Also Palpatine is like, we already have this army made of human children so why not use them?
I mean, wouldn't you? That's just a waste of man... childpower. Unless you have a use for all that delicious orphan meat?
A bunch of mentally 10 year olds!
You know, under those terms, the Clone Wars as a whole starts to sound like a slightly less insane Metal Gear Solid plotline.
@@geetslys true, some of the Republic’s Finest
Would it count as child abuse?
My guess is that due to the CIS being very familiar with droids they could possibly hack Republic droids and turn them against their masters.
Interesting theory, but after the Battle of Naboo, both sides knew to not make their armies centrally controlled?
@@geetslys Forgot that detail but I think that could still be the republics fear that the CIS could hack into their droids and do some damage with them. Look at the Coruscant bombing, the CIS was able to infiltrate their droids into the republics capital and deal some massive damage to it so imagine that but on a battlefield where the Republic will probably have to fight a two front war.
I know those droids were CIS but I think the idea comes across. They know droids better than any other faction in the galaxy so the Republic probably didn’t want to take that risk and field droid armies.
They still used a central core programming, i.e. all their droid brains were programmed the same way respective to their model. Theoretically it would be possible to slip code fragments in over a number of updates and either subvert them or shut them down. Tbh that should have been a main focus for the Republic, the B-1s alone went through a ton of software updates IIRC. I mean it would be boring but it seems like something that would be very effective.
sounds very similar...
Ezra: They don't look very dangerous.
Rex: Listen those droids have wiped out a lot of Republic troopers. Many of them....... Were my friends.

I would think another enormous issue is they'd be using their enemy's speciality. The Separatists have been using droid armies for years, so it's naturally disadvantageous to try to use them as well. If anyone already has counters to a droid army, it's someone who uses them extensively. They'd have at the very least be aware of their own weaknesses and be better at preventing or exploiting them. Not to mention, they'd be better equipped to prevent their droids being the ones to revolt, or be better prepared to cause it to happen to the Republic's droids.

@@DefinitelyNotEmma yeah....all this talk about independent thinkers, and I certainly didn't think about my answer to much
@Cultural Nat true, a lot of those people look like a mob who just repeats the same ideas as the next guy, not to say there are no good ideas to be repeting, but to do it without thinking about it is quite....stupid? Maybe to much of a harsh word, ignorant perhaps?
@@DefinitelyNotEmma Yea but the independant thinkers are a small minority and its often those people that stand out and get remembered.
Most people in the world just automatically think the same way and have the same opinions as the majority does and does not even question if that way of thinking or those opinions are the correct or only way way of thinking or the correct or only opinions you can have about things.
Most people in the world are strongly against going against the majority and think your just weird, an idiot or even a bad person if you do.
How the majority feels about things is just how your supposed to feel about it and if you dont agree your simply just wrong.
A few independant thinkers are lucky and have people actually listen to them but most of the time people wont listen to a word they say.
G0-T0 is a seriously underrated KOTOR 2 character. His backstory is amazingly unique. A droid designed to fix a broken government, but breaks because they realize they can't fix it conventionally and thus goes about fixing the Republic unconventionally...
But what about the droid attack on the Wookies?
D:
Ahh, I love The Empire Strikes Back too
He is right that is not a system we can afford to lose!
The republic, that faction that conscripts an army of slave soldiers but fears droid army :(
Clones can't be mass produced by the millions in a day. XD
@@CoolMyron true but still the clones are still slaves
Two sides of the same coin
The clones where meant to be freed after the war. The Empire did live up to that.
@@Bluesonofman they really didn’t
I just realized one thing: during the Clone Wars, THE LIMITATIONS DIDN'T WORK. The super battle droid Kalani achieved full sentience, and was able to disregard the shutdown signal.
The galaxy dodged a superlaser blast there...
Kalani misidentified the shutdown signal as a republic trick, but the fact that he disregarded it in the first place is worrying.
@@garrickberry3175 it kind of was a republic trick. After the annihilation of the separatist council, it was Darth Vader, under direct orders from Emperor Palpatine, former chancellor of the Galactic Republic and leader of its successor state the Galactic Empire. So... Arguably it was a Republic trick, or at least an imperial one.
Sith and Jedi forces used droids against each other along with organic troops leading them.
True! Those droids were so cool!
@@geetslys But they were sure to mix organic soldiers in as well so as to not make it the droid wars.
Yeah and if they go rogue the Jedi/Sith could just slash them lol
@@geetslys , Old Republic Era was better in my opinion.
I feel like if Palpatine didn’t play both sides, the Clone Wars would have only lasted a few weeks.

