I was surprised (though I shouldnt have been) when several of my 'friends' would no longer *speak* to me when they asked if my bf and I are having sex and I said no.
I am apparently "old school" and my life style is "weird" and "childish"
and they couldnt associate with someone who wasnt "with the trends" or whatever (yeah I know I dodged a bullet here with them no longer speaking to me)
But the peer pressure is RIDICULOUS
My bf and I are both Christians (Baptist) and want to hold the values of Christ followers but also the research weve both done tell us that if this happens to not work out, we dont want to have to have the problems all our friends have. Either they cant move on, or when they do theyre constantly comparing their next partner to their last, physically, and sexually.
I mentor several middleschool-highschool age girls, at my church, and my heart was broken when the 12 year old told me that she has already had sex, with a 14 year old, because she was bullied when she didnt have a "body count" She said she knew that we believe it shouldnt be done but felt so alone and disgusting because of the hate she received.
This should not be something kids that age or really anyone under age should even be thinking about doing , much less be peer pressured into.
Yes by all means educate children *on their own bodies* but that doesnt mean you should be teaching them about *everything* that young. nor should there be any encouragement to do it until their married not for religious reasons, but MENTAL
Studies show that kids are traumatized and then their self esteem goes down when stuff like this happens and then they feel worthless...
Its just heartbreaking that this is the world we live in now, where kids are between parents and then they also have to deal with peer pressure
I'm 31 and dated my wife at 19. The peer pressure existed back then too. Lost friends and seen as weird that I wasn't "smashing" the ladies in my "prime".

A religious marriage (in my country) is not illegal but when 2 people have a religious marriage they are still considered to be 2 single people (for the law).

In America just having the religious ceremony without the proper paperwork wouldn’t count legally, but pretty much every religious service would include marriage vows, which is what constitutes a wedding.

a civil wedding takes place in city hall and the 'no-fault' divorce takes place in a court room (in my country). Strange, right? I agree.
And on top of that, when 2 people will have a civil wedding they have to choose according to which "system" they both want to marry. The chosen 'system' will decide how a possible divorce will work out.
System A: (Dutch: trouwen in gemeenschap van goederen)
When a divorce will take place everything will be split 50-50.
System B (Dutch: trouwen op huwelijkse voorwaarden)
Divorce: everything that is yours, will stay/remain yours; everything that is owned by the partner will stay his/hers.
In short: a poor soul will remain poor after divorce. Obviously because what can and could the poor soul have contributed to the wealth of the rich person? Nothing !!!!

I’m a female and my body count is 1. I’m glad I never gave into hookup culture. It never seemed empowering to me. Just seems like people that are horny & care more about looks than a persons character & emotional connection. I’ve always preferred to share something so intimate as sex with someone that actually cares, loves, protects, respects me with similar values and morals.
As a male my body count is also at 1, but I can also admit and acknowledge that was a mistake and a poor judgment call on my part. I honestly should've waited longer than I did, but at least it was only 1 woman.

I’m 20 about to be 21 next week and I am still a virgin. I remember a lot of people making fun of me being a virgin. To the point where they thought that I was either gay or asexual, which I’m am neither.

When I was 18, I was talking to a woman at church who told she had brother and could set us up. I was clear with her that my goal was marriage and not dating for fun. When I met her brother, I told him the same thing. 11 1/2 months later, we got married with the full support of both our families. Babies then came when I was 21, 23, and 25.
Last year I turned 30 and did not dread it at all. I look back at my 20s with a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. Now that we are essentially out of the “survival years” as parents, I’m able to focus on personal goals and the art of homemaking more. We also homeschool and are self-employed which is the most fulfilling i career I could think of for myself since I actually do put my business management degree to use.

It saddens me to think of all the babies being brought into the world as an "accident". Im fifteen and the only Christian in my household. My mom attempted to have the “talk” with me the other day after my older brother lost his v-card, saying that if my older brother who is objectively unattractive is doing THAT, then it is likely I might too. I actually ended up crying while explaining I don’t want the talk or need it. Explaining that I plan to wait until marriage because that is what is acceptable in my eyes. She was in shock that I plan to wait because of how common it is for people to want THAT at my age.
When I was deconstructing and undecided between Christianity and Atheism, one thing I noticed about the YT videos on either side was that a video produced by an atheist would be titled something like "The Problem of Divine Hiddenness" and be an hour long. The Christian videos would say something like "This One Simple Argument Will Make You and All Your Friends Believe In God Forever" and the video is like 3 minutes long. I just couldn't help but notice that the atheist side generally maintained a much more respectful and nuanced approach to my questions than Christians did.

