I now put the Unforgiven 2 in my top 10 Metallica songs
😳
Brilliant song. Mama Said is also in my top ten Metallica songs
"Until It Sleeps" was the first song on "Load" that hooked me. "The Devil's Dance" was the song on "Reload" that hooked me. Must've been a sucker for a slow and heavy since "Sad But True".
Straight up! That clean riff in the beginning is on the same level as “mama I’m coming home” it’s beautiful in a sad kind of way
@Dane Brackvitch I don't work like that , something has to be grabbing me for me to keep returning to it
Sure there are a couple of songs that maybe could have been left out but I dig pretty much everything on both albums.
When I let go of the" this doesn't sound like and justice for all" I took them for what they are. Great hard rock albums.
Fixxxer was one of the first songs I'd ever heard from Metallica. A childhood friend had Reload and was like "you gotta hear this song! It's about Voodoo." I'd never heard anything like that before. It was absolutely mesmerizing.
Load Supremacy😎🔥💪
I always felt like that those songs on Load and Reload reflected what was really going on inside of their heads and how they think about stuff. James opened up about himself with songs like bleeding me, fixxxer or outlaw torn which i really loved. Kirk always loved blues. Lars had the best fill ins ever and had really worked on himself. And Jason was just a chameleon, he could play anything and everything. And live they really had a huge catalogue to play and choose from, it was like a kid in a candy store.
Hell i even heard them playing No remorse, damage inc and other cool forgotten songs on those tours ...plus the new stuff always sounded more in your face when they played it live. They could do what they want and so they did.
Agreed. Say what you will about the studio albums, but those Load/ReLoad songs crushed it live. Watch Cunning Stunts and tell me those songs didn't frickin' melt your face.
@@mattdad8429 Cunning Stunts was awesome besides James little voice cracks here and there. But the vibes of that audience was just breathtaking and the setlist was a cool mix between old and new.
What are you talking about? Load and re load had the worst guitar tones and drum fills ever and was only topped by St Anger. Lyrically Load and reload where great but the rest was meh.
@@xrt7874 idk i like what bob rock did with their sound. Yeah sure it was a bit less "metal" and more moody and mellow i get where youre coming from with your opinion. But at this point in 1996 metallica just could do whatever they want an celebrated their creativity and musical freedom...metal was pretty much dead in this era and everyone was going in all different directions to experiment and got a little less serious about the stiff narrow minded metal community. Some songs didnt catch me right away but whenever i put those records on in the summer time it really gets me in the feel good hard rock mood.
I will always keep saying...Bob Rock gave Metallica their best sonically albums till date
100% man. I love how Motley Crue were the make up wearing, Sunset strip glam band that Metallica were the polar opposites of, but after James & Lars listened to the Dr Feelgood album they couldn't believe how big it sounded that's when they called in Bob and the rest is history. Without all of the polish and bells & whistles, I'd love to hear what Bob could do with Justice. We can all agree the songs are great and the bass is turd. It deserves better than that imo
And their worst, probably. But I still love St Anger, maybe even more because of its sound, it's a weird thing really
@@HeavyMetalLukex I feel the same way about that album. It’s like a terrible movie that later gets a cult following.
LOAD/RE-LOAD... MASTERPIECE ALBUMS! LOVE THESE ALBUMS! THESE ALBUMS HELPED ME ALOT CUZ I WAS GOING THROUGH ALOT WITH MY OTHER HALF AT THE TIME... GREAT ALBUMS!🎼🤘👊💯🎸🎶
Loved Load/ ReLoad . . that was my early to mid 20s years so those albums representing those times. Oh yeah, remember those CD singles , CD Imports & bootlegs . . . pretty genius of Met & QPrime to include the Load era MetallicA to have live versions of the OLD stuff too (Kill/ Ride Medley, Motorhead covers).
Great albums, 2 of my favorites
I loved those two albums. Don’t care what anyone thinks lol. The bluesy riffs were great!
