    I'm still a little confused about dual voice coils. What is the difference between a DVC 4 ohm and a SVC 2 ohm? Are they exactly the same? Does the DVC raise the wattage by lowering ohms? If you want 2 ohms, why not just buy a 2 ohm SVC sub?

    The variable missed, and can be introduced later, is that single voice coils are more efficient than duals due to less mechanical moving mass. If a single sub 4ohm load is the goal, choose a SVC over needless 2ohm (series) or 8ohm (parallel) DVC's. A new to industry person may purchase a DVC cause it sounds cooler bragging about it not knowing they are actually getting less decibel capability. If dual subs at 4ohm is the goal, grab two 2ohm SVC subs. Thoughts?

    Myth of underpower comes from miss understanding or ocer simplify its the clipping getting terrible audio.
    I would like to add that adding more power you can get higher clean output because it reach the subs max output will be lower then the amps max output so you will never get clipping. And can get extra sound from poorly formed audio outputs

    Question: Building a under seat (2) 10" box for my 2021 Honda Ridgeline. Would it be better for individual boxes or 1 box with both subs without a separation? I have shallow mount subs and can accommodate internal net volume for both subs. Does it really matter for bass output on the subs if they are chambered?

    • @gakudzu7282
      @gakudzu7282 3 роки тому

      Doesn't matter for sealed boxes. I always keep them separated when putting more than one in a box, just because it's easier to tell which one is blown and the other one doesn't blow from the sudden pressure loss.
      Ported boxes generally aren't divided.

    • @danielgeoulla6089
      @danielgeoulla6089 3 роки тому

      If you can mount the subs close to each other so the speaker frames are practically touching, you get a coupling effect which can improve output. In that situation you would also build a single chamber. Otherwise separate is better as it also gives more bracing and makes a stronger box.

  • @stanmondzelewski9253
    @stanmondzelewski9253 3 роки тому

    I was taught years ago that bridging a 2 channel amp for a subwoofer would cut the impedance of the sub in half.
    Example.
    4ohm sub on a bridged amp would see it as a 2ohm load.
    Is this correct?

    • @michaeltempsch5282
      @michaeltempsch5282 3 роки тому

      That's one way of seeing/describing it...
      A channel puts out a certain max voltage and can deliver only so much current (before letting out the magic smoke). The ratio between the voltage and current is the impedance it can support - let's say 2 ohm.
      When you bridge 2 channels you put them in series, doubling the voltage to the load. But the amp can still only supply the same current through the output transistors.
      To keep the current the same while doubling the voltage you need twice the impedance.
      So an amp stable to 2 ohm per channel in dual channel (stereo) mode, is typically only stable down to 4 ohm when bridged.
      Which can be described as that each channel in the bridged pair "sees" half the load.

    • @gakudzu7282
      @gakudzu7282 3 роки тому

      No. The amplifier will "see" whatever load the speaker is. 4ohm speaker? 4ohm load. 2ohm speaker? 2ohm load.
      However, as stated above bridging a 2ohm stereo stable amp will usually only allow you to load the bridged channels to 4ohms.

    • @paulfretz6777
      @paulfretz6777 3 роки тому +1

      Bridging the amp doesn’t effect the impedance of the speaker, the speaker is the load.
      So bridged amp is good for 200 watts at 4 ohms, that means you can connect a total resistance of 4 ohms or more, 8 ohms, 16 ohms etc, because you are increasing the resistance and therefore lowering the power output. If you try to run 2 ohms on a bridged channel that’s rated for 4 ohms it will not end well in most cases.

