Great video.......you make it look so easy. I have carved/whittled for 50+ years off and on. After watching your vlog you have inspired me to dig out my old knives and take it up again. Since retiring 4 years ago I now have time to do it again. I look forward to your next video and have to get busy watching your other ones.
Brilliant stuff. I am going to attempt this fairly easy Santa then look at my one then look at yours and throw mine into the fire and start again. Ha ha. Great videos
Another CRAZY detailed piece! Excellent Kevin! I think that I’m gonna try some pine at my local Home Depot here in Georgia and see how it works out for me. I may try it on this Santa. Thanks again for the inspiration.
We got around 6 in. of snow since last night . And after watching this my wife is starting to get into the Christmas mood lucky me lol . Great vid take care .
Thanks Glen. Christmas is coming fast. We had a little snow last night but then it changed to rain. The wind is the big thing here today. Gust of 130km. Today, tonight and tomorrow again.
Brilliant!!! Haven't watched in a while Kev due to a hand injury. I'm almost ready/able to pick up the knives again and I'm going to start with this one. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent.
Great videos! I know you have said you get your wood from HD. What are you looking for when you buy it? Do you just go for common studs? I've been using basswood but wanted to try something different. Appreciated your time and your amazing work.
At the store where I buy my wood they have 1” or maybe some pieces are even a little thicker. The width is 12”. 6’and 8’ lengths. I cut it up to whatever size pieces I need. Put it through the planer and laminate it to whatever thickness I need.
Hi Kevin. I searched the Home Depot site for white pine but could only find 1x stock. The wood you are using looks like it is at least 2 inches thick and rough sawn. What should I be searching for to find “your ” wood? And what did you use to cut/modify the broken fish knife with to make the angled tip? I love your work! Thanks
Thanks Laurie, the whit pine I use is anywhere between 1”-1.25” rough lumber. If I need a certain thickness I run it through the planer and laminate it. For the little 4” figures I do I just use the 1.25” thick piece. I cut the knife with a dremel
Thank you so much Kevin. I’ll stop by my HD and see what they have in the way of white pine. I have a very old dremel that may work to cut my knife blade. I was thinking about getting a new dremel. Any suggestions on which dremel to get?
Hi Kevin. I love your videos! My question is, I normally use Basswood, but I have to order it. Doesn't grow around Texas. Never thought of pine. I have some pine, but I think it is yellow pine??? Would that work as well as white? If not, why?
Thank you Brenda. I have never used yellow pine. The only thing I know about yellow pine is what I’ve been told on here. If I remember correctly they said it is hard to carve. My experience with white pine is it’s nice and soft to carve for the most part.
Thank you. All you need is a decent carving knife. Maybe a glove too. There are lots of videos by me and many others on UA-cam. Follow along and get some basic steps to carving. The rest is lots of practice

No problem. Home Depot is the store where I buy my wood. The name of the knife is Green River boning knife. The other fish knife I use I don’t know the name. I use acrylic paint. For a finish I use linseed oil mixed with paint thinner and a little raw umber wood stain
@@KevinCoates98 Oh, thank you. So I tried to search 'White Pine' from Home Deco. But finding Blank was difficult. What I found was the 'Barn Wood White Pine Trim Board (1 in.x4 in.x8 ft.)', Which is thin. How do I search? thank you very much.

Hey Kevin I love the video. I wanted to ask if you've ever carved anything and Cedar and what your opinion is of it. I find it a lot more difficult and some other Woods.
Thanks. I’ve never carved cedar. I asked someone awhile back about cedar. They said it was a little hard. To be honest, I haven’t carved many different woods. Pine, Aspen, balsam fir and basswood a time or two. That’s about it.
Thanks for all of your videos, I've been carving almost 20 years, and love the way you make it look so easy. What kind of camera do you use to film your videos?
I took Kevin’s advise and purchased one from Amazon and cut it down myself. I absolutely love it! By far the best knife investment that I’ve made yet. For the last weeks, it’s the only knife that I’ve used. What’s amazing is it was just $20. I’ve found it very easy to control, which was the biggest surprise. It far exceeds knives at more than twice that price. So glad that I tried it. Thanks again Kevin!
i don't know how i missed this video by you Kevin...but i watched it last night in tears...you inspire us so much and make it look so easy...
Thanks

Thank you. 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks. Keep at it and they will get better. I use the chips from mine for starting the fire
I love your scooping cuts. Also, love your slicing v cuts as well.
Thank you Robert

Thanks Kevin, that’s too bad about the hand. This is a good one to start with again
Another great carving Kevin
Thanks Thomas
I am beginning to think if you left that knife next to a block of wood overnight a Santa will be waiting for you in the morning! Nicely done.
Thanks Daryl, lol
That knife is really sharp to carve pine like it was butter very good
The knife is fairly sharp but the wood is quite soft too
Great video love the bigger style
Thanks Leon
Thanks again for a great video

Great video ,
Thanks Scott
Kevin what are the measurements of the wood u started with??
6”x 2”x 1.5”
Dang Kevin, I can't see a small piece of wood without wondering who is living inside of it and how you would release him. Another nice carving.
Thanks Jerry, I really don’t know what I’m going to carve most time. I just go at it and see what happens

Laurie, I have a dremel 3000. I don’t use it enough to make a call on how good it is. I guess most of them are ok for occasional use

Is that bass wood or plane your using?
It’s pine
Where can I get a knife like that?
You may get one similar to it at Amazon. Look for Green River fish knife
thanks
Sehr schön!👍🏽
Thanks
Love it Kevin! Is that knife homemade?
Thanks. It was a fish fillet knife. The blade got broken so now it’s my main carving knife
@@KevinCoates98 I'm down for a few months. Having surgery on a hand Thursday
Can you make me one of those knives?
It’s just a broken fish fillet knife. Wish I could make them though. Seems that a few people like it

Good to know that it works well for you 👍🏻👍🏻
Great works and it's not the knife doing the work!
Thanks Jim. You’re right
Why don't you talk to us?
No need to.
nfldr and who the fuck are you 😂🤣😂
Kevin talks with his hands bye the best way
Was only asking ffs wind yer neck in
Kevin I’m not big on talking. I like carving much more than talking.
