The slandering started when he was due to get a promotion to a job that Monica Rial wanted(who was the one who started to scream at everyone who did not believe her the same things Jamie is doing). Then the other VA´s at Funimation(whom most already had a reputation for being asses towards fans) started to hitch up on that bandwagon and slander Vic too since he was the fan favorite by far(and because of that the fans starting looking into their accusations and found out they had done and said some very horrifying things themselves). The whole thing almost made Funimation lose all their dubbing rights to DBZ and was one of the main reasons Sony decided to scrap the Funimation name due to this black mark related to it
She really tried using asmongold donating to charity as an insult, this is just insane.

You know, I may have almost a real-world example for you here. When I was in Japan in late 2018, one channel on the hotel TV was showing American shows with Japanese subtitles (or dub). One episode of NCIS or something involved a trans character central to the episode’s story. My Japanese isn’t near strong enough to have understood the subtitles, even if I was trying, but now I’m curious

I will never forgive them for what they did to Vic. He was the nicest voice actor I ever met out of the whole DBZ cast and he never deserved those lies they made up about him. I still remember Jamie posting a photo of him hugging a girl in a wheelchair trying to call him a predator and the girl in the photo responded saying she asked him for the hug! He will always be the only voice of Broly for me. No hate to the new Broly though but it's not the same as Vic's performance. That was when I found out what Funimation was really like, so this translator controversy didn't surprise me that much. It was perfectly in their character.

@@AlaanxGalneryus Small fix for the voice acting bit: My understanding is Vic hasn't gotten any "mainstream" voice acting gigs since Dragonball Super Broly. He's been doing smaller projects (the source on this is a few years old but IIRC he mentioned it during the Rekieta Law stream after the appeal for his lawsuit was rejected).
I might be wrong on that so feel free to correct me but you're definitely correct that he hasn't had any work with any of the major dubbing companies (Funimation, Toei, and Crunchyroll) since the whole KickVic BS.

She's worked on a multitude of well known anime whether she butchered it or not (depending on the anime). There is a concept on the internet called "one guy'd" where you hear someone say something and instantly believe them, even if what they say is incorrect. It usually happens to people with fragile egos that only believe what they want to hear and won't back down until cornered and proven wrong. Honestly, I think she's in the same boat as actress that played a abdomination of Faye Valentine... they see the end of their careers and try to get some loyal idiots to rally under their banner to whine about bigotry, patriarchy or whatever when they inevitably lose their job for sucking at said job.
Kinda sad tbh, since I tought her voice itself wasn't too bad on some roles, but you can't hire someone for localisation/translation when they force a agenda into it.
Even if Japanese studios/directors are VERY unlikely to speak up against it publically "to not cause problems for their business relations", you can rest assured it's playing a role when it comes to deciding who gets to do certain translations.
Oh you bet they're testing AI in the background now. The magus bride AI translation is actually decent enough to understand what's happening.
@@Eins3467 I haven't "seen" the AI translation for Magus Bride but I would assume the only major issue with AI translation is you'd need a person who speaks the language to look over it and make sure the translation is okay (i.e. "This makes sense, this sounds like gibberish, what are you referring to with this," etc.).
That's still a gigantic improvement towards "decentralizing" translations/localizations of Japanese anime because instead of paying a whole company way too much money for whatever BS they spew out (i.e. Funimation), the Japanese companies only need to pay a few people (I'd say 4 people tops just for some differing opinions of what the better way to word some stuff would be) to do the proof reading. And if any of them pull any "muh patriarchy" type of BS, the Japanese companies can simply fire them and hire someone else.
Doesn't fix any issues you might end up running into with the voice actors for dubs (if any of them are of the "muh patriarchy crowd) but it fixes the issues for the subtitle translations.

A true Blue culture warrior in every sense. This happened to the American comic book industry around ten or so years ago online and it never got better and only got worse. A couple former comic pros who were trolls back in the 90s internet forum days got real glib and rude on twitter at the end of the 2000s in the face of any criticism and suddenly it became fashionable to be as terrible as possible to every fan or non fan alike on social media through the entire 2010s by every professional who cared to do it. It didn't help it occurred in a timely manner with the culture war churning up around the same time and making this into a gigantic ugly fiasco between fans of any given industry and the pros within it who hold whatever view but, that seems to be the state of things in every industry it looks like.
