I think one cool detail that they added is that Korra is thinner and less muscular after her illness and traveling on her own. The same thing also happened to Zuko between S1 and S3 of ATLA, when he was living as a refugee and a beggar in the Earth Kingdom (compare his muscular appearance in the first Agni Kai against Zhao to his very thin appearance in The Beach). Also remember that Aang's first vision of Toph was in the big swamp.
Korra Alone is one of my personal favorites. If anything, that episode literally cements the fact that her journey is not only different to that of Aang but how different their challenges are from each other.
This is really the direction they should have gone in S2 with her instead of having Aang show up and magically fix everything in the last two minutes of season 1.
@@troikas3353 I never liked the end of Season 1, and I feel it wasn't the writer's first choice either. but they had to do what they had to do with he hand they were dealt. I like Korra, but I would love to see a re-imagined Korra with the team given knowledge that they will get a full 4 seasons to tell their story.
In Book 2, Episode 4 of Avatar, Aang sees visions of Toph in the swamp. When asking the swamp dude why he saw someone he hadnt even met, he realized that time is an illusion and that she is someone he will meet. 70 years later, Korra find Toph in the same swamp!

It's actually quite fitting that Korra found Toph in the swamp! If y'all remember the swamp called t Aang whether was looking for an earth-bending master and was shown a vision of Toph and her family's crest. So in the same sense the Avatar gains her as a mentor again. Their friendship transcends lifetimes.
To be fair to Bolin, the Earth Nation was in utter chaos with bandits looting all over the place, he basically had a front row seat of Kuvira bringing back order to a lot of places (like where the rest of their family probably lives now) as well as bringing supplies to villages in need. Sure, she probably isn't showing him things like re-education camps and can be very heavy handed in her approach, but then he sees that the proposed replacement for Kuvira is some selfish prince that put no effort into helping his people. It very much makes sense that Bolin would double down on his support at this point.
As long as they are caught up with the releases on patreon then it should be ok. They must have already finished with korra so there's no need for a break in between for the youtube releases
Korra has PTSD and Zaheer did a number on her, that's why this is the season, Korra goes through many changes, as this season is called Balance, so she is working to balance her self. She is going to be a far better Avatar, and will show why she is a Legend. She already helped bring back the air nation. So that in it's self is legendary.
Yessssss I am so excited Book 4 is here! Korra with the PTSD is such a fascinating aspect for an Avatar. Korra who was always such a strong and headstrong type of person was brought down to her lowest in these past books. It finally broke her at the end of last book. Now with Toph finally back I can admit I squealed at this reveal. I love how they revealed so many of the old ATLA gang, Toph's return was awesome and fits her so well. Can't wait for next weeks reaction!!
A pretty accurate point of view of what PTSD can do to a person. The ending of the last season basically broke Korra and this is the aftermath. She's not who she thought she was in her mind and we're seeing the rough struggle to find herself again.
Toph in 'The Avatar and the Firelord': "Do you really think friendships can last for more than one lifetime?" Toph in 'Korra Alone': "Nice to see you again, Twinkle Toes." ❤❤❤
The callbacks to Aang's time as Avatar are so good, dude! Makes me emotional seeing Korra meet Toph, as I can't help but reflect on Aang holding Toph's hand and hearing the words, "Some friendships transcend even lifetimes." Korra is a gift to us fans, truly.
If you think about it... Her as a villain is perfect for the final season. I say that because the way her plan is unfolding with the pledge loyalty stuff seems a lot like what the fire nation did before Ang woke up. If you think about it, we missed what happened when the fire nation did that... this time, we get to see it.
I love Kuvira. Total boss and sympathetic antagonist. I love how this season explores the consequences of Zaheer’s ideology to prove he was just a terrorist with no real redeeming qualities
All Hail the Great Uniter! I'm 100% a lady simp for Kuvira. In all seriousness though, I do like that they show Kuvira's efforts were genuine at first, necessitated by the fact no one else wanted to help.
I think the intention behind Korra cutting her hair wasn't so much about hiding her identity as it was signaling a change in her identity. Remember when Iroh and Zuko were branded as criminals and they cut their hair? Sorta the same thing here. She was giving up her old life and honor to replace it with her new one. She didn't feel like she was deserving of being the avatar so she aimed for the simple life in hiding. The difference between Iroh/Zuko and Korra is that she wants to run from her responsibilities and problems while Iroh and Zuko were trying to embrace the change and move forward.
Actually Iroh and Zuko cutting their ponytails off was a little bit more meaningfull in both Chinese and Japanese culture that firebenders are compared too. Hair were symbol of social status so cutting them normally was a big nono. Cutting of royal buns/ponytails was also cutting themselves out of the rest of family at that point. While I agree with most of your comment, theyre simply similiar but def not the same.
@@TokusaMarudzi Yes, I am aware of the cultural significance of cutting the hair. I just didn't mention it because someone at some point in every single video on that ATLA episode and this LOK episode mentions it, so I didn't think it was worth being redundant. I was approaching it from a Western mindset. And even if I mentioned it, it still goes to my point that Iroh and Zuko were starting over because they were no longer royalty. They had to start a new life and Iroh definitely embraced it while Zuko was reluctant but willing since he'd rather be an outcast than be handed over to Azula. I thought my comment insinuated that the two instances were similar but not the same 🤷♀

