This was always my favorite part of Christmas Festival, surrounding the audience, holding candles in the dark, and singing this. Still gives me goosebumps.
This is so gorgeous, I can't even find words. Every single member should be very, very proud. Especially poignant given where we were during COVID, when choirs had to sing virtually - a technical feat that still absolutely amazes me. The St. Olaf Choir has always been the very best of the best. (That is my unbiased opinion as a native Minnesotan!) Thank you so much for this gift.
I remember singing this at Tuskegee University before St. Olaf's choir came to visit. Beautiful song. I tried to sing the last note but St. Olaf's Bass 2's got low and I couldn't help but smile. I remember how yall would sing while holding hands too. Great work, keep it up.
My memory (1980s) is that tge St. Olaf choir used to start with a verse in Norwegian - Deilig er jorden. All the online versions I have found don't do that, though.
That you nail this every time should answer my own question, but HOW someone matched these virtual voices so perfectly was marvelous!! PS: not only do you all have gorgeous voices, you are all beautiful as well. Had to say it.
OK, now this has become my "go to pick-up" on a day when I need it. When I doubt the beauty in the world, or even in myself, I just need to hear your voices and see your beautiful presence, and I know everything is going to be fine.
I came across St Olaf Choir accidentally this past year. I have been quite impressed by the musical creativity and beauty this choir creates. Another spectacular arrangement and job by this choir. Great job, well done.
I remember standing in the middle of the second altos and singing this and it still brings me to tears. Thank you for editing this in such a beautiful way and thanks for letting me cry without shame again. For all those we have lost and for all we hope for in the future! Peace!
Oh!!! I LOVE this!! And seeing all of your faces again as I hear your lovely voices! I’m saving this to my personal treasures of St Olaf Choir memories. Hope you are all well and happy! 🙏😎🥰
A beautiful performance and lovely solos, so uplifting. I sang this hymn as a child in the Church of Scotland. I'd be interested to know who arranged this?
Just proof this is an incredibly difficult thing to do. I admire the effort but the entrances ooze in. Also, when did St Olaf start using so much vibrato?
You catapulted me into the Lord's Presence. You gave wings to words & notes; all crystalizing into high praise. Thanks. I pray that you (ALL), never stop worshipping Adonai.
"Fairest Lord Jesus" was a my favorite hymn when I was a child.
I guess it still is.
Thank you for this sacred music. I hope to sing this when I get to heaven by God's grace.

Mine too!
Psalms 50:2 - Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
One of the most sublime choral arrangements of the past 100 years. F Melius the Great.

That may be the Holy Spirit friend. If you seek Him you will find Him.

This arrangement is by F. Melius Christiansen the founder of this choir (St Olaf). This is the choir’s signature tune.
Thanks, I have only recently discovered this choir and been very impressed. Do you know the names of the soloists?
No I’m just a choir geek who grew up in Minnesota. Just familiar with choral music and the St Olaf choir. The solos are beautiful.
Well Done!
That bass note at the end tho... 😎
St. Olaf, where Rose is from on Golden Girls?

Nice bass on last note
