Thanks. I just bought an after market winch for my 1000 and now I should be able to install it no problem . Also thanks for including the links for the mounting plate.
If that plate you removed came with winch bracket kit it does stay on there. The bumper is a bit tricky to get back on must start from bottom holes then push and tap top. Without it winch bracket may twist under a heavy load that bracket bolts to the front of the bumper.
Mounted upside down, it works with winch mounted on the top side, right side up, I have the same kit, same winch, same bumper, same year ranger the only thing you have to do is trim, the bottom side of the fairlead mount given with winch kit

The red knob should be on the drivers side. By doing so the wires connecting to the winch willl be on the passenger side giving you more length to work with. Reversing the wire to pull off the top, the brake will not work thus free spooling under load. Goodby Polaris, see you at the bottom of the mountain 😳
He's exactly right about the brake only working one way on this winch. You should NEVER respool unless it's got a two way brake.
Hey question that extra mount bracket you left off did it bother anything? And also my fairlead looks small is that why you bought a diffrent one? Looks like the holes don't line up.
no the mount did not bother anything.I purchased a different kit because I wanted everything to line up properly without having to drill extra holes
why did you reverse winch? It was installed with red spool release on the left originally, then it is on the right later in the video.
It was rubbing on the rail so i flipped it so it wouldnt

@@DJsWorkshop I just bought another old 2002 Polaris Ranger 500 with fully enclosed cab metal one with all around glass windows and I don’t want to install a stereo. That Bluetooth speaker is the solution
DJ, I just found this instructional vid and read throught it. I too have the Badlands winch and see you have to reverse the way it winds in due to frame issues. My question is, do these winches work winding in reverse so it spools from the top or will is free spool under load like Crusty says. Thanks
I had to flip mine and wind it backwards so it would fit properly. Never had an issue using it.
@@DJsWorkshop I turned mine over so free spool knob is passanger side, cable spools off the top, brake works, hardly a challange

What was the reason for mounting upside down? I have the exact ranger that you have same bumper same kit everything lines up with same winch, mounted upright. With the exception of the bottom of the fairlead bracket given with kit standing taller than the fairlead spot on bumper only customization was trimming five eights off the bottom with an angle grinder.
Did you have to ground the wire from the plug into the bus bar?
yes you can see where I attached it.

did you have to get a kfi fairlead or used the one that comes with the winch?
I had to buy a seperate one

Did you only use the ignition wire on the pulse bar plug?
I put one wire to the bar connector for keyed power and the main lead went through the shut off switch and then to the positive terminal on the bar.

You are wrong, all winch cables should be wound from underneath.
i didnt say it was the right way to do it, its just the way I did it
how did you get the fairlead to mount the fairlead that came with my 5000 doesent line up

Where did you install the remote plug. Looking on mine, but see a good place to mount it.
@@markm1573 there is a spot on the lower dash but i didn't mount mine there. Look at my video for the front bumper light i installed and you will see the spot. I mounted mine on the front bumper though as i wanted the plug in the front of the rig.i just drilled a hole and mounted it there.
