if you dont know now you know - beverly hills cop was written for stallone - not murphy -- murphy was already a star due to snl - 48 hours simply proved he could bring in movie money - note: 48 hours was written for eastwood and richard pryor
Walter Hill liked to use certain actors in multiple movies. James Remar and David Patrick Kelly (Luther) were in this and The Warriors and Brion James was in this and Southern Comfort plus Another 48 Hours
Eddie Murphy's first movie. He was a Saturday Night Live cast member at the time. After this and then "Trading Places" the next year he left SNL to do movies full time.
No one seems to react to this film. Eddie Murphy steals every scene and became a huge star almost overnight.
I have suggested this film to multiple reactors but none have taken up my suggestion.
He really didn’t tho.. nick nolte was the star, Eddie had the push of the studio..
Nah. Nick Nolte was very much integral to the success of this film.
Great to finally see someone react to this movie - before Chris Tucker there was Eddie Murphy 😁
I thought that too at first but found out there have been a few people reacting to this movie but not very many. As far as I can tell, it’s been nine months since someone reacted to it.
42 years later and Eddie Murphy is still funny as hell
Finally. I love this movie. This is Eddie Murphy's first movie.
I remember when Eddie Murphy was on Inside the Actors Studio when discussing the making of 48 hrs, Eddie of course wasn’t trained in dramatic acting so they hired an actor to coach Eddie and that actor was David Proval (Richie Aprile from The Sopranos).
This movie is a classic it blew everyone away when it came out Eddie Murphy is and was a star. He owned this movie and this role. Me and my friends and lots of people went back multiple times and saw this at the theater.
12:22 Peter Jason one of John Carpenter's workhorse regulars.
14:28 Denise Crosby, TNG, Pet Semetary.
17:42 Horner Re-Used this in Commando.
19:35 Bus Boys was the band
Eddie Murphy had up until 1984. See Delirious. (Stand-Up)
20:26 Oliva "Big Booty Trudie" Brown (Miami Vice)
22:21 Yelling chef trope & Reggie gets his flowers.
23:54 Final Round.
25:45 You done end of story!!!
Thanks for that extra info! ESPECIALLY with time-stamps! 👏 👏 👏
Oh man, thanks for the memories..this was my first rated R movie that my older sister took me to see when it came out back in 82, I was 8 and my first introduction to Eddie.
To this day, this is still my fav buddy-cop and Eddie Murphy movie!!!
Love you, big sis.. RIP
The band in the bar was The Busboys and Eddie liked them so much he took them on tour with him on his next stand-up tour. Eddie was cool like that. And by the way, you guys really know your movie stuff. Nice touch.
I do appreciate the fact that you 2 recognize actors by name from other films you have watched as that is rare for reactors to be able to do that...bravo.
Thanks! We used to be professional movie trivia competitors on Collider Video back in the day. Some things you just can't forget.
Classic. Love this movie. Eddie and Nolte are terrific as is James Remar as Ganz. Walter Hill did a great job directing. Love his signature seedy hotel shootouts where all the handguns sound like cannons. 😁 And James Horner's score is great but if you watch Commando you'll hear a very, very similar score by him. The sequel Another 48hrs came out in 1990 and it's okay but not a patch on the original.
🔔 14:43 That Nick Nolte character is what it would've been like if Ron White had been a police detective instead of a comic. 🙂
James Remar is probably my favorite bad guy in Cinema
Early 80s, Eddie career was shot out of a cannon. SNL (1981), 48Hrs (1982), Trading Places (1983), Delirious (his legendary HBO standup concert also in 1983), Beverly Hills Cop (1984).
48Hrs was highly critically acclaimed when it came out. Funny & gritty. It was different. One of the first cop/con partner movies. There was talk of it being nominated for best picture but all the swearing made the academy awards people nervous. lol. Such a great movie.
Love this movie!
Originally it was going to be Clint Eastwood and Richard Pryor teaming up in this movie, but they both turned it down as Pryor thought was script was too violent and Eastwood thought the script was great but hated the humor
Eddie Murphy was nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe, but didn't win.
Midnight Run is another classic 80s buddy movie
An all timer
Nice to finally see someone reacting to this movie. Before Chris Tucker there was Eddie Murphy 😁
You guy's are fresh and new to me. When i saw this movie, i said how can a movie be so old still stand the test of time. Thanks . I could never see this movie enough. ❤ Thanks.
First reaction to this movie I have seen. Such a great movie. The back and forth between Nolte and Murphy is so hilarious. Nice reaction. Gained a new subscriber.
So happy to hear that! Thanks for the sub!
Didn't realize that not many reactors have watched this movie yet.
Thank you for watching this film.
Ahhahahahah, "He's dead now." Dude I think that all the time I see animals in older movies! Actors too, even if they're just no-name extras.😄
One of the best in the genre. Highly recommend another one by the same director, Red Heat. Seriously underrated.
Eddie’s best movie imo
Walter Hill also directed "Southern Comfort" and "The Long Riders", two more eighties movies you might get a kick out of.