My introduction to Metallica was to ReLoad back in '99 when I was four, alongside with a tape or Kill em All, both from my older cousins. I distinctly remember liking ReLoad/Load more as the video clips and the music were trippy af, and to this day, when I watch Cunning Stunts and the making of Black Album it brings back my early childhood
I think Load is a masterpiece. I think ReLoad is great. I like the Bluesy Hard Rock! While some people were upset, I was excited to hear their diversity.
Load was more than enough... I took em 20 years to get back to groove with hardwired.
I think you don't know much about metal music. But who cares...
@@PozerKiller Metal music comes from metal instruments, like trumpets, can we enter your cool trve kult now?
Holy crap I see you on literally every single Metallica related video

If another band released load it would be hauled as a masterpiece....and it is
I´d say even if a band like Exodus or Testament cuted their hair and released Load it´d be reggarded as the most fantastic move on metal, growing up and that (Wich Exodus tried on 92´ anyway lol)... but was Metallica, it was bounded to get hate, but like Metallica it last forever
@@zippydooda summer garbage.
It is a good album, but is far from being a masterpiece
Personally, I like Re-Load better if I had to pick between the two
It would’ve been better as one album. And if it wasn’t their only new music in a period of a decade. I would’ve been disappointed as a fan back then
everything fell exactly as it should, i ADORE load and reload, the older you get the finer they sound
I like how you put the word adore in all caps but didn't capitalize Load and Reload lmao
I remember when Load and Reload came out and yes people were more focused on Metallicas new hair cuts. Both albums are great and I still enjoy them in 2022.
Outlaw torn ,mama said ,until it sleep
,hero of the day, ain't my bitch and house jack built are amazing. The others are also very good I love it
I still remember going to the record store to get the black album. I was shocked to see a huge line of people and from all races, blacks, mexicans, asians, you name it. It was really cool to see everybody talking about it while waiting in line. I remember thinking "wow... is this a consequence of the AJFA album?"... maybe it was the MTV coverage, who knows but it was such an interesting thing, the black album was such a phenomena.
I know everybody says “simpler times man"....but like, it's sooo true in that nowadays new music drops straight to your phone...there's no community about going to the record store and only having that one physical copy to get played and fun stolen by your friends to put in their CD players too...it just added to the experience
@@lillagahnavich7700 Exactly, it was an experience and you made great memories because of that.
I like these clips but can you provide the source of the interview to listen to the whole interview?

Say what you want about the music on Load, the production on that record is brilliant.
It's better than the black album in many ways. If you listen to the black album all the way through and then listen to Load, you can tell within the first few seconds the production was better.
@@mattdad8429 I'm a Load fan too. Underrated record for sure.
Thanks Bob !!! 👍🏻
The production on these albums highly underrated
I think if they had taken the top five or six from both and made one it would have been one incredible album. There are about 5 songs between the two that I find really hard to listen to mostly due to James singing
Elaborate. Which one's really worked for you and which ones didn't?

@@mattdad8429 fixxer is incredible, heavy as f/;k, outlaw torn, bleeding me , unforgiven II
Fantastic records
The thing about Load/Reload is that there is a total of 27 songs between the 2 records, but there's about 17-19 really great songs between them.
How many albums can you say have all or even mostly good tracks, even by huge bands?
Some of my favorite bands have some dead tracks on a lot of their albums, but that doesn't take away from the ones that are good. And I usually find that someone else enjoyed the tracks I didn't for one reason or another.
Hell, I hear St. Anger almost everyday because a guy I work with uses a speaker, and has a very small playlist, and I hate that song, but he seems to love it
What songs in your opinion don’t cut it?
@@dimitripapadopoulos3196
These are the ones I generally skip over, but I've listened to them plenty on Load:
Until it sleeps
Hero if the Day
Mama Said
Thorn Within
Off Load my favorites are probably
2 x 4
King Nothing
Bleeding Me
Ronnie
The rest of them I like ok.
