- How ancient Israelites thought about the institution of kingship is deeply rooted in the ancient Near Eastern ideology of kingship. Kings were viewed as extensions of the rule of deities, the providers of life and welfare and order. Kings ensured that life for the people under his (and the deity’s) rule went along as it was intended. Trees were emblematic of these ideas, as they spoke of the fertility of the land, the presence of life in an otherwise arid, hostile environment, and a metaphorical connection between heaven and earth. In this episode of the podcast we interview Dr. William (“Rusty”) Osborne, an expert in this kingship metaphor, to help us navigate these concepts.

I always thought trees looked majestic. Now I understand why
I was really hoping to hear a correlation made between trees and people as it is expressed in the scripture; moreover I was hoping to hear connections uncovered linking trees to the Garden as they are undoubtedly representative of the attributes produced in nations as well as individuals as pertaining to the fruits of the spirit or the fruits of unrighteousness as seen in the wicked. Zion being the cornerstone example of Gods tree growing to produce fruit as seen in Christ and then again at a future harvest when the church has come to full maturity.
I bet he covered a lot more in the conference, which I wish I had known about at the time. What a treasury!
Does anyone know what the picture of these birds in this video means?
The Christian Cowboy, I believe it represents how all the other Bible teachers and Preachers are all "Winging" it..., creating all the confusion that abounds today, and how Dr. Heiser is a Beacon of Truth bridging the world views of the Bible writer's world view with our own world view.
Now, I could be wrong but... that's the way I choose to see it.
The Christian Cowboy they're cherubim, commonly associated with the presence of Yahweh. They're not birds 🤦🏻♂️
Oh, I thought it had something to do with divination and hepatoscopy . They don't look like cherubs to me, but then again, I am not a visual person, I'll take your word on that. Thank you...
The Christian Cowboy what does a cherub suppose to look like?
Well in Ezekiel 28:14 Satan is described as a Cherub. In the garden of Eden the Serpent is believed to be a Seraph. Both are throne guardians. I think the Babylonians would see a Cherub, they are part man part bull. I think the singular may be just one face opposed to the four in other throne room descriptions.
Just brilliant. Truly ignored this scholarship