I’m 38. I didn’t get married until 32, and I remained a virgin until then. It was hard and I had a lot of self-pity at times, not going to lie. But it was WORTH it, a thousand times over. You will never regret refusing to give your body and intimacy away to someone who is not committed to you in marriage. Ever since grade school I was only interested in monogamous relationships, completely avoided hookups and online dating. I’m a 25 male, and have no intention of getting married. Don’t get me wrong, I do want to have a partner and a family. But the current divorce rates and the state of the family court just puts me off. It’s hard to justify marriage anymore
I don't mind finding myself a lifelong partner, living together, and possibly having a family, myself but marriage is literally out of the question and completely off the table. 80% of divorces are initiated by women, and in 90% of court cases, men lose half of everything they own, if not everything, which completely destroys them. All a women has to do is get bored, file for a divorce, and boom you're screwed. No chance in freaking hell I'm ever taking that risk.
Marriage at this point is nothing but a racquet for both women and the government to take you for everything you have. You can't lose if you don't play.

I was a virgin until I was 24 years old (34 years old now) by choice due to my christian faith at the time. I almost married a christian girl at 20 years old, but her family turned into absolute crazy control freaks which broke things up. Eventually, I joined the military and left religion, then decided to become sexually active. Honestly, it was kind of a disappointment based on all the hype, but I also think virginity or at least low body count in favor of serious dating sex only is much better compared to just sleeping around. I've been with a lot of women at this point, and it's kind of just whatever. I've also seen plenty of guys, religious or not, be in miserable marriages or get decimated through divorce. That said, I wish that I were one of the lucky ones that gets married young and makes it through, but alas, life's a real rollercoaster sometimes.

I may sound old on this but I remember being a teenager in the 80's. In my circle there were two groups of girls- one who was having sex and one who did not. The having sex group was smaller but somehow viewed as "cooler". If a girl had more than one or two she was labeled a slut and no one wanted to date. Now nearly 40 + years later, I see girls from the "having sex group" and honestly feel sorry for them. Most are on their second or third marriage if at all. As an Indian, I always felt suffocated whenever the social structure and rules and norms in India would prohibit men and women to "explore" before marriage. People still date, they do kiss and get intimate, but 90% of the women would still not consent to PIV sex, hookup culture is almost non-existent outside major metro cities. The number of average lifetime body count (~3 - one of the lowest in the world) should indicate how seriously these rules and norms are in effect. 30yr male, also body count of 1, and to be entirely honest, even that one was a mistake. In a roundabout way, it may have even cost me the love of my life, considering the way I acted at times, and the way things ended. Even though I know for a fact that I more than made up for it given what she said me long after we spilt, doesn't make me feel any less shitty about it because ultimately I can't take it back.
Also just clarify, no I did not cheat. My only ex gf was a long distance relationship and the woman I lost my virginity to, happened while my ex gf and I were friends, but we were not in a relationship and never expressed any actual feelings. That came later on after the fact. My ex even called me out on only talking to her when there were issues with the girl I was sleeping with, and while I could've been a dick to her and gotten upset, she was completely right and I told her straight up that she was right. @Annika Holmberg honestly at this point I think best course of action is find a plot of land get your parents or siblings invested. Grow some plants have chickens and a few other things. Then find someone who likes that lifestyle and bring their family into it. The eastern family commune thing really has a lot of merit expecially these days these own like every convienence store and stuff they in the empire business. I unfortunately relate so much especially because I want my future husband to be virgin too or else it wouldn't be special or meaningful to me. I'm so not into repeated love confessions and recycled promises that all previous women in his life have heard. And now supposedly "it's all different. I find this channel fascinating because it helps me understand the dating environment my son is living in .
I met their dad in my 20’s, did the career thing , and then had my boys in my mid to late 30’s .
I decided to raise them full time because it was far more satisfying and fulfilling to be present with them every day .
I left a career making 150,000, car ,expense account , assistant and 25-40k bonus in 2007. (I also studied for 9 years to have my career) , but once I had my boys , I was not willing to part with them for even an hour.
I think planning and prepared stages works well . We waited 10 years to have children, while we traveled and saved for our future .
Then I left the traditional work force and did some silent investing while my husband worked outside the home .
Fast forward to now , and my 16 year old son and I have a great relationship because I put the time in with him to connect. He tells me he wants to get married and have kids . He wants his wife to be an equal, and also raise kids together. I have a feeling he would want a more traditional path because he sees his dad and I have been together 25 years and he sees it work .
I told him the most important thing we need to do is set him up financially, so he can have the freedom to be a present father and husband . It starts with investing NOW. He’s doing the work to understand real estate and market investment NOW.
He’s not dating, and he doesn’t want to right now . He wants to focus on his future, and wait until he’s ready to consider a serious marriage minded relationship.
I’ve never told him what to do outside of financial advice , he has a mind of his own and I certainly could not persuade him to do ANYTHING he would not want . I like knowing my example may have influenced his decision making to now .
Im just so happy to have had the chance to SHOW him what balance a good relationship andfamily and financial planning looks like ,so he can choose a partner with shared values and be fulfilled with the love and respect of a partner that is equally invested in the sanctity of a marriage and children .
When you find someone who puts you first , honors and respects you , takes the time to listen and is great company, know everything else will come together with time .

