  • This video we tackle an oil leak on a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco. There is an oil feed line coming off the Oil cooler assembly and attaching to the top of the Turbocharger that has the tendency to start leaking. I show the general removal and installation of the new part. Enjoy!

    My wife purchased 2015 chevy cruze LT turbo 7 years ago. Had 30,000 miles on it. The turbo went out around the 55,000 mile mark. It was covered by warranty. Ive had to replace hoses for antifreeze leaks ect. The car is at 160,000 miles and this is leaking. I will be replacing this today. My wife said she smelled burnt oil smell. I popped hood and saw smoke coming from area with a little oil sitting below. Im about 99.9% its this. We keep maintenance on car up ever since ive been working on the car myself we haven't had many problems.

    I see new one has heat shield. Big aluminum heat shield looks like it reflects heat right back at that area. Heat Shield for Exhaust might be just for safety. It in Phoenix AZ 120 F out side stop and go, 1/2 hour wait of crawling to get on freeway. My Cruze just started to leak at 60K. Should be a re-call. Blows out while driving and do not see in time and there goes you turbo or worst you engine too. Thanks for video.

The lady who we bought it from took $1000 off blue book price cause her mechanic told her that it's a $60 part and it would cost $400 in labor. • @ddttime25
      @ddttime25 5 років тому +3

      Yes it’s the turbo coolant return hose pipe. Do not take it to the dealer unless you have warranty on it or have hundreds or dollars to fork out. Mine was actually just loose , so I took the heat guard off it’s like 3 bolts and you can see the hose better. Tightened it back up and put a little clamp on it. It doesn’t leak anymore. But the turbos in these cars still worry me . A lot of people say they are junk,along with other parts that are made to break. I would buy both parts and watch this video and other videos and try and do it yourself. If not find someone who can help you. Or take it to a local Mechanic you can trust. Is your car overheating mine was just a steady drip, and I would make sure the car had coolant at all times before I found the leak.

      Look into the intake manifold pcv valve work around on here. It will throw the under boost code even though turbo is fine. I found that running the highest octane gas(93 in my case) also helps these things run much better. I know the gas price sucks, but it will save you money in the end! I could really use your help. I am in the market for a new car and noticed a 2012 Cruz for $5400, does this sound right? and would you recommend this car? also how can i tell right off the back from test driving it that the Turbo would be messed up

    • @jungleking007Channel
      @jungleking007Channel  5 років тому +2

      I like the car, other than a couple small problems, it's been reliable. Check some pricing sites like Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds to see if the price is in range. You should be able to hear the turbo spool up, when is bad it may not make a sound or you might hear rattling. Also will be sluggish acceleration. There are videos on YT with good examples of failed turbos.

      Not necessarily. It could be simply spark plugs need regapped or replaced, O2 sensor replaced. Last resort would be catalytic converter replacement. I would clear the codes and see if they return before replacing parts. could have been a one time fluke. Good Luck!

  • @gregprice7562
    @gregprice7562 Рік тому

    This is a bad spot for the oil feed line . once the car is shut off the heat soak is gonna dry out that oil sitting and not moving in that line. I wonder if its better to just leave the exhaust heat shield off . also maybe a couple of those spark plug boots or something to put on that pipe to keep it cooler.

      I've replaced 3 turbos from the feed line being clogged. The newer lines have a heat shield, but I doubt it is effective. The aftermarket lines have two O'rings, instead of one. They can be had for $20. I recommend changing this line every 50k miles.

    • @mrdavidmitchell
      @mrdavidmitchell 5 років тому +1

      Doubt it. Had similar error codes with my 2014, and dealer replaced my turbo under warranty. ~38k miles. www.cruzetalk.com/forum/25-gen1-service-issues/127034-replace-turbo-just-wastegate-actuator-non-warranty.html Used a "OBD2 Universal Car Engine Fault Code Reader Diagnostic Bluetooth Scanner Tool" and the Android Torque Lite app to monitor the turbo boost pressure when driving. I'm guessing the wastegate/actuator was getting stuck open and the engine would loose all power, due to low boost. After the car cooled off and restarted, it would be fine, but then fail again. Poor GM design.

      PB Blaster or WD40 let it soak, then probably most effective would be a small pair of vice grips to grab on to the banjo bolt head. worst case, also CAREFULLY heat up the turbo housing in the immediate area around the bolt to hopefully expand the metal slightly so the bolt can twist easier.
