question 11b. I did the following and was wondering if this was also correct:
    1) 11.6 : 4 = 2.9 gallons (one quarter left in the tank)
    2) ratio 46 miles : 1 gallon
    3) to find out how many gallon for 140.6 miles (70.3 x 2) I multiplied by 3.06 and then mutliplied 1 gallon by 3.06 which gives me 3.06 gallons.
    4) he only has 2.9 gallons in the tank therefore he has not got enough.
pls advise if I have answered the question thank you.

Yes, but you just need to be a bit clearer in 3) to show where you got 3.06 from (140.6 / 46)

@@SimonHTT Yes agree on my paper I had a ratio table and showed that 140.6 is (46 x 3.09) and therefore on the other side 1 gallon is also multiplied by 3.09. is this correct?

hey I have a question if that is ok. question 8 d) from non calculator paper.
can we convert 4m squared in cm squared by just x 100? since 1m = 100cm?
    i.e 2m x 2m = 4m squared but I want to know this in cm?
    1. Can I convert 4m squared in cm by just x 100? (I don't' think i can as i tried it and it gives me 400cm squared which is wrong)
    2. Do I need to convert 2m x 2m into cm first? 200 x 200 = 40,000 cm squared
Please advise if you can thank you very much.
    Thierry

No! Easy mistake to make though. Because it is squared, you would need to multiply 4 by 100 and then 100 again, once for each dimension. Which is why I recommend people convert the measurements at the start of the calculation so you don't have to remember to do this.
Let's say your 4m squared is from a square with sides 2m each. (2m x 2m = 4m squared) If you convert the lengths you get 200cm x 200cm = 40,000cm squared, while if you only multiply by 100 you would get 400cm squared, which is incorrect.
Although, for this question we're not actually having to work out the area, but if we were that's what we'd need to do.

@@SimonHTT thank you for responding. I am glad I made this mistake and I m glad I asked I will never ever try to convert from cubed or squared again! LOL