    Hey guys can y’all help me . I used amplifinder to find an amp that matches my 10inch kicker compr 2ohm. It can get 400rms . Using amplifinder , I found that kicker cxa400.1 was a good choice for that sub. Reading into it I saw that this amp can do 300rms at 2ohm (since my sub is 2ohm). I’m wondering how much I should set my gain because before this I used to have a 10inch kicker compc that could handle 250 rms and the amp was a kicker cxa300.4 . So a 4 channel amplifier. After reading stuff I saw that for one channel the amp provided less rms than the 250 that my sub could handle. Sooo I turned the gain and bass boost all the way up . Idk if there was slight distortion , but it definitely sounded good and really loud and it kept me satisfied for months. However randomly one day the sub blew . This doesn’t make sense to me because the amp rms for one channel is lower than the sub . The sub can handle more . So how did the sub blow and not the amp. So now I got a 10inch compr 2ohm that can handle 400 rms and the kicker 400.1 that can handle 300 at 2ohm. I hope this is a good choice .I guess my question is when should I know when to stop adjusting my gain because it sounded fine months ago with my compc, but it ended up blowing. I’ve watched videos on doing it by ear and a multimeter , but the ear method clearly didn’t work for me because the gain just seemed like a volume knob and I didn’t hear distortion in the sub, it just got louder. And the multimeter one is confusing for me because if I do the math, the square root of 300rmsx2ohm for the amp .. is lower than the square root of 400rmsx2ohm for the sub. I know that that’s my target voltage but which one do I do and is it really that accurate. I also don’t know if my multimeter is good because it kept jumping to 70 or so on the AC setting and it would never go to 0.

    • @paulfretz6777
      @paulfretz6777 3 роки тому

      Dude your gain is not a volume knob, it has nothing to do with volume. The gain matches your head unit to the amp. If you had the gain up to high and turned the volume up, you probably sent a clipped signal to your amp, which in turn sent a clipped signal to your speakers, which caused the speaker to let go. Distortion is harder on any speaker than under powering them.
      Let’s say your head unit is only putting out 2 volts, on the RCA’s, then you would turn the the gain up to match that 2 volts.
      If you turn the gain up, it will send a clipped signal to the speakers you are powering with the amp.
      Using the multimeter and the math to calculate where the gain needs to be set will work but it’s not ideal. The old way was to use an oscilloscope, that way you could see the waveform of the signal. If the signal was flat on the top and the bottom it is a clipped signal, it should be rounded off.
      Do it right, get the tools you need read or watch videos on the subject, take your time and enjoy. Don’t waste your money by improperly setting up your system, it’s not cheap, and improperly setup systems sound terrible.

    • @gakudzu7282
      @gakudzu7282 3 роки тому

      The simplest way is to find the output voltage of your head unit and set your amp gain to match. 2V out from HU? Set gain to 2V. 4V out? Set to 4V. It won't be "perfect", but it will be good enough in most cases.
      The likely reason the old sub blew on lower power is that you cranked on the gain but couldn't hear the distortion/clipping. It's been my experience that most people can't hear low frequency distortion. So many times peeps have bragged on how good their shit sounds, but it's mad clipping. Drives me nuts. I could hear it starting at half-volume.
      So personally, I'd go with an amp making at least 500W@2ohms, and match the gain to the RCA voltage at around 95% of max volume on the head unit.

Most of the noise disappears when I disconnect my LC7i and all RCAs going into the mid bass amp. I've tried disconnecting my power wires to my sub amp, I've rerun wires, swapped out speakers, swapped grounds, added grounds, jiggled wire connections, smack amp, nothing is helping. Only time it disappears is when I disconnect speaker wires from amps output, or when turning off vehicle of course. It is not engine noise bcuz the sound doesn't fluctuate or change at all with rpms. Any thoughts? I'm aware of the basics such as ground loops and power wire and rca interference. I need to resolve this before I upgrade IN 2 WEEKS TO 20,000 RMS WATTS. I'll pay $50 if you can solve. Feel free to ask away.

      Have you tried a different amp or LC7i? It is also possible this is an issue with the factory system that is not avoidable without a higher level of integration.

      Could be bad aftermarket head unit module. My crux module was defective out of the box. The static noise on mine would also jump location and would come and go randomly.

      Have you tried moving the ground isolation jumpers inside the LC7i, also was the unit installed after the factory amp if this applies?

    stay away from voice coils that have the multi vented formers, these holes will weaken the former neck and cause a collapsed voice coil...as long as there's a single vent right down the middle of the pole should be way good enough in sound quality and reliability

    Technically adding a subwoofer decreases bass performance but I am the only person that can understand this does this mean my brain is different from everyone else’s brain?