Those Musicians were at the start of Eddie Murphy's stand up "Delirious" the band called "The Bus Boys" and they were famous for that song they sang in this 48 hours movie
I love watching movies with y'all, man! We gotta do this again, next week!
Your reaction at 10:13 was exactly what I was thinking, apparently they did that same scene 43 times like you saw it, the guy had enough and left the set.
James Horner did the Commando score and at 18 minutes, the drums is just like the Commando plus, you have an actor from the film.
We haven't seen Comando. It actually lost to this movie on the poll!
Great movie, this is one of those classics I can watch over and over.....To your question yes, San Francisco does have a kind of a subway system, it goes over/under ground. MUNI is a great system and it's Paired with B.A.R.T. system which goes thru-out the Bay Area. I really enjoy your Reactions!
Huge shout out to you guys for reacting to this. Hope y'all react to the sequel Another 48 hours too in the future
Definitely will! We NEED to know what happens next!
San Francisco has 2 underground railway systems. Bart and Muni.
Walter Hill directed this and geez, he had some good movies back in the 80's like "The Warriors" (79), "Southern Comfort" (my personal favorite of his), "The Long Riders", and later with "Trespass" and "Last Man Standing".
Southern Comfort is a great film. 🥰
@@eddhardy1054 Amen. I even like "Extreme Prejudice", "Last Man Standing", "Red Heat" and "The Driver".
Watching Eddie on SNL then transition into films with this then Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop was amazing. Check out Midnight Run if you haven't.
Denise Crosby was also Tasha Yar In Star Trek: TNG and movies like Pet Sematary and Deep Impact.
Great observation about the music sounding like Beltrami.
It was actually very early score by the late James Horner.
We talk about James Horner a lot in this video.
This is Eddie Murphy’s best movie.
12:22 Peter Jason one of John Carpenter's workhorse regulars.
14:28 Denise Crosby, TNG, Pet Semetary.
To think that Eddie Murphy was on 21 when this movie came out.
At 18:23 - Believe it or not, San Francisco is serviced by MULTIPLE subway systems, including the Muni Rail (above & below ground, in-city only) and the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART-San Francisco & Oakland, including crossing the Bay) systems. Here they are entering the Church St. Station of the Muni system.
It’s funny that the two Bus Boys songs I know both involve Cadillacs burning up the road. 😁
I bought 45’s of the Bus Boys after this.
Eddie Murphy was 21 when this was released in 82
20 during filming.
Reggie's car may look similar to Cameron's dad's car but they are not the same. Reggie's car was said to be a Porsche 356 Speedster, but is actually an Intermeccanica 356 A Speedster replica built by CMC (Classic Motor Carriage) while the other car was a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California.
Loved watching you guys discover younger versions of actors you already know. but especially loved you wondering how Eddie Murphy would fit in and reacting to the "new to you" character he plays. Fun watch. Good people.
Luther getting on the bus Billy is driving like "Okay...But I didn't know you had your license!" 😂
LOVE THAT EARLY JAMES HORNER. THIS SCORE IS BASICALLY WHAT HE DID ON COMMANDO.
We still have to watch Commando!!!
@@LatetotheParty when you do, notice the similarity in this score
He did that a lot in his career. Recycle his own work.
@@doughbafett oh o course. a friend told me the thought his work on zorro was his most original, i was like, not unless you've heard the score for WILLOW.
James Horner did the music for Commando (Ahnold flick, fricking awesome action). Some of the music in this one really sounds the same as the music in Commando.
Such a great movie! Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy are the original cop-pair...
I remember loving this movie as a kid in the late 80’s. I watched the edited for television version and realized now that I don’t think I’ve ever seen it not the television version. 😂
This movie is part of a long list, from the 80s and 90s, of Cable/HBO movie series where I saw the sequel first. Normally years before I saw the original.
48hrs
Terminator
Fletch
Caddyshack
Beverly Hills Cop
Rocky
I really enjoyed this movie and saw it, and Another 48 Hours in theatre. The music from here is also used in Commando, which drove me nuts lol.
Walter Hill. Fantastic director
MUSIC BY THE BUSBOYS. PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED ON GHOSTBUSTERS.
This was Eddie Murphy's 1st movie, he was still a cast member of Saturday Night Live at the time. Beverly Hills Cop gets mentioned more because it was Eddie's 1st movie where he was the top star. In the other movies he did before Beverly Hills Cop, he was paired with other stars like Nick Nolte and Dan Aykroyd.
I'm so glad to see Sonny Landham a.k.a Billy from Predator!
His 2 best known characters were named Billy. In this movie, he was Billy Bear.
If you haven't seen them already try these 2 James Remar and David Patrick Kelly in The Warriors and Nick Nolte in Cape Fear.
Eddie Murphy was actually a competent boxer...and a pretty good singer.
If you two have access to any of the mini-series of the 1970's, you should check out "Rich Man, Poor Man" ( I & II ), which in my opinion, was Nick Nolte's break-out role, in which he was pitted against his brutal immigrant father, and a volatile & dangerous arch-enemy(William Smith).
