Woodturning - Spectraply Baby Rattle
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2018
- Wooden Baby Rattle with curly maple and Spectraply. Unfortunately, this rattle will not be used with the color leaching that I have seen, so I will be sticking with rattles made from domestic hardwoods.

Hello 👋 from Panamá 🇵🇦

YobiMar Family thanks, glad you liked it!
Nice project, I will making a couple for my great niece!
Joan Busby Thanks! Have fun, they are a good build to experiment with.
Desde Colombia 😀👏👍
Two question one is it corn that you use to make the rattle and two where do you get that cool colored wood
I
Yep, its corn and try not to over stuff it as it will deaden the sound quickly. The wood I bought at woodcraft but it can be found online under spectraply search.
Hello, That's a really cool rattle. What did you put in the rattle to make the noise? Thanks
I used corn for this one but have had good success with beans too. I used to overfill and its deadens the sounds so now i use a less with better results.
Great video
Would you be willing to share dimensions?
Did you make the template yourself?
Thanks again
Chris
Chris Seymour I did make the template and the measurements are 5” outside to outside, roughly 1 3/4” inch diameter and center to center of 3 1/4” for the 1” cavities. The holes are centered 7/8” in from either side. Hope this helps and let me know if you need any other dimensions.
@@buildables9185 Thank you
Where did you get the tool holder vise setup
Jon Harrington got that from vega woodworking. Its the midi size lathe duplicator.
Which exactly oli have you used?
Krzysiek Kiedo I used a food grade mineral oil for this one. Most local pharmacies carry it and its pretty inexpensive too.
Hi, what is the material on The blue, purple wood?
Purchased it under the name of spectraply at woodcraft. They have a variety of color options but i prefer solid wood in hindsight. The color tends to run in the ply both during sanding and if moisture is introduced.
@@buildables9185 Thank you for the SpectraPly plug! They certainly are colorful. Color stain penetration can be prevented if you use Seal-A-Cell by General Finishes before final topcoat of Mineral or Walnut oil: www.woodcraft.com/products/seal-a-cell-finish-clear-pint. Another new finish we are carrying is OSMO, which is all natural.
Also, what were the thicknesses for each of the 3 glued-up pieces? I counted 9 SpectraPly layers in one of the blanks, which is about 3/4" thick ea. x 3, so I'm figuring 2.25in thick total.