I know most people's favorite season/book is the 3rd one, but this book is my favorite. Korra's journey in healing from PTSD can be so personal and so relatable...
Technically after season 2 all purely bending related threats are beneath what Korra already accomplished. Season 3 hit her with a squad of exceptional benders who used backhanded methods on top of that. Season 4 she starts with a very much not yet finished recovery. Also the Earth Empire (formerly Kingdom) is by far the largest. So far distance, infighting, natural barriers and the technological advances (particularly the fire nation who industrialised first) kept them at bay. But like several countries with a strong resource base and large population, once you create stability and set them on the path to catch up they will pretty much inevitably overtake the others.
Since your ahead on Patreon I can say Korra was seeing her avatar spirit trying to tell her not all the poison is out and she's still fighting more than one battle internally her spirit fighting the poison and her mind fighting the PTSD of her trauma
I may be in the minority here, but Prince Wu is one of my favorite characters lol, trust me he grows on you. he got yanked out of college to go be a king and has no idea what he's doing, he was never meant to be next in line, but the rest of the royal family was presumably offed after the Queen's demise. I highly recommend reading the comics after the series btw!
When they re-use voice actors it is hard to ignore if its not different enough. Like in Ep 1 the guy who said "Now you don't have anything left" in the shop, is Varrick's voice actor. And I'm pretty sure in S1E10 when Amon is pushed into the water and is found to be a phoney, you hear JK Simmons's doing a voice that says "The Avatar is telling the truth!"
My favorite is in ATLA when it sounds like Azula's VA is talking to herself in the episode "Into the Inferno", when she's banishing a servant for not removing a cherry pit.
We did do a time jump in between shows, but yes during shows, this is the only BIG time jump. It was a few weeks between season 2 & 3. Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge btw ;)

Actually in Avatar The Last Airbender, there was a time jump, not as drastic as 3 years though. When Zuko got the credit for “ending” Aang, he was in hiding for a while with Katara and Sokka. We came back to see Aang have a head full of hair and he was obviously trying to recovery fully before re-shaving his head.
I don’t know what I find more surprising/hilarious- that you know the milk shake scene from Coming to America or that you actually know the actor’s name 😂
hearing Mason Quinn talk about Korra being in the pits instantly made me think of the episode of Spartacus where he fights in the pits. If you guys haven't seen that series do yourselves a favor and watch it.. It would take some heavy editing to get it on youtube, its got pretty high levels of profanity, gore, and nudity. But even if not for UA-cam, just for the experience of seeing it I would recommend watching through at least the first Season.
im with kuvira on this one...If i had just spent 3 years stabilizing my country, only to have a foreign body install an incompetent puppet ruler....i would go nuclear too. plus kuvira did have majority support from the citizens....the only people resisting initially were government officials. Kuvira didn't start out with bad intentions.
THIS SEASON ALWAYS REMINDS OF HOW AVATAR KYOSHI HAD TO DEAL WITH SHIN WHO'S TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD 🌎 ANYONE SEE THE SIMILARITY BETWEEN THIS SEASON AND THAT AVATAR DAY EPISODE IN ( ATLA )
I really appreciate how the show handled Korra's battle with PTSD but I really wish the mechas weren't so involved in battles. I know technology is inevitable but part of why Season 3 was so great was the amazing and unique fighting/bending styles. Since we have giant robots already, kinda scared how they handle things in the new upcoming series.
Trivia: The name Zaheer is also similar pronunciation to the word "zehir" which means "poison" in Turkish and Urdu, relating to how he used poison in an attempt to kill Korra. It is a loanword from the Persian and Middle Persian word zahr (زهر). This word is cognate with the Avestan word "jathra", which means the same thing. The oldest identified Turkish source and other examples: [Edib Ahmed, Atebet-ül Hakayık (Threshold of Truths), before the year of 1250?] "bir elgin tutup şahd birin zahr katar" (Old Turkish) [bir elinde bal tutup biriyle zehir katar (Modern Turkish translation)] [holds honey in one hand and adds poison with another]"
No honestly my first time watching I also thought that the bandit that got flipped by Kuvira sounded like Korra when she screamed! I had to rewind to make sure that wasn't her.
I do wish they handled things with Kuvira in a more nuanced way. They show that she is a better leader than Prince Wu would be, but they make her intentions so obviously corrupt that it is difficult to see her side. I wish it was easier to have a perspective like Bolin on the whole situation.
It's so interesting that Korra's soul it's Aang's soul. They're the same person, not because of Raava. Basically we're watching Aang's life still, in a way.
I've said this on a couple reactions now but Kuvira is not in the wrong for refusing to help without capitulation from the state governors. This series is set three years after the Earth Queen was assassinated. It threw the Earth Kingdom into utter chaos as the Kingdom was an absolute monarchy and they found themselves without any leadership overnight. Instead of working together to plug this hole and put the next in line onto the floor and secure their country, these states decided to declare independence. In the case of the state of Yi it is a rich mining state but as such lacks the required farm output to feed its people. It is not geographically, politically or in anyway set up to be sustainable as an independent state. It is a small piece of a kingdom that relied on neighbours to feed its people and the overall military might of the Kingdom as a whole to suppress banditry and other criminal actions. This governor is moralising using the suffering of his people to try and argue his right to go down this route but frankly he is being selfish looking for his own power and influence. By seeking a situation of quasi-independence where the state retains all of its freedoms but relies on other nation's charitable support and aid to feed its people and protect from crime and banditry. This is a failed state. So we have rebellious failed states trying to become independent instead of live under Earth Kingdom rule (a rule which doesn't even remove the governors as Kuvira is happy to keep them in power). What a lot of people who watch this also don't really pick up on is that Kuvira and her overall strategy reports back to the future king, council and other national leaders and has their full support. The reality of this would be similar to a UN backed local government trying to rebuild a place like Libya after Gaddafi fell by quelling the warlords that rose up and reintroducing national rule and law.
I think you're missing the point a bit though. Kuvira trying to unite the earth kingdom again is not a bad thing, but the forceful and ruthless way she's doing it IS. The Yi governor wasn't rejecting her out of pride or because he wanted power, he was rejecting her because the terms of kuvira's ''agreement'' were incredibly one sided.