As a 19 year old woman who's happily a virgin I know if we knew the exact numbers of everyone body count on top of our heads it would easier and embrassing at the same time. I think our views on marriage have been severely tainted by those who came before us. We are an entire generation of people who watched our parents’ marriages fail, and grew up in broken homes or with “bonus” parents. Having an example of strong, lasting & loving marriage is scarce amongst millennials and Gen Z. No wonder no one values it anymore. I’m not saying this frees us of personal responsibility in relationships, but it does give a clue to how we’ve gotten to this point.
Sad but true. My parents had a messy divorce when I was 7, and the things I’ve seen and heard married couples do and say to one another…lmao I feel like I’m completely disillusioned. Guess that’s a big reason why I’m 37 and never been married 🤣

Gen X here. It started to become very common for our parents (boomers) to stay married until the kids graduated and left the house then get divorced. I've never been married largely because of that despite girlfriends wanting me to. I really think the downhill slide started post WWII. My grandparents all stayed until the end but possibly growing up through the great depression and the largest war in history shaped them differently. Sad to see either way.
I'm 32 and have only ever been with my husband. So body count is 1 😅

I know people who are married and miserable, people who were together for 30+ years and divorced, people who married simply for practicality but hate each other. I also know people who never married their significant other, had kids, and have been together for years with no relationship issues. We have both seen friends and family dragged through years of court, had their kids taken by spiteful spouses, and have half their shit taken. My original comment was not about marriage. Regardless being married with kids is the best thing I've ever done and my life is complete, I have amazing boys, a wife that accepted my faults from my past and me accepting hers. It truly is the best if you find the right person and put in the work and it is hard work. I've had the biggest fights if my life wife her, but also the highest of highs. That's what family is, it'll never be perfect but you can keep it close with putting in the effort.

The only thing you can really say is that dating gets easier for men when they get a little older. Men have the easiest time dating at 30 - 35ish. Even at 25 he should have a bit more success than at 20.
Of course, it's completely unfair to say that to a 20 year old, because at that age being 30 just seems like an eternity away. But there's really else you can say.
Tell your son he’s not alone and in being himself, he shouldn’t be let done when someone doesn’t match his morals but grateful he can weed out who isn’t for him. When he one day meets the person who holds his values, it will be bliss for him. He will suddenly appreciate everyone who didn’t match up with him because he finally found someone worth waiting for. He is only 20 and i hope he knows how young he is, he still has time and frankly anyone finds love at any age despite the opinion that you don’t. Just tell him to focus on himself and have faith.

Even in Tennessee where people tend to lean conservative, there are so many young people sleeping around and women wearing… interesting clothing to say the least. I remember moving to another state as a kid. During my jr high and high school years, I noticed how common it was to see students including my peers dating and it was a healthy mix of few months to a full year/known each other since X grade. Looking back, it was beautiful and I was fortunate enough to witness what true love looks like. Now sure break ups were common. Hearing people cheating on each other was rare and the idea of hooking up didn’t happen. But if it did, it was considered “one night stand”. After graduating hs the same couples I remembered seeing were still together. Now, they already have a family and recently bought a house. It really sucks that something this beautiful is taken for granted these days because nowadays it’s uncommon to see couples last a full year. Back then, a full year of being in a relationship was a cake walk.
