Clint Eastwood is one of those absolutely irreplaceable actors. I don't know anyone else with the gravitas to believably portray these iconic characters. He'll be sorely missed when he's gone.
" Well when I see a bunch of people in togas stab someone in a park , I shoot the bastard , that's my policy " . " They were doing an enactment from Julius Caesar " .
What I love about movies from the early-mid 70’s is the nostalgia I get, especially from the music. It reminds me of being a 10 year old kid, watching shows like Baretta, Barnaby Jones & Rockford Files with my folks. It also reminds me of all the great movies Clint was in around that time.
"Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" Fun Fact: Albert Popwell appeared in every "Dirty Harry" movie, except The Dead Pool (1988), playing a different character in each movie. Family Affair Fact: When the Scorpio Killer is running away from Callahan (Clint Eastwood) at the end of this movie, he spots a young boy sitting near a pond, and grabs him as a hostage. The kid was played by Andrew Robinson's real-life stepson Stephen Zacks. Gun Enthusiast Fact: The Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum used in this movie is now owned by prop master and weapons specialist Bill Davis, who bought it off of the production company several years before this movie became popular. The revolver is still in use as part of his catalogue. Historical Fact: Serial killer Scorpio (Andrew Robinson) was loosely based on the Zodiac killer, who used to taunt Police and media with notes about his crimes, in one of which he threatened to hijack a school bus full of children. The role of Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) was loosely based on real-life detective David Toschi, who was the chief investigator on the Zodiac case. Legendary Director Fact: As is well-known, Clint Eastwood directed the scene with the suicide jumper (Bill Couch). However, it is often claimed he directed the scene only because producer and director Don Siegel was ill. This is inaccurate. Siegel was indeed ill, and wasn't on the set, but Eastwood had always been scheduled to direct that scene, due to the difficult logistics of getting the actors, director, cameraman and sound man all together on the top of a small ledge. In the shooting schedule, six nights had been set aside for the shooting of the scene. Eastwood told the studio he could shoot it in two nights. In the end, he shot the entire scene in one night.
fun fact: DEBRALEE SCOTT was ANN-MARY DEACON. DEBRALEE was on the match game show with GENE RAYBURN, she was THE SISTER OF mary hartman mary hartman, the 1970's tv series. she also was in episodes of welcome back kotter, and many other guest appearences on different shows.
This movie was a commentary on the crime problem at the time and the police and courts seemingly unable to do much about it. This included all the focus on criminals' rights at the expense of public safety. The public liked Dirty Harry, and Death Wish, etc., but the powers that be, not so much because the movies made them look bad, meaning the leadership.

@@bjgandalf69 Thanks, bro. Hope it gave you a laugh. I had forgotten that actor John Vernon had a role in 'Dirty Harry' and, when I saw him, I couldn't help myself.😄
You have to ask yourself a question: "Do I Feel Lucky?" Well, do ya, punk? The film was made during the infamous Zodiac Killings that shocked the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960's, early 70's.
When you called that kid on the school bus 40. 🤣🤣🤣 Clint has so many good movies. I recommend High Plains Drifter, Hang 'Em High, Play Misty for Me, The Eiger Sanction, The Gauntlet and Heartbreak Ridge. There's so many more.
If you even remotely like Dirty Harry you'll love Justified. It's basically a Dirty Harry meets Pulp Fiction as a TV show set in modern day Kentucky by the writer of Speed & on Band of Brothers. There's a Detroit storyline too
Dirty Harry was the first R rated movie that I ever saw. My dad took me to see it when I was 9 lol. He was a cop, so of course he wanted to see it. Clint is my all-time favorite. I've been watching his movies ever since. He can do it all act, direct and compose music. Too many favorites to list. You really need to check out The Gauntlet, Every Which Way by Loose, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, The Outlaw Jose Wales, In The Line of Fire, A Perfect World, and I could go on and on.

Magnum Force is a pretty damn good sequel, I don't know what the hell The Enforcer was. Sudden Impact is the darkest of the series and directed by Clint and The Dead Pool is held together by Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey was barely in The Dead Pool. Eastwood is the only good thing about that sequel. It was so bad that Frank Miller wrote the Sin City story "That Yellow Bastard" just to get the taste out of his mouth. That script would have made a far better DH sequel.
Hey, J.... there's a short lived TV series which is a parody of these Dirty Harry movies called "Sledge Hammer" that you might want to check out. Absolutely HILARIOUS! It's full of 80s cheezy comedy, but damn it's a good show.