If you want to check out a 90s take on this movie, check out Bulletproof from 1996 with Adam Sandler, Damon Wayons, & James Caan. It's not your typical Sandler movie (none of the goofy BS he was known for in his early movies), it's an action movie with some comedy thrown in similar to 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, etc. And I don't believe anyone on UA-cam has reacted to it.
It's on the list. Vanessa hasn't seen it.
The soundtrack to Commando is pretty much identical to 48 Hrs
I liked James Remar`s role in The Warriors the best.
Ajax
Yeah, Eddie was just a 20 year old kid while filming this. "There's a new Sheriff in town - and his name is Reggie Hammond!" Even in real life, Nick Nolte was as rough as a three-balled Viking; when he worked with Martin Short in THREE FUGITIVES (1989), Martin said he was so battered and bruised from the physical comedy, he could barely stand it.
I recommend The Gauntlet with Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke. Great reaction! I'd forgotten how much i love 48 Hours, i've not watched it for over a year. I'll watch the full film later after a few more beers.
Eddie’s movies are must watches
I just notice that Murphy and Jonathan Banks did two movies together...48 Hrs and Beverly Hills Cop
I grew up loving these movies. I guess the second isn't nearly as popular, but I always liked it. Y'all should watch that one, too.
2 👍👍for your reaction! I am surprised, at how few people have reacted to this movie! This and Coming To America, are my two favorite Eddie Murphy movies!
This movie back in the 80s was far more popular than Beverly Hills cop. 48 hrs was constantly on all the pay channels (HBO, Cinemax etc) not so much with Beverly Hills cop. Yet no one hardly ever does reactions to this one. I think the younger generation is under the impression that Beverly Hills Cop was the more popular of the two. As someone who grew up in the 80s, I can tell you that's not true.
And this was Eddie's first movie.
I'm not putting down Beverly Hills Cop. It's just between the two of them (back then). 48 hrs got more acclaim.
This movie, Beverly Hills Cop, The Golden Child, Trading Places and Harlem Night's (and in the late 80s Coming to America), was what launched Eddie to movie stardom.
He was also a cast member on SNL in the early 80s and had his stand up.
I hope other reaction channels follow suit and start reacting to this movie it's iconic Eddie and his first motion picture.
4:10 and Luther's name was Luther in the Warriors as well...another Walter Hill film
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
The sequel Another 48 Hrs is good too.
If feel like the two bad guys were in The Warriors
The dude that played Luther in this movie also played a Luther in a movie called the warriors
Can’t wait for the Dick Tracy reaction
This move felt dated when it came out.but that adds to the tough cop, gritty action thriller that they were going for.and Eddie Murphy was perfect in this.
This was another good reaction from the both of you for another great classic movie 48Hrs. and please don't forget to react to part two(2) the sequel called Another 48Hrs.
You must watch the Eddie Murphy Supernatural Cult Classic "THE GOLDEN CHILD" It brought to the movie screen British Bombshell Actress CHARLOTTE LEWIS !!!
Hii Late to the party I’m a huge fan by the way I love your movie reactions so much keep up the good work, I can’t wait to see your videos soon.
This a great movie and I don't understand either why people do not react to this movie
25:20 - Now the soundtrack is undeniably Horner's.
Did you know that Eddie Murphy broke his arm in another 48 hrs in the bus roll over
I am going to assume that because you didn't recognize Luther that you haven't seen The Warriors. If not, then might i suggest that you watch The Warriors as soon as possible.
We have not. It was on the poll, but lost to 48 Hrs.
Alright!! No other channel has reacted to this yet 👌🏼
The guy Gaines grabbed was in the warriors
This is the Eddie Murphy I love, after Boomerang it was all mehhhh.
ROXANNE!
this movie was so good
Not only does SF's subway go underground it goes *under the bay* too...
😮
See Nick Nolte in DOWN AND OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS, he's not an asshole....it's also a great movie.
another great movie i saw at the drive-in. beer included
Always love a good classic drive-in movie experience!
Hope y'all do the sequel
Please do Beverly Hills Cop next!
Great gritty movie.
Walther Hill (immense réalisateur) n'avait toujours pas compris qu'un Desert Eagle, même 357M, c'était 9+1 coups! Quand au Striker 12 sud-Af, c'est 6 à 8 coups de 12...
Just compare the soundtrack of THIS movie to Horner's work on "COMMANDO" & "GORKY PARK". There are a LOT of similarities!
We haven't seen either of those movies.
Watch "another 48hrs" it's a continuation of this movie.
With you two constantly interrupting the film trying to impress us with your knowledge, you knew nothing about the number of actors Walter Hill recast from his earlier hit film The Warriors ( 3 cast members ). You also neglected to mention that the actress Eddie Murphy hooks up with at the end was Miss Olivia Brown who went on to fame as a cast member of the series Miami Vice.
You're neglecting the possibility that we've never seen The Warriors or Miami Vice. Which we haven't.
How could we mention information or film trivia about stuff we never knew to begin with? Especially when this whole channel is built on the premise of Films we haven't seen.
So glad to hear you were impressed with our knowledge, though. 😎👍
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 classic
Great reaction 🔥💯 check out another 48hrs 🔥🔥
Who's the dozen donut dunking dude?
