I have been doing this for about 5 years now and didn't know about changing the upper thread tension I'm glad I watched. Thank you Christa Love your teaching!!!❤
I am really looking forward to these videos. The quality is great, the pace is just right, and I like the bite-sized approach so I can practice a couple of designs each week to add to my skills. Thank you for creating these for us!
I have had a couple of your books for several years and was able to attend one of your classes at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I have a new Q16 Bernina sit down long arm and am ready to learn and grow in 2025. Your videos are so needed and I am excited about this year's journey with you.
This is awesome! I look forward to watching all of these videos! I've done some Walking Foot and FMQ and can already see an improvement! You're such a great teacher! Thank you!
Thank you for this series. I have your "Machine Quilting with Style" book, and the Kindle version of "99 Machine-Quilting Designs". Very excited to work through this with your tips and expertise. I have used your videos several times to help me quilt quilts.
I purchased my Bernina 590 for this exact reason! While I like to have my quilts done by a long arm quilter - I feel that they are not completely my creation. This is why I want to get better at quilting with my domestic machine. I am so happy I came across this video this morning.
You can do it! 99 Designs is only available as a PDF download and you can get it here: www.etsy.com/shop/ChristaQuilts?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=52167752
Thanks for the machine setting tutorial. That was helpful. I wish I could do the sandwiching on a wall, but don’t have a wall that works. I’m thinking of going back to safety pin basting or stitch basting because I found the 505 spray left a sticky residue on nearby items. I have your books and have watched your videos before, so I’m getting better at FMQ and drop down dual feed quilting. I still need to work on doing better with larger quit,s though. And I have found glide thread works on my machine without breaking or causing other issues. I tried a lot of threads, but glide was the only one that didn’t break constantly. I have a Juki 3000 qvp, so I guess it’s just the machine.
Be sure to watch my basting tutorial showing how to spray baste on a table if you don't have a wall. Here's a link to the youtube video: ua-cam.com/video/79GS-LwKRjA/v-deo.htmlsi=nOa6IxRYKVzc6tdB
Prepare some quilt samples, grab a copy of the 99 Designs book, and make sure your machine has a walking foot that fits and you know how to use it. Then you'll be all set! www.etsy.com/shop/ChristaQuilts
Great questions!! It depends on the design. If I'm FMQ an edge to edge design, I don't need to anchor quilt because I'm filling in all the spaces as I go. However, if I'm custom quilting, the anchor stitching helps hold the quilt together and prevent shifting as I scrunch and smoosh. Yes, basting is an important part, but it's a temporary hold; the quilting is permanent.
Just grab the book and prepare some practice samples and you'll be all set! You can also practice attaching your walking foot and free motion foot to your machine, to make sure they fit :-)

Very informative, thank you.
Thanks for watching!
What do I need to do to prepare for the next week?
Prepare some quilt samples, grab a copy of the 99 Designs book, and make sure your machine has a walking foot that fits and you know how to use it. Then you'll be all set! www.etsy.com/shop/ChristaQuilts
Thank you, Christa! A question… Why do you stitch anchor seams? Isn’t spraybasting enough when you FMQ on a domestic sewing machine? Thanks.
Thank you!! I am practicing the weekly designs along with the videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Great initiative!
@@reneegosselin1595 My pleasure. Practice makes progress!!
How long can u wait after u spray each piece to put them all together.
You don't have to quilt them immediately. They'll stay stuck for quite awhile!
Christa, love your videos! Is this book out of print? How do I obtain a copy?
You can get the pdf version here:
www.etsy.com/listing/1540420389/99-machine-quilting-designs-digitalebook?
do you know if the box your thread from Piece & quilt is in can be bought empty?
No that I know of but you can always contact Aurifil and ask.
Do we need to do anything in preparation for Week 2?
Just grab the book and prepare some practice samples and you'll be all set! You can also practice attaching your walking foot and free motion foot to your machine, to make sure they fit :-)