Reload? The ones I don't like?
Unforgiven 2
Where the Wild things are
Low Man's Lyric
The rest of the album I really dig
I put Reload over Load by a fair margin. The only song I'll generally skip is Fuel, only because I've heard ot a million times.
My favs off the album?
Devil's Dance
Slither
But I really love the whole thing except those 3 songs.
@@iamthem.a.n.middleagednerd1053 yeah I’m similar except I like Mama Said.
I like Load and Re-Load. They're better than a lot of other bands diversion albums, and I like the country-blues-metal sound quite a bit. There are some killer tracks on those albums too, Memory Remains live always get's a great reception. Outlaw Torn is another personal favorite, but honestly I could listen to Load start to finish any time, Re-Load not quite so much, but still a decent listen. I really like the Garage Inc covers too, nobody ever seems to mention those though, I'm not sure why
Unpopular opinion... Puppets is my favorite Metallica album, and Load is my second favorite. I absolutely love it.
And Reload?
🤨
Load is my favourite album, easy listening
his 3 albuns with then are by far my favorites
when was this first recorded and broadcasted ?
Load is my fav metallica album.
I enjoyed both albums very much.
i reckon if load and reload were one album of the best tracks and the rest were released as B sides it would have been a classic
Can someone point me to the podcast/interview this was from?
Despise what many people think Metallica went to older influences while making this albums rather than the alternative scene, James, other than some country, was really into Sabbath, Kyuss, and other stoner bands at the time, Kirk was riding the blues scene as well
Outlaw torn is my favorite song in the world 🌎
Incredible albums
Fans who don't wanna see their fave bands grow in their instruments and experiment with new things than they're not really fans.
Unforgiving -2 , was the first song I heard of Metallica . Life was never the same after
I liked these records. Two of my favorite tallica records tbh.
At the time, I remember thinking that Load was a great album that I wished had been released by a different band. I’m fine with it now, but I think many people were kinda shocked by it back then
Both albums are good. Of course they’re not justice or MoP but I like James’ country phase he’s a good enough musician to pull a style like that off. “Waste my hate” is also a banger.
I’d love to work with this guy
At some point I stopped expecting things from bands and started asking myself: "Is this good music?" Is this something that I enjoy listening too and the band seemed to put an honest effort into? ....and yes I think Load and Reload fits into good music. Is it their magnum opus? Probably not, but its a nice addition to their body of work and I really enjoy listening to load and reload back to back. Same goes with Tool's Fear Inncoculum, Megadeth's Risk, Slayer's Diabolus in musica, and Machine head supercharger. They're just good bands.
Load and Reload are way better work than the others you mentioned.
If they would have made just one album, with the best tracks from Load and Reload, it'd have been good imho.
Two great albums that are underated
Funny that they were written and recorded same time, but Load always sounded superior. I suppose because they chose the best tunes first no doubt.
Load so good. \m/
I don't like either the records but I like the fact that Metallica took a chance and didn't give a shit. Most bands are too busy trying to make all their little Fanboys/girls happy.
I actually will listen to these two albums over the black album any day. I could go the rest of my life without ever hearing enter sandman again.
By the fact Reload is more interesting and well produced album than previous ones.
They should have done what Jasonic suggested, but five years earlier. And James should have done a solo country record.
Load and Reload got me into Metallica originally....
So i heard Met Baught all ther Rites to the Masters frm Bob!!Like 250million??
Crazy!! If they didnt?
fckn you’d Hear Enter Sandman on a Coppertone Suntan lotion Comercial!!🤷🏽😊🤙🏼🙌🏽👊🏽💥🎶🎶🎶
In my opinion that was the best thing they could’ve done because they weren’t going to repeat themselves and do another thrash album, another black album. They did something different and hey, there’s some good songs on those 2 albums.
Ronnie…kick ass song!
