your going to be the new go to carver ..you know that dont you ? You make me so proud of what your doing for carving Doug .. keep it up .. and Love your videos ..God Bless my friend
Man Doug, I was going through all of my old winter Woodcarving Illustrated magazines looking for the perfect Santa to carve this year. And then you just answered my prayers! I think I will do a few! Thanks Doug! You da man!
Doug man. I’m super grateful for these videos. Thank you. Watching your videos last year got me into this hobby and when I’m actively carving it’s very meditative and calming for me. Much love from Virginia. The world seems to be spiraling into chaos more all the time, and for me, your videos are a much needed few moments of calm and clarity.
i love the camera angle towards your hands with the wood in the middle (like in the first 14mins), it's perfect to understand what you do and captures all angles, i had problems following on some of your videos where the camera is from the side, but now it's spot on!
Doug, I absolutely love these! Did one of yours a few years ago and gave to my mum. She loves it and still has it on display. I’ll do this one this year!
Doug.. thanks for this type of instruction. The rejects, the progressional one and the completed Santa while you're carving helped me alot. Please continue with this format. Greatly appreciate you sharing your talents on "how to". Thanks. Ray
I’m 77 years of age and I’ve been whittling since I was a child. You are at another level in carving. To put it mild you are awesome. Keep up the good work and God bless you. P.s. I love your videos.
Brilliant 👍 Had a go at my first carve yesterday . Learned so much of what " not " to do . Using the knife is a real art that hopefully will come in time . The wife thinks my first attempt is very good ......then again she has got bad eye sight lol Thanks for the upload 👍
"Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire." Thanks for fanning the creative flames! :) I made Santa Heads for my first year of carving in 2018, 2019 Larry's Happy Tree, doing Owls for 2020 Ornaments, this maybe the family 2021 gifts :) thank you for the inspiration hand help to move on a hobby that I always wanted to do more with.
Doug, I’m not sure how I’ve missed your channel in the hundreds of videos I’ve watched. I have to say your videos are the most easy to understand and the most educational I’ve seen. I wasn’t originally attracted to miniatures and was more drawn to realistic carvings where I started in doing crucifix and corpus but you have made a convert of me. This just looks like so much fun and less stress required in getting every detail just perfect as I feel I need to with carving Our Lord. I’ll never stop that work, it means too much to me but, sincerely Thank You for sharing your gifts.
Holy crap. I have never carved anything in my life and how I have a new hobby. I know what my wife is getting me for Christmas, some nice carving knifes. Great video! Thank you
Doug I would like to personally thank you for your videos! They helped a lot and although my carvings are by no means any wall hangers but I’ve learned a great way to pass the time and relax plus learned a great way to sharpen knives. Your videos are calming and inspirational in more ways then you may think sir! So keep up the great work and thank you!
Very nice. I discovered when I began carving that the more I did, the better I got. I’ve watched you since you began demonstrating your work and love the growth in complexity and detail. Entertaining and educational. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Doug, Thanks for sharing this fun and whimsical craving. I was able to finish it rather quickly just in time to give it to my wife for Christmas. She’s going to love it. Stay safe and have a wonderful holiday!
Excellent. What I think makes your videos so educational and easy to follow is after making a cut/change, you quickly show that cut. Your easy style and slow performance makes it also easier to follow. As a result, I have been watching most all of your videos and to learn more about you, I am up to #9 on your Coffee and Carving “Show” podcast. Don’t cut yourself short, you are very much appreciated and you have a gift that you enjoy sharing.
Doug, this is great. After watching your video on the simple Santa, I've made about 20 for Christmas presents this year. They are for the adults, but I wanted something a little different for the kids. This is perfect... Need to make about 6 of these. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
It was wachting you carving of Santa, that got me hooked.problem is here in the uk it's hard to get basswood to use .have made a few of you this now , great instruction easy to fool thank you don't your the man
After carving one of these beauties, I took it to the weekly Suncoast Woodcarvers meeting here in Seminole, Fl. . Great reception to the finished product Doug! Great instructions; be safe.
My man! I have been subscribed for a while with a different google account. I did this 48 minute video in just under 6 hours, so I’d say I’m getting pretty good!! 🤪 the missus and the daughter requested a matching missus Claus for next year!!! Help!!!!! Keep them coming, you’re amazing! I hope this finds you and yours happy and healthy! Merry Christmas!!
Hi Doug, Just finished the Santa carving and it turned out pretty well if I do say so my self. All to the thanks to you for giving us such a great DIY video. Wish I could send ya a picture. Thanks again for all you do for us out here.
You have inspired me to try carving, I am having a blast! I have done your snowman, bear and now your Santa. They actually look a lot better then I have been expecting, you do a great job of explaining and video, thanks!!
Doug, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! Love the style of carving you do. I took up this hobby after stumbling across your videos and I have to say I am hooked!. I just finished my first carving of Santa with a toy bag. Cant wait to begin another one and I look forward to learning and will continue to watch your tutorials and all the other wood working you do.
I love the videos, whichever ones you make. I have started carving and hopefully I will be 1/2 as good as you someday. I have always camped but am trying to convince my sons to go on more of a bushcrafty campout than our usual car camping. Keep it up. Thanks for everything.
I’ve just started my carving journey and this is the first video I’ve followed. You make it really easy to follow along. I’m sure I’ll be following more videos of yours 👍 Thanks
Looking forward to carving one of these guys. I started my charicature carving adventure with one of your little bears a couple of months ago, and now I'm hooked. Thanks for the videos and inspiring me to start a great new hobby.
Finally! 19 days without a DOUG video is way too long! It felt more like 30 days, especially with all the craziness going on here in the US! Thank you for another great woodcarving video. I can't wait to try this one. And thank you for the much needed reprieve from this Election Insanity!
Wow your rejects are like 30 times better than my finished product. You are very good at what you do very very good and I’m sure you know it Pat you’re still going back keep up the good work thank you

Love it. And I really like listening to you talk as you go.
The progression shot in the thumbnail is a great idea!
Its a great idea.. i dunno about others but just seeing those 3 steps alone is enough for me to visualise the other cuts in between

The best teacher on UA-cam!
Grazie, sei un grande maestro, spieghi benissimo. Grazie di cuore
Great video. I used a slightly longer piece of wood and made Santa in a brick chimney. My wife suggested it. It turned out really cool.

Thanks Doug, just did this as my first ever character carving. Went well, good instruction. Thanks 👍🏼
