I fully expected that this story would end with one of the abusers killing Katie. What a tremendous relief to hear that not only had she survived, but she had done so victoriously and has gone on to have a great life. What a strong little girl and I am so glad that her story turned out the way it did. She deserves some happiness for a change. Thanks for sharing this story, Emma.

Just started watching - saw your comment but “a sort of happy ending” is important & valuable beyond measure to me and most likely everyone of us ❤️ so even though you wrote an amazing comment, summarizing the whole essence of today’s episode, as I’m continuing writing I do really feel like a “small and petty person”.
I could erase this comment but no, sometimes it’s good to see yourself (I’m referring to myself) with flaws.

This one literally had me sobbing near the end. I'm so glad that she managed to be for her children what she so desperately longed for during her own childhood.

This case was close to my heart because I can relate so much to parts of Katie's story. It gives me the warm fuzzies to know she is doing so well now. I had never heard of this case Em so thank you for covering it.
Finally I want to say I totally agree with the statement that we survivors should not carry the guilt of the actions of others.... it was a hard lesson to learn for me personally but like Katie, I got there eventually. Now I try to support other survivors so as to remind them.

There is a petition to keep him behind bars but as it’s a local one for us, I would be really interested in what you had to say about him, to refresh the case maybe, make people aware of him, and for a change you would be spoiled for choice in picking what you wanted to add in the edit, I’m just sayin like, there’s a lot! Myself and my brother were both sexually abused by a church member, my two daughters were sexually abused by uncle and my youngest raped aged 8 by the uncle, he pled guilty to touching my eldest and not guilty for the rape so dragged through court , hung jury so back again and not guilty. We've been through hell and back she went off the rails but is now doing so well, driving and mortgage at 19 :-) The things is kids don't talk , myself and brother didn't tell anyone until I was 18. Who can you trust anymore even the justice system

So sad to think about when she was released: usually there would be a parent or guardian who would rush to her side, who she'd really want to see because they loved her, yet she was let down by everyone up to that point and essentially came out of that alone. Good to hear she's doing well now.

Emma, As a CSA survivor, I very much appreciate the information you pass on to your viewers. I know there is no shame I need to feel for what I went through. That belongs to the perpetrator. Your compassion is evident and the awareness you spread is priceless. A lot of things may not make sense to someone who has never experienced these kinds of traumas and especially experiencing them as a child. Thank you for all you do.
Katie is one hell of an amazing person and a true survivor!

I am so glad that she was able to overcome her horrible trauma and able to achieve everything she wanted. Seeing the picture of her with her kids and her husband was such a beautiful ending to such a tragic story. She is absolutely an inspiration and true warrior.

Oh Emma you are the best at telling these stories in a way that really gets the audience invested in the victims. I am literally in tears and wish I could just go back and hug 10 year old Katie. And God bless those foster parents for really giving her a good home after the hell she lived through.

Very moving episode. Well done for covering this one, so well.
What an incredibly strong and amazing person she is. I’m just horrified that her abusers were not locked up and the key thrown away?! As a victim of childhood sexual abuse, I am happy to report that my abuser got 24 years, and that was 42 years after the event. Never give up! There are more good people in the world than bad ❤️

When my twins were toddlers, we had just moved, and I met the next door neighbor who started patting my boys on the head and talking about how beautiful they were, and offered to babysit. It made my hair stand on end. NO ONE sees twin toddlers and thinks, "I want to babysit." I politely declined. He had a young son, but I didn't trust him. All the kids in the complex were always at his apartment. I asked a boy who was coming out of the apartment one day what was in the apartment, and his eyes lit up as he listed all the toys and games and treats. And every other parent just adored this man. One day, a mom was running around frantic looking for her daughter and was told by another parent that the girl was in this man's apartment, and she was immediately relieved and said, "oh, thank goodness!" and went home without even checking!
I really needed an, "Is it just me?" T-shirt.

Going into such a confined space would be nightmare enough but so much worse not knowing when or if you’d ever come out . The hug she gave him on her release was a measure of the genuine humanity of the arguments she deployed in encouraging him to release her .

Not sure I can make it to the end. Holding back so many tears, that pain in the throat. Oh, what this poor woman went through as a girl. And, to see that as a mother, you did it mama. You made it and your babies are good, happy, and safe! What an amazing story of strength and love!

By the end of this I'm absolutely grinning. What an amazing woman. As someone who's also gone through abuse and rape while a minor, though to a much lesser extent, her resilience is incredible to me, and she has shown me that I can find wholeness too. Katie Beers is my new hero, absolutely.
Thank you so much for sharing her story, Emma, and for telling it with such sensitivity and passion. You have this ability to really touch people when you speak, even though you're talking about the most heinous crimes. But I love that every so often you insert these stories of survival against the worst odds, of hope and of the incredible stregnth we as humans possess even when we feel our weakest. So thankful I clicked on this video today.

I am in the process of preparing my mother's house for sale, she passed away a year ago, and I'm still struggling. I am always looking for a distraction when I take a break as I need a disconnect from what I'm doing. While this may sound odd, I welcome the alert that you have a video uploaded. The way you present these cases is unlike any other creator I have watched. You share such empathy for the victims while sharing the details, while often horrific, with insight like no other. Katie, what an incredibly strong young person, a fighter.