He's right about Rumours
Robert Stone is awesome.
I adore those two albums Load has some amazing! tracks on how can people bash them?
As soon as I knew that Fleming wasn't going to be on the next album after Justice, I knew the game was over.
There are a bunch of songs off of both of those albums that are great.
Two brilliant albums imo.
Should have whittled it down to one great album with a couple bonus tracks. There’s definitely some pus songs on these records but still plenty of absolute killer material. I think low man’s lyric is one of their most underrated songs ever.
If they had had released low mans lyrics as a video it would have been bigger than nothing else matters. Change my mind
@@P3rm4frost low man’s lyric was a song I listened to repeatedly when I battled my sobriety issues years back… my girl was ready to quit on me.. it was a rough time. I’ve never connected with any song as much as I did with that one. That and “ Bleeding me “ were anthems during those times. Everything is great now. But I can’t be the only one who felt that song as hard as I did
Load and Reload are their best albums.
How bout those tours?!?! COC?!? Jerry Cantrell!??! Fuck yeah!!!
Load is a brilliant album. If another band had made it, like a small/no-name alt-rock/indie band for instance, it's possible it would have been hailed as a masterpiece. If that small alt-rock/indie band had released it today, it *_WOULD_* have been hailed as a masterpiece. The thing that killed its reputation, was the fact that it was the biggest metal band in the world that released it, at a time when classic heavy metal was being infringed on by artsy and angsty bands. The only song on it I think is relatively weak, is "Cure" - but that is still a good song.
"Until It Sleeps" (a song I rank just behind "Master of Puppets" - don't @me, I don't care; it's f***ing brilliant!), "Bleeding Me" (the song I rank just behind "Until it sleeps" - yup, it's my third most beloved Metallica song), "Mama Said", "Poor Twisted Me", "Wasting My Gate", "The Outlaw Torn", "Thorn Within"... these are songs that most rock bands can only dream wet dreams of making. But because it was Metallica, people thought they were bad. IMO, Load has always been up there with the Black Album and just below Master of Puppets. Yup, I said it. I think it's one of the greatest metal albums ever released.
Reload is less solid, but still a good one, and the highlights are right up there with the better ones from Load, but below the absolute best. "The Memory Remains", "Devil's Dance", "The Unforgiven II" and "Low Man's Lyric" (a ridiculously underrated rock ballad - I'd put it at my personal Top 5) are my favourites from it.
However, I've noticed that a lot of people are coming around to both albums nowadays. I'm guessing the statute of limitations on liking the albums is about up, making it "okay" to not consider them bad. 🙂 I honestly think that the songs on Load are standing the test of time significantly better than the overall quality of the Lightning, Justice and KEA albums; and I absolutely *LOVE* those albums.
he says cant go back , i say bullshit , death magnetic was them going back / looking back and its the best thing they did after black album if you ask me , feels like a fallow up to and justice to me
Black album, Load and Reload are all I need when it comes to Metallica
I like both albums. This is an autobiographical album they made free of the genre.
Load doesn't hold up very well but Reload has some great songs which still sound good today
Load and Reload are my favorite Metallica albums, by miles. No apologies! 🖖😀
Hey, it’s Jericho
2 amazing records. Metallica never did a bad record imo (not counting LuLu)
I feel like a lot of the riffs on LOAD and RELOAD sound like they reached further back to 70s Rock and Metal (Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc).
There was definitely a southern rock and country influence on Load.
Not so much on Reload (except on Unforgiven 2)
@@covid19alpha2variantturboc7Fuel, Better than you, Attitude, Prince Charming, Bad seed, Southern blues rock attempts.
I don’t really like anything after the black album, but that’s just me. I fully understand that not everyone has the same taste and opinion and that’s ok, there’s is audience for everting, even for the things that I don’t like.
Some Truths : 1) classic Metallica songs came out of these two records. 2) The most beautiful hidden diamonds of their catalogue are included in these two albums.