Well, so are clones but there are ethical reasons not to, or at least that is what prevented the Kaminoans from trying while they were watched by the Jedi.

the senate will decide your fate
Roger Rog . . . actually, I remember something from the 2nd story arc of Robotech where the team’s brainiac mentioned that he wanted machines to fill in the shortcomings of humanity & such…
Now I’m pondering, if Republic Battledroids were pulled from the frontlines, and I’m also asking what class of droids they are, what about Combat Medical Droids? Droids programmed to protect the injured clones by dragging ‘em away, providing first aid, and even sometimes shooting at enemy combatants who’re threatening/endangering the injured?
You can't call it the clone wars if both sides use droids.
and most of all, palpatine probably feared a chrismas ceasefire like in real life's WWI
Poor RB551, its not his fault ye was an older model...
That intro clip is golden
One of the best things about The Clone Wars era, is how it reflects a lot of universal issues in regards to modern warfare, AI, technological advancement, automation as a thing. These droids for instance deal with the same philosophical and political issues of using advanced AI unmanned weapons and the risks, as another great sci fi also explored:
"Skynet became self aware."
"HK-47 bcame self aware."
Or in Halo, where AI's went Rogue.
The geth from mass effect is another good example even if they aren’t droids
Hardly, seeing how the Geth didn't even start a revolution until their masters decided to try to genocide them.
It seems to be an old sci-fi trope, but I'm reminded of the Star trek Voyager episode prototype. Two warring races used droids to fight for them. The aliens ended up peace, but the Androids killed all of them to keep fighting.
I always thought it would be cool to build squads of 40 droids for each clone trooper and just have the clone ride around in a fast manuevarable yet heavily armored speed bike and command those squads basically giving you the best of both worlds.

Why are y’all in a house
Can you maybe do a video on the background of many rebel and Imperial leaders?
Good idea!
I seriously love your voice and how soothing it is when you talk. Sorry if that sounded creepy
It's extremely likely if the Republic did use droids instead of clones Order 66 would of had a higher chance to fail as the Jedi would be prepared for their droid followers to turn on them
True, because they would expect slicers to try to subvert the army.
I want a video about what happened to HK-47 and the HK-51s
I would love to see HK47 show up again in a star wars piece. Last time we saw or, I guess heard, from him was SWG. And idk if that's even considered Canon. If not, then he's still alive out there.
Quick question, why do the construction droids like G0-T0 look like imperial interrogator droids?
I mean he literally has a needle/drill and pincer.
Yo geetslys, your channel is amazing!
To be honest, I’m divided on this issue because droids are sentient, which is the base definition for life, so a revolution would be needed in order to free them, but to destroy all humans is something that I would not support, so my response is a Roger, Negative.
GO-TO deserves much more love
HK-47 and T3 horde it all
"What have you brought me?"
@@geetslys *zaps Remote*
If anyone watched the Animatrix the second renaissance they too would be utterly terrified of a legitemate AI revolution(!)
Or Nier automata
Agreed. That moment with the man crying freaked me out
Or anyone aware of Roko’s Basilisk, which imo is way more horrifying because it is a real concept that affects the real world and the very knowledge of it is considered a cognitohazard by many psychologists.
@@sawspitfire422 no not aware of that but il be sure to look it up sounds interesting. Thanks
It's kinda like the Dalek Movellan war
Both were advanced factions that relied on their battle computers to come up with strategies and tactics and due to their restrictions with the Movellans going by what is logical and the Daleks always stuck in the one mindset of destruction through sheer force, both sides ended up locked in a stalemate constantly predicting each of their moves and making countermeasure after countermeasure
I wonder if it's possible in Star Wars universe to create a barrier that would force any ships passing by to get out of hyperspace travel, allowing to easily cut supply lines and ambush travelling spaceships.
Of so, then has such strategy ever been used?
They are called interdictors. They are very expensive to make and field, and they require a lot of energy to run their gravity well generators.
Interdictors tend to be limited for those reasons.
So basically, the galaxy feared the birth of Ultron.
Thats the best piece of art thumbnail ever
"Roger Roger!"
I think a better example of why no AI vs AI is thr warhammer 40k wars of the men of iron and men of gold. The war basicly was AI vs AI that turned humans from an unstoppable galactic titan to a collection of waring tribes, unable to even take to the stars

The Republic was wise in this case not to do this because when you fight fire with fire you usually only end up making more fire.
LOL.
Although, given how most of the Galaxy was burned by this bloody war that might not have been a bad thing for the Sith.

Traveling in a fried-out combie
Why was a hybrid army not used? I can see the danger of wide spread use of droids, but the effectiveness of something like IG-88 is so undeniable that it's hard to understand why they weren't used for suicide type missions where the survival rate was low and even if they rebelled, it would be a quick task to mop up survivors. Its seems essentially all one has to do to keep these things in check is have the factory protected and manned by humans, maybe with a few jedi if necessary.

I know its a whole galaxy but WHERE THE HELL DID THEY SO MUCH METAL FOR THESE ARMIES LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF YEARS AFTER MASS MINING STARTED
I mean there are ALOT of planets!
Don't forget asteroids!
my head canon is that due to heavy elements sinking in early proto-planets and impacts blasting away crust but not the core material, there are lots of asteroids with heavy elements to be found throughout the galaxy.
@@arcticwolf8313 That's not even far off. See:16 Psyche. There's probably a butt load of them.
It's weird mass mining started so late though.
