Glad to see someone try this and review in a tj before I did. Also, honest thoughts on camera, which would be best? Does your stick on or bolt on? Mine will be offroaded pretty heavy.
I've got a great Pioneer stereo in my 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible....but it's time to possibly upgrade and add some features. Nice review! This looks like it might work for me and hook me up for the next decade plus of driving enjoyment.
A few questions:
1) Does the backup camera come on automatically when you put the car in reverse? If not, is there a setting on the Pioneer system allowing you to do so?
2) How long is that USB extension cord you're using?
3) When the screen is up do you feel that it affects the airflow or is it unnoticeable?

Backup camera comes on automatically when put in reverse, also you can manually turn it on in settings. I think the USB extention included is 6 foot long. In hot car that has been in sun it does affect so once I get the music going I just close the screen and use the buttons on the unit and steering wheel controls. In car that is not already hot from parking in the sun is fine since air flow come around the sides of the screen.
I just bought a 2001 Wrangler TJ. Beautiful condition 60,000 miles so I'm trying to make it as nice as possible. Was thinking about getting this one or doing conversion to the doubledin dash. Had a couple questions if you don't mind?
Is the touch screen that flimsy plastic feeling or is it more glass like a tablet?
Is the unit removable for me to lock away when I'm parked without doors?
Has this gotten wet at all from rain or dew from having the top down and doors off?

If you prefer removable, i suggest you to go for double din customisation for your car. (My personal opinion)

Overall great review video. If you want to start taking your review videos to the next level I might suggest cleaning up whatever you're reviewing. The dust all over the radio during the closeups was triggering my OCD side.

Yeah I was thinking about this for my 2000 Cherokee which has the same dash board. Seeing the vents being blocked is a huge con since it gets toasty inside.
I have 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe and it blocks my central vents too. When car has not been parked in the sun is not so much of an issue. If I need the air flow I just retract the screen once I am using the music the way I want to. Then use the unit's buttons or the steering wheel controls. Yes, some compromise but I wanted a double din without eliminating the air vents. That was option offered by installer to eliminate vents entirely and not my choice.
I am thinking abut 98 Cherokee. What did you decide to do?

@Joseph Hernandez yes this is the smaller single din radio but it slides out so it's got a screen
it will fit your 96 civic
@Joseph Hernandez it is just the space for your radio 96 civic is a single din spot the smaller radio spot but other cars can have a double din spot its basicaly twice the size of a single din
@Joseph Hernandez the only problem with the 96 98 civic is it has a small radio area the 99 2000 civic have a bigger area for radio but it's more work than it's worth to swap those pieces out just get a slide out one you'll be very happy with this one they are kick ass!!

I had a pop up unit with similar options, the thing only lasted about 3 years and stopped working. The touch screen gave out and occasionally pops up.
Curious if the flip up screen would hit the dashpad that sticks out past the top din on 84-01 Cherokee XJ's.
the interface sits directly in front of the vents. does that effect the ac and heat and/or the unit itself?

If you are in Arizona you need AZ. Blocking the vents is no bueno. Any ideas?
When passing video to a secondary output, will the video stay up even when the screen is closed?

I'd get this anyway, even for the modern cars with a double din layout filled with 2 single dins. I never liked the displays that the car manufacturers come out with.

Looks cool, but what about it blocking the heat/cool vents? I have an older BMW X3 and what this for my kid so he doesn't look at his phone.. Looks like it will just blow to the sides and I heard you can close it and still use it.
Yes I have a 2009 x3 and with the dash kit i found it only covered one vent and i just turned the vent to the left and you can still feel it

Why the Heck dont they the put the mic in the Screen! I dont want to tear my car apart to set up a mic
yes, however, the mic they provide is much better than a built in mic on the screen. We know how much it sucks when somebody answers the phone with their speaker phone and it sounds like they are in a tunnel, or really far away, etc. A built-in mic is much more susceptible to road-noise, internal noise, and just can't receive as good a sound from the driver. For now, an external mic is still the way to go IMO.
If they made it wireless that would be better, but thats how it is for now :(

You're hardly tearing the car apart to install the mic. If this is too much of a challenge for you as a installer I recommend you go to bestbuy or cartoys.

Have you tested out android auto on it? I remember seeing some head units that would only do android auto if it was a phone that had hdmi out and a bunch of crazy crap that I thought was unnecessary. If it's plug and play just like apple car play then this radio would be bad ass.
Manuel Landa its plug and play, mine is set up to automatically open android auto when my phone is plugged in

Stickyload9889 it will play whatever your phone allows, however if you are on UA-cam and you decide to check a text message it will shut off until you go back to UA-cam