3) It demanded huge balls to be Metallica and after black to be clever enough not yo release black 2 but sth more hard rock but heavy 4) 1996-1997-1998 Metallica already knew what musically will follow and they did it first. They played straight 60s-70s and musically this is what follow the 00s 10s
I love the albums. It's Metallica they are cool albums.
Also Bob rock: so I read metallicas music and I threw it all away and made them play this instead.
The music equivalent of "so anyway I started blasting..."
Don't you want a BANANA STICKER?
The only thing about those two albums I'm a bit disappointed with is the guitar sound. For my ears it's a little too thin. A bit heavier tone would make a lot of tunes stand out
Guitar tone is heavy as Sabbath, it's just not as trebly and scooped as their 80s counterpart.
Load/ReLoad are the real Metallica and the best things they've ever done.
Dire albums
Funny thing is, despite all the hate those albums got/get, they still sold millions of copies. Not to mention, regardless Metallica are still the biggest metal band, numbers don't lie and opinions mean nothing.
Change?!?! Noooo, metalheads cant change!!!!!
😂
I wonder what james would say if you could go back in time and show him the load stuff....he'd probably quit on the spot
We bought that shit anyway... and we still listen to it.
As far as I'm concerned, Metallica took an extended hiatus between Justice and Death Magnetic.
Death Magnetic is lame and cliche as fuck, not to mention absolutely appaling mix and mastering.
What a lot of people don't understand is that with cliff burton they reached a higher level of art with ride and master and without him the band was inferior to continue merely trying to reach that level of music. And this is sad but true. Cliff rules.
😂hilarious watching you try to pass your opinion off as ‘truth’. Hey, you think they sucked after Cliff? More power to you. But the FACTS show that they got better at EVERYTHING as they progressed-and the public responded to this by giving them insane success and popularity.
I know…you’ll come back with something like ‘sales don’t mean anything. _____is huge and they suck’. Do us both a favour-don’t bother-I won’t argue facts vs opinion.. You’re wrong and it doesn’t apply here. Fact is, Cliff-era Metallica made some classic music that will last forever. They also made a lot self-indulgent of noise that only teenage metal-heads could relate to. They got better and grew up-you should try the same.
@@glengamble526 sales don’t mean anything. metallica is huge and they suck
The only album that Metallica made that I didn't like was Saint anger and lulu Load and reload have good songs they're not the 1st 5 albums but they're still good
If you like grunge, I can see how you'd like load and reload. But if your main genre of music is metal, I can't understand how you'd like either album. Or anything metallica has made in the past three decades.
They recorded 32 songs??? That means 5 were left out...
Could be some cover songs there too (they recorded those 4 Motörhead covers found on Garage Inc. in 1995 'Motörheadache'), but what about 'No leaf clover' and 'Human' which they played on S&M1? Might have been those and some others?
How can u claim to fame the Outlaw and Nothing yet Load still receives criticism...Metallica fans are weird.
Those albums were so bad that I don't think I bought any of the albums that followed. I dumped the Reload CD in a walmart parking lot in less than a day of owning it.
I like Load and Reload. But I loathe the album covers. I also include the Black album. Can't even see the rattlesnake and the Metallica logo.
But it's a good album .
These albums aren’t too bad. It reminds me of how people love Star Wars episodes 1-3 again because of how horrible the new movies are.
I find reload pretty boring but load is 7/10 for me I just think some songs shouldve been cut
The problem is not that Metallica changed, they were always going to change. The problem is that Bob Rock psyched and massaged them into the mainstream as they went through their musical evolution and helped make them less as a band, and more of a sellout version of what otherwise could have been a deeper, richer more artistic and musically expressive band.
Metallica has every right to their choices in life and how things ended up was how they chose their journey, it's not up to me but I'm not buying this crap that nobody wanted change - we wanted sincere, genuine music, not McDonald's mainstream pop metal.
