    About 15 years ago, I was struggling with my faith. Some of the text critical questions were eating at me. In desperation, I reached out via email to Dr. Wallace with some questions. He called me and talked to me for hours. I will always be thankful for his life and mininistry.

    I just posted today's devotional on my personal page and I was so uneasy because as a new teacher I gave my first message encouraging my audiance to question the authority of the scripture as a Christian. I sited catholic, Mormon, and johova witness perspectives on the Bible compared to protestants. In all honesty I was uneasy knowing a decent chunk of my audiance is Mormon and catholic. While I was editing the video I recieved a push notification. Psalms 31:24 be strong in the Lord. I am not a Christian, much less a sola scriptura evangelical. BUT, it seems clear to me that the secular enemies of Christianity will never cease attacking Christian sources, no matter what. It is a matter of ideology for them, not history. For example, even if someone were to discover, say, THE original manuscript of one of the Gospels, the secular academics would then object that there is no way of knowing if it accurately reflects the life and teaching of Jesus, or if it is just the original piece of propaganda.

  • @cammobox
    @cammobox Рік тому +6

    I definitely differ from Wallace on the question "how much do these variants affect your faith?" He said not at all. I say, "how can they not?" Doesn't it encourage us to see the attacks on God's word fall flat in the face of the facts? It's a huge encouragement to see how God has preserved His word despite the many attempts to destroy it. Even other religions whose texts we still have can't claim the fantastic history the GNT possesses. It really helps me to trust that I can know what God really said when I read the text of the bible, whether I'm reading in english or in greek.

    If you’re questioning the Bible’s preservation-maybe after hearing a skeptic like Erhman or a God-hater like Hitchens or Dawkins (who has actually mellowed in his old age, interestingly enough), or just questioning it for whatever reason-listen to this man. Wallace is the most trusted scholar in this regard, in my opinion. He puts a lot of apologists to shame because he sticks with the basics-the Scriptures-not science, not philosophy, not biology-the Bible itself. I have changed my apologetic approach since hearing him, knowing that where the Word is spoken, there is power-much more than the power of a man’s arguments.

    • @darapdiengdoh2179

      But the truth is the originals manuscript of the Bible doesn't exist anymore.

    • @maestroLovette
      @maestroLovette Рік тому +1

      @@darapdiengdoh2179 Wallace (and many others) have demonstrated that the original reading of the first manuscripts is preserved --that is, when you compare all of the thousands of manuscripts, and find this astounding 99.98% agreement in the entirety of the them (with all major doctrines of Christianity preserved), and when you look at the motive of the writers the motive of the copiers in light of their context (a time of persecution and yet intense devotion to Christ, with heresy quickly dealt with before it consumed the church, as even followers of the apostles and their students were alive in the time of our earliest manuscripts' scribes), and look at the early Christian writings a century or so later by those who knew one or more of the writers or their disciples----(e.g., Clement of Rome (c. 96 AD) quoted from several New Testament books in his letter to the Corinthians, including Romans, 1 Corinthians, and James.
      Ignatius of Antioch (c. 107 AD) quoted from several New Testament books in his letters, including Matthew, John, Romans, and 1 Corinthians; Justin Martyr (c. 150 AD) referred to the New Testament as "the memoirs of the apostles." This is important because it implies that he recognized that New Testament information came from eyewitnesses of Jesus, not just random stories from unknown people.
      Irenaeus (c. 180 AD)-the disciple of Polycarp (a disciple of John the Apostle)-listed the four Gospels, Acts, the thirteen letters of Paul, 1 Peter, and 1 John as the authoritative books of the New Testament. He also mentioned other New Testament books in his writings, such as James, 2 Peter, and Jude.)----when you look at all this, you can be confident that we have the original reading, as is found by comparing the texts and using the words that the most ancient and contextually-reliable manuscripts agree on. Is this a scientific experiment? No. You can't prove this in a lab. Faith is involved here. But it's reasonable.

    • @johns6704
      @johns6704 7 місяців тому

      @@darapdiengdoh2179 well of course they don't. They were written on the cheapest paper most likely. And were also probably the first ones thrown away as their usefulness was no longer needed. This would be true of any written material. But if you can see that from the years 250 through 2024 the text has not been meaningfully changed (also see in the history of christian artwork), then you can assume that the closer you get to the source the less and less variants there would be. And if between 250 and 2024 it was preserved than it was even more probable that the first 200 years they were preserved.

    I am traveling through the first 2 countries to adopt Christianity Armenia 301 AD and Georgia 326 AD and visited several ancient monasteries (One still active and founded in the 4th Century) has Daniel Wallace done any research in these countries?

    Is it possible to have Daniel B. Wallace work with Gary Habermas and you in a book? That would be something that I would love to see and read or see if the three of you were together discussing any topic on this.

    How do you take notes on what you find if you can't take an ink pen near the manuscripts?

    Hold up...! Sean Michael McDowell! Why did you not ask him to describe his experiences with exorcism?