We came back to see Aang have a head full of hair and he was obviously trying to recovery fully before re-shaving his head.
I don’t know what I find more surprising/hilarious- that you know the milk shake scene from Coming to America or that you actually know the actor’s name 😂
Zuko Alone, Korra Alone, best episodes!
hearing Mason Quinn talk about Korra being in the pits instantly made me think of the episode of Spartacus where he fights in the pits. If you guys haven't seen that series do yourselves a favor and watch it.. It would take some heavy editing to get it on youtube, its got pretty high levels of profanity, gore, and nudity. But even if not for UA-cam, just for the experience of seeing it I would recommend watching through at least the first Season.
make-oh......its mack-oh. you've heard the name said for 4 season now.
im with kuvira on this one...If i had just spent 3 years stabilizing my country, only to have a foreign body install an incompetent puppet ruler....i would go nuclear too. plus kuvira did have majority support from the citizens....the only people resisting initially were government officials. Kuvira didn't start out with bad intentions.
Best season imo ❤
YESSSIRRR I KNEW YALL WOULDNT TAKE A BREAK GIVEN HOW BIG OF A CLIFF HANGER THEY LEFT US ON. LETA GOOOOO
😮😮didn’t expect book 4 so soon. No complaints
I’m so excited that you started book 4 already!!
The oldest identified Turkish source and other examples:
[Edib Ahmed, Atebet-ül Hakayık (Threshold of Truths), before the year of 1250?]
"bir elgin tutup şahd birin zahr katar" (Old Turkish)
[bir elinde bal tutup biriyle zehir katar (Modern Turkish translation)]
[holds honey in one hand and adds poison with another]"
The season is finally here! ALL HAIL THE GREAT UNITER!
And when you finish this book you know how they wrote them selfs in a corner.
DEFS one of the best reactors to this series ive seen 😂😂😂😂
Love the Spaceballs and T2 references. 😂 It’s nice to watch reactors from my generation who think like I do haha.
No honestly my first time watching I also thought that the bandit that got flipped by Kuvira sounded like Korra when she screamed! I had to rewind to make sure that wasn't her.
It's not really covered but some of the same bandits kuvira spared on tracks are the same ones robbing the governor to pressure him to join her
These grown men watching cartoons make me so happy, love them ❤
Nice!! The boys are back
Season 4 Meelo is amazing
*KING MEELO!!!*
I loved this! Cannot wait to see you all react to the new hunger games!
Badd Medicine is... BAK!!!
Yesss can’t wait for the commentary on this season
glad to see the start to season 4 already!
Basically we're watching Aang's life still, in a way.
yaaay new episodes came so fast!!
PLEASE REACT TO LOST SERIES 🙏
So excited!
NO BREAK??? BEST DAY EVER!!!
Wu down
You got Kuvira right at the end there.
Bad guys/gals,
Season 1 communist

Season 3 anarchist
Season 4 fascist
Guys, please watch My Hero Academia Dub, you will LOVE it!
I love you guys’ reactions!!! If it’s not too long, you guys should def react to the Adventure Time series! it’s a fantastic show
I've said this on a couple reactions now but Kuvira is not in the wrong for refusing to help without capitulation from the state governors.
Season 4 should be exhibit A for anyone arguing Korra is a Mary Sue
toph love😂
You guys should watch Attack on Titan too😮, if you want to😅
Another Indian movie recommendation: 12th fail.
A Masterpiece. Hope you guys react to this movie soon.