You'll like the sequel to Dirty Harry too, " Magnum Force "...fantastic movie. Oh yeah, you'll like about 15 other Clint movies too, at least. Remember too, Eastwood is one of the greatest directors Hollywood has ever seen and directed not only tons of movies he himself has starred in, but other great films as well. 👊
This movie was so popular because of the rampant crime problems during those times similar to what we are seeing today in dem run cities. I bet Lethal Weapon got the "suicide jumper" part from this movie.
Iconic film, iconic main character and one of the best villains I've seen in a film - despicable and irredeemable but so well acted. Also, the score by Lalo Schrifrin (also did 'Enter the Dragon') is cool AF.
Poor Danny, just catching strays now, lmao. That was a good movie, I always liked the clips I saw, so I guess I'll have to watch the full film now. Clint was smart not letting them get on no plane. You know damn well that man would have taken them to make sure he can actually leave.
I love all Clint Eastwood movies except Play Misty for me. Dirty Harry and Rocky are my two favourite cinematic characters. My favourite quote that he says to a robber in Sudden Impact... "We're not just going to let you walk out of here!". The robber responds, "Who's we sucker?". Harry retorts, "Smith, Wesson...and me" before blowing all the robbers away with his 44 Magnum. There has never been a harder character in my opinion and his one-liners are pure gold. I also saw some other commenters mention "Every which way but loose" and its sequel...i second those suggestions...great fun movies.
Lalo Schifrin did the awesome score for this and a few other Dirty Harry movies. Also famous for creating the famous Mission Impossible music, Kelly's Heroes, The eagle has landed and a certain car classic movie called Bullitt with Steve McQueen Clint did so many great movies from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and the 90s. THE ULTIMATE badass and cool with it. If ya wanna see him in comedy, gotta check out "any which way but loose" and "any which way you can"
Thoroughly enjoyed watching your reactions to this iconic Clint Eastwood film. Eastwood was born in SF & still resides in the SF Bay Area. I grew up in SF. Scorpio was based on the uncaptured serial killer, Zodiac Killer, who haunted SF & the Bay Area residents in the late 60s. Dirty Harry premiered in theatres in 1971. Me & my little buddies were scared shit of the Zodiac Killer. We carried our baseball bats with us on Halloween nights. We ran back home the night after watching Dirty Harry in the movie theatre. The Dirty Harry character propelled Eastwood to movie superstar status. I think you will enjoy reacting to Magnum Force, the 2nd movie in the Dirty Harry franchise. Again, I enjoyed your reactions 👍. Thank you for bringing us Dirty Harry!
I'm from San Francisco and I was born three years after Dirty Harry came out, so this one is a special favorite for me. My family was living in the City during the Zodiac's active period. One big difference between Scorpio and the real Zodiac is that only one of the real Zodiac's kills was in San Francisco itself. The rest were in the surrounding counties, usually in remote areas. I always laugh when Harry's boss refers to 'the black area,' as if San Francisco didn't have multiple neighborhoods with lots of black folk.
1. The late John Vernon (mayor) played Dean Warmer in Animal House. 2. Andrew Robinson was great in this thing. I don't recall which one, but in another "Dirty Harry" movie he plays a cop. 3. A movie that is "Dirty Harry-ish" with Eastwood and Sandra Locke; is "The Gauntlet". It's a good flick 4. I saw this in the theater when I was 10 and it blew me away. 5. I'm somewhat familiar with San Francisco so it makes it even more enjoyable. 6. If/when you watch this again, I dare you NOT to count Harry's shots in the final sequence.
Firearms instructor here. This movie has one of the most infamous "movie gun mistakes" of all time: During the first You Feel Lucky Punk? speech, the cylinder on his revolver turns twice before the hammer drops. Which is also weird because this movie had some otherwise very nice almost pulp detective style where it doesn't shy away from showing the seedier parts of society. I would strongly recommend the sequel film to this.
Now you have seen this one, one has to keep going with the sequels. The gun / revolver I believe based on looks and such, is the Smith & Wesson model 29, with the 8 and 3/8th inch barrel. I think it also helped to increase sales of the model at the time as well. For those who have interest and more of deep dive, there are a few documentaries on the film and why it was made as, to a degree, it was a commentary of the time it was made. Still a GREAT classic.
The late actor Albert Popwell/ the bank robber who had to know outside the bank. Was in the first four Dirty Harry movies. He played a different character in each movie. He passed away in 1999.
Basically the bag guy in this film is like the Easy E song, neighborhood sniper. Oh yeah, and the score to this is by the legendary Lalo Schifrin. It's a jazz funk sort of style to the music, with lots of Latin American musical influence.
The football stadium where Harry's stomping on his leg is Kezar Stadium. When this was filmed, the 49ers had just left there after playing the previous 25 seasons and moved to Candlestick Park.
My favorite Eastwood movie is made from one of my favorite books... The Eiger Sanction. He plays a counter assassin, who's hobby is mountain climbing. It has great humor and great scenery.
