    In this video I go through the steps I took to figure out the layout of this master bathroom floor which was installed over Ditra Heat uncoupling mat with electric floor heat. I explain how I figured out the layout of these 12x24 inch tiles for the floor to avoid small cuts and to get the best possible balanced look. I also explain how deal with a problem if the tile is not modular which can create a problem of stepping of the tile pattern . All tile installed by Sal DiBlasi, Elite-tile Company, in the Boston North Shore area. Wow such a master craftsman! The geometry issue of non-modular large format rectangles in a herringbone pattern has totally blown my mind. I saw that you resolved it, but I'm not able to visualize how it works -- but at least I know it's a consideration. Really turned out great. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Sal!

      @@SalDiBlasi Hi Sal. What would you recommend i use to level a small area of bathroom floor that has been already hardibacker boarded? Backer board has been cemented and screwed down using MAPEI ansi A118.15. Seems also using the same. My wife picked out a LFT and I have one area in a corner that now needs a little leveling that I don’t feel comfortable setting LFT over it. Thank you. Your videos have helped me tremendously!!!!! Andrew.

    I always thought that if the two short sides don’t add up to the long side you couldn’t do harring bone OR it would be really difficult. Interesting to know. Thanks for the video.

    Hello Sal, always fascinated with your detailed work. Like others mentioned I still have a hard time visualizing the issue with the tile width / length myself and I guess on a small enough floor it wont be noticeable but I am sure you would run into weird alignments at some point on a bigger floor, am I thinking about it right?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 роки тому +1

      Correct. on a much larger floor the stepping could become a problem.

    I have a question Sal. I’m pulling up old floor tile with cement board. The floor under is 3/4” OSB, should I put another 1/2” plywood down then the schluter ditra or can I put the schluter ditra in the existing 3/4” OSB? Thanks

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 роки тому

      Everything you need to know is here pdf.lowes.com/installationguides/4011832035982_install.pdf
      If the joist structure meets deflection requirements, then the Ditra can be installed directly to the OSB, This may also help ua-cam.com/video/YpXEXqbh7ok/v-deo.html

    Great Video Sal! I have a question about getting the tile size difference to line up on your straight line. Instead of cutting thin pieces of tile, couldn’t you just use your spacers?

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  2 роки тому

      If you have the correct thickness spacer, sure.

    Really need to ask the expert. Please help.
    Can I install a new porcelain tile floor over an existing ceramic tile floor?
    The ceramic tile floor is perfectly level and was installed many years ago in a two inch mud job.
    Thanks you Sal!

    • @SalDiBlasi
      @SalDiBlasi  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you can, the new floor will only be as good as the one under it. If it is solid and has no issus, then use a good quality modified thinset mortar, probably an A118.15 to install the tile.
